Do any of the Ed (s) have any information on Angel Gomes and whether Barcelona are actually trying to lure home away?

rsirch01

{Ed001's Note - and Madrid are interested, not sure about the luring part but both sides would be happy to add him to their B team squads.}

1.) 30 Sep 2017 13:27:21
He seems level headed though and the club rate him. You think he'll stay?

{Ed001's Note - so far he has, but it really depends on what the club's plans are for him to be honest. He will want to see a clear path for him to progress.}

2.) 30 Sep 2017 13:48:07
Ed how do you rate gomes as a player?

{Ed001's Note - looks good from what I have seen, but he is still very young and needs firm handling to keep his feet on the ground. Actually good is underselling him, he looks one of the better prospects in world football right now in his age group. If he can avoid injuries and keep working hard on his game, he has a bright future ahead of him.}

Ed(s),
Have there been any new developments regarding Vidal

rsirch01

{Ed004's Note - None}

1.) Ed do you think that the collapse of the Guarin deal has put to bed any chance of Vidal arriving in January?

{Ed004's Note - Unfortunately yes}

2.) Vidal is a great player, but his agents have used the interest in him to prove to Juve how he is regarded! As much as we are close to been the best club in the world, it seems living in Turin, Barcelona, Madrid, Rome etc is better than a rainy Cheshire?

3.) Ed004 if we go on and get Cabaye (as per the rumours), would it mean we won't sign vidal?

{Ed004's Note - No different style of midfielders and Cabaye is psg bound}

Ed(s),

With swift Eddie Woodward explaining that once Herrera would only be sold at his release clause price we were not interested, can we assume that another offer for Herrera in January will not occur? I find it very unlikely that Bilbao will suddenly have a change of heart. Your thoughts? {Ed002's Note - I would not rule out a bid.}

I'm sure our resident Spanish football experts have been keeping an eye on him but hasn't his form dipped this season and he's been on the bench a lot? Maybe Athletic would be more receptive to an offer under the release?

2.) I think the speculation has significantly unsettled him, it could be a genius stroke as we may be able to get him for a more reasonable fee.

3.) He pulled a hamstring a few weeks back which has hindered his playing time. I still think he would be a solid improvement in our midfield.

4.) We will probably bid around 15m which would at least ensure another good laugh.

5.) He made his comeback last nite.
Herrera had two efforts on goal himself from outside the box, with one on target. He also made more passes than any other Bilbao player with 41 in total, 10 of which came in the attacking third, including one key pass.

However he attempted 21 passes in the final third of the pitch, his final ball often letting him down and a passing accuracy of less than 50 per cent when it mattered - overall his pass completion rate was 73 per cent.

Defensively the United target was far more impressive. Herrera completed six tackles from seven attempts, four in his own half, the joint highest of any player on the pitch.

He also recovered the ball back 10 times for his side, and made two interceptions. What was clear from his performance is his skills are much better suited in a defensive role, even though Bilbao seem determined to play him in an attacking midfield position as they have other more defensively minded players in their team.

6.) I think Athletic want him to play more behind the striker and this is causing problems as Oxred has said. He would be playing deeper for us with penetrating runs forward so he would suit our style of play.

7.) Is he similar to a Ramsey type player, who is better in your opinion guys?

Eds,

Sorry, should have included this with my last question. Is United actually interested in FC Red Bull Salzburg defender Martin Hinteregger? If so, do you rate him? {Ed002's Note - I understand the player has been watched - I don't know of any specific interest beyond that.}

Eds,

Will United bid for Southampton LB Luke Shaw? Or is another Leighton Baines saga on the way in January? {Ed002's Note - Chelsea has been trying for two years to persuade Southampton to sell Shaw to them, with interest also being shown by Spurs. Manchester United would not likely want to pay the sort of fee that will be asked and I suspect will not look for a deal.}

rsirch01

1.) If Chelsea's negotiators have failed then I doubt tweedle dumb and tweedle dumber on our team will convince them.

Ed(s),
With all the Vidal talk going on, has United maintained contact or interest in carvalho? Thanks for any input, you all do a great job.

rsirch01

{Ed002's Note - There is nothing right now.}

Eds, with all the rumors going around about cbs and midfielders being potentially signed, can you shed any light on who we are realistically considering?

rsirch01

{Ed002's Note - Where I know of interest I have generally said.}

Ed(s),

Has there been any progress in signing Rooney to a new contract? Is it more likely he will stay or transfer? {Ed002's Note - I would not worry about the contract situation.}

I believe it is pretty clear that Benatia is Bayern bound. Ed(s) are there any other CB(s) that are now being considered by United? Thanks!

rsirch01

{Ed002's Note - RTP.}

Couldn't agree more. That seems like a great deal of money for an almost 30 year old cb.

If we were to meet the "buy out" clause, and the player is keen for a move (some speculation has said as much), would Athletic Bilbao really have a leg to stand on in stopping the deal? {Ed002's Note - It really doesn't work like that.}

I hope just the opposite. Maybe our boys seeing other teams questioning our abilities will light a fire in them. maybe we'll play with a chip on our shoulder and a little extra motivation
