I'm interested in this talk of potentially ousting LvG on the basis that there might be some good managers available this summer. Those who think we should how do you propose we sell the club to these good managers?

How do you expect us to be able to sell the job to someone if we have just fired a manager who has done a good job and achieved all his targets?

What do we say? "we want you in charge as we feel you could do an excellent job and achieve all we ask of you, oh but even if you do we will sack you if a the new flavour of the month becomes available".

Don't think that will go down well. Also we are forgetting the fact that just because a manager has fitted well at one club and has had success that doesn't mean he will have that same success at our club. When names like Klopp and Simeone get banded about despite the fact they have only had success at clubs they have a close affinity with seems lost on many. Pep has done very well at only two clubs and he became manager at both those clubs while they were already thee top club in their countries and arguable in Europe. So who is to say how he would cope with rebuilding a huge club(I'm not saying I don't think he could do it, just that he has no proven track record so would still be some what of a gamble).

LvG needs to stay in charge at least for another season and probably until the end of his contract, he needs to be allowed to rebuild the club and the team so that we can pick the next manager and not make a rush decision. The next appointment will be key. And we need to make sure the next guy is the right one but most importantly at the right time.

Totally agree shappy. Simione had taken athletico from champions to a distant 3rd. Klopp has done worse. blanc is struggling to win their league with a budget miles above lyon. Anchelotti has not won spanish league with biggest budget and great players so why some think they are great long term solutions for our club is odd. Only klopp had decent longevity at his club from that group and his last success was over 3 years ago. Pep had done worse than his predecessor despite spending millions. So I'm not sure any of those are better options than lvg at this time. But I suppose he won't be here for too many years but none of the above stay in 1 place for too long either so what is long term nowadays for a club manager?

While I tend to agree shap,I don't think it would be a hard sell at all. We are Manchester United, it sells itself in a way, regardless of previous, if u trust your ability u would take it.

If the board had a longer term manager in mind when appointing LVG when he left and he becomes available this summer it's tricky.

Imo we should stick with Louis and let him build us back up again. When the time comes to change again hopefully there will be a few good coaches going.

Totally agree Shappy.
We got rid of Moyes rightly so because we were doing so badly and he had lost the dressing room.
But I don't think we will start firing managers willy nilly just because the latest flavour of the month becomes available, well I certainly hope not.
Give Van Gaal his 3 years, I'm sure he will leave us in a good position with a good young squad and hopefully as champions.
Then it will be a great job to take over and I think we will have all the top managers interested.

Real madrid have been doing that to managers for years yet they have no problem enticing top managers. Although I'm not saying I favour this routine stability is what is needed on and off the pitch

I appreciate many people want LVG to be given time to sort everything out and if the evidence of the past month is anything to go buy I am not as traumatised by that thought as I once was.

However - we had a lot longer to prepare for the SAF successor and that was a disaster. What makes any of you think that the next handover will be any better (handovers in any walk of life are difficult)? Surely if the long term target is available this summer we need to act.

LVG was dicing with death a month ago, he doesn't love the club like SAF does. So what makes you think he is too bothered about leaving something plyable for his successor? He will do what is best for him, so we should so what is best for the club.

Any manager coming in will need to apply their own changes as it won't be LVG's dopple ganger 30 years younger that we appoint. If we wait we could be left regretting it, but on the flip side we can go after the right man even if they move this summer to a competitor, we have the cash and I'm not too concerned as most managers are fickle as many of you have said. Just like the players we would be stupid to think any manager would manage us for longer than 5 years. Much of a muchness now, I'm happy to watch the fireworks of this summer and enjoy it.

I agree witb the basis of what you say Shappy, its wrong to just sake a manager because you don't wanna lose out on another. But with LVG's previous track record of falling out with people which in turn has affected the duration of his management of some clubs I feel like it is only a matter of time before a clash like that occurs again.

Beast, as it will be LvG's last job in football I suspect he'll want it to go well. It is what people will remember him by.

If your looking for LvG's dopple ganger just 30 years younger then look no further than Pep, not only is he a pupil of LvG's ideas and philosophy but he has even followed his career path by managing at the same clubs. Pep could be a good option to follow LvG, but not this summer, as i've already said he does better tweaking an already largely successful team rather than rebuilding one. LvG needs another year or two before the team would be in an ideal position for Pep. Fortunately Pep won't be leaving Bayern for at least another year or two, and even if he did. I could see him having another subatical until the job he wanted became available.

100%agree shappy I expect pep to take over within the next 2-3 years he's said in the past he would manage us.

Love how some people are not bothered about whether van Gaal is manager next season or not , we're obviously just as fickle Madrid fans now .

16 Apr 2015 22:03:46
Personally think Lvg may stay longer than we expect if all goes well. As Shappy says this is his last job so why be in a rush to finish if you are enjoying.it and all going well.
I also think he will build a team, club and try to leave that dirty word philosophy for the next incumbent. he has, done it before.

11.) 16 Apr 2015
16 Apr 2015 22:35:34
I agree Brad , if things are going well wouldn't be a bit surprised to see Van Gaal still manager in four or five years

12.) 16 Apr 2015
16 Apr 2015 22:37:12
I don't give a crap what managers are being hawked around this summer, unless the team stops progressing under van Gaal, or his position becomes untenable for some other reason, he should keep his job until he decides to leave.

It's one thing sacking a manager who isn't performing, but to talk about sacking a manger who has started to make important progress because a younger manger might do a slightly better job in the long term is dumb dumb dumb

13.) 16 Apr 2015
16 Apr 2015 23:12:35
Let's just keep in mind that yes LVG has done a good job lately but there have been behind the scenes disharmony amongst the board the members all season apparently. As far as selling the club goes just look at Real Madrid and how they operate.

14.) 17 Apr 2015
16 Apr 2015 23:25:58
What behind the scenes disharmony ?

With the way modern media is , if there was any major disharmony at board level it would have been all over the papers

15.) 17 Apr 2015
17 Apr 2015 04:32:59
what a load of rubbish shappy.
we would have no trouble selling the club to any manager .
united is one of the biggest jobs out there and that won't change if we sack lvg

16.) 17 Apr 2015
17 Apr 2015 07:18:33
Ed002 has told us many times about it Bilko or is he just talking BS?

1,000,000,000,000 per cent agree JRed.

17.) 17 Apr 2015
17 Apr 2015 08:56:41
I agree with Shappy's OP but then I said that months ago when the wolf pack lead by Beast and co would pounce and try everything to denounce it even becoming personal to make their point.

We need to put a smooth transition into place , identify LVG's successor now, work towards putting the building blocks in place to make it a seamless change, totally the opposite of what we did at the end of SAF's reign.

18.) 17 Apr 2015
17 Apr 2015 09:13:31
jred + JMB,

If you both think we will have no trouble selling the club to any manager then surely there is no reason to get rid of the manager now to bring in the next big thing, they will still be willing to come to us when LVG leaves in 2-3-4 years time.

Ed002 said he had upset one member of the board, that is not 'disharmony amongst the board members all season', feels a little like you are looking for negatives where you can now you can't find any on the pitch, but that surely wouldn't be the case would it?

19.) 17 Apr 2015
17 Apr 2015 09:49:36
LVG must stay! 100% sure of that.
Having said that, changing him won't be problematic. Look at chelsea for example!

20.) 17 Apr 2015
17 Apr 2015 09:54:32
Why would United sack van Gaal at this moment in time? Why would fans want that? The team is playing well and look how together they are.
Van Gaal may not "love" United like Fergie but he loves the game and his reputation within it. United will be his last club and he wants to win trophies.
Changing managers again so soon would be a bad thing. The team is really starting to gel and enjoy playing the game.
I love Klopp. To think of him at another club is a bit gutting but he is still relatively young. So is Pep. United will always be a challenge for the best managers. Let's treat them right and get the best out of them when they come here.

21.) 17 Apr 2015
17 Apr 2015 10:46:51
You have to laugh.

Didn't the likes of Beast and Jmb say they would give LvG credit and support if he got the right results and improve performance? So he does that and they still want him sacked?

None of those managers would guarantee success, most of them have never managed in the EPL for a start.

As I said previously, the grass is always greener. For some at least.

22.) 17 Apr 2015
17 Apr 2015 13:11:13
HB did I say I want him sacked? I said the board should consider it should a more suitable candidate come along.

23.) 17 Apr 2015
17 Apr 2015 14:00:30
But there's no guarantee that anyone would turn out to be a more suitable candidate? There are no guarantees and things are currently going well so why risk it.
