Saw a rumour today that we are in for Darmian, a young RB from Torino. Never heard if him personally but the manager/director (not sure who) said he will be leaving to an unnamed club

Eds, if LvG does sign could you see us going for jetro williams over shaw? I think there was some interest a while back and he would probably be better value at a lower transfer fee than shaw will command

Thanks for all your work

ruan

{Ed004's Note - No Willems has been very poor this season and was awful at last wc. Also I think he's injured?}

Few reports we had a €40 million bid turned down for Khedira. {Ed044's Note - I am told there was a bid but the number you have is wrong. Khedira had already made his position clear that he wanted to stay in Madrid whilst they were looking to sell him to another club, who were not interested at the price quoted.}

ruan

1.) Price was not wrong we offered 40 mil euros that got turnes down just like every bid we made in transfer window

2.) No bid was made for him just rumours

3.) @katef,
bid was made. Khedira has spoken about it today.

4.) He's not worth 40 mill anyway.

5.) Ed

What was the bid we submitted? The amount will be interesting fuel to the limited funds topic possibly.

Thanks {Ed044's Note - You would need to ask Ed02 to confirm the figure and I doubt he will answer.}

Read some interesting articles recently on our transfer targets and the impacts on our formation. I don't think we should be going after Gundogan at all. He is a box-to-box midfielder and since his injury he has lost a lot of his former mobility and can no longer make driving runs drop deep. Even at his best he is a different player to carrick and cannot be considered a replacement. We've been pretty poor without carrick so we need a back up/starting CM who can play the controlling role. Seen quite a few people say they think we played 3-5-2 a the start of the season because Carra was injured and we didn't have anyone who could play in that role. Saw the same thing with the Dutch side, when Strootman got injured LVG changed the formation to 3-5-2. We are pretty well stocked in attacking midfielders now, even is Adnan goes on loan. CBs both Jones and Smalling are starting to show consistency and promise for the future. We need another established CB but I want to see them both get a lot of game time next year, especially Jones. One of the big statistics groups evaluated all the best young CBs in europe and Jones actually came top! Goalie, valdes is a great shot stopper but pretty poor in the air which could be an issue (he's like a young de gea!) so if david goes we will definitely need a young replacement who can push for no.1. Strikers, I think Robin is past it now and we could really do with freeing up some wages by selling him and cheech. Wilson should go out on loan so we need maybe 2 more strikers. Benteke?
Thoughts overall?

Statistics can be bent to show anything given enough time. Varane and Laporte are head and shoulders above Jones.

Jones has poor positional sense, is rash/ lacks composure. Yes he is committed, fast and powerful, but he is a liability and made from glass. He has missed more games than he has played for us since he signed. The boy needs to go out on loan to get some games under his belt to try and rediscover the potential he showed at Blackburn.

2.) 26 May 2015 14:45:20
Phil Jones is a brave but erratic defender, no matter what some statistical study says. As far as CM goes, I think we need two, one deep lying and one box to box. The striker question is tricky. It depends what LVG wants to do with Rooney, whether RVP will go, and if Wilson will stay or go on loan.

3.) 26 May 2015 16:58:28
I think we are looking at two midfielders. Schweinsteiger or maybe even Schneiderlin for the number 6 role and then a box to box midfielder to take the place of Fellaini. Would love this to be Vidal but that is just wishful thinking on my part. Gundogan would be bought in to be a more advanced midfielder.

{Ed004's Note - I disagree, I think Gundogan is more of a box to box midfielder tbh. A midfield of Schweinsteiger, Herrera and Gundogan would be very strong. Then wingers of Di Maria and Depay with a top striker}

Can't help but think the fact that the only deadline day deal we've gone for is for a striker is because we will almost certainly be going for Strootman in January

Kags back to Dortmund for 8mil. Sad that it never worked out but definitely the right move for him, he can't play anywhere except at 10 and that doesn't work for us

ruan

1.) Terrible business from our point of view - especially when we're paying £14m for Blind. At £8m Kagawa is far and away the best bit of business done by any club this window.

With Mata picking up a hamstring injury yesterday we could actually use Kagawa right now too.

2.) R7, good chance to see Rooney return to a deeper position and I have no doubt that if he does we will perform better.

3.) SAF night and then rarely played him. However, when did did play he never took his chance. Great potential but just didn't deliver on the pitch

Delighted with the di maria deal but personally don't think it signals we can still attract the top talent. I reckon we signed him because we were the only side with the cash available at the time (we know psg were trying to sell to raise funds) and because good old Ronnie put in a good word for us. Real can simply make a comment to the press about a player and within a week that player is begging to leave for madrid, we are still at the stage of having to really work for these deals because of no UCL. Hopefully I am very wrong and vidal is still possible. Either way this is a much better window than last summer and woodward has clearly improved his negotiating skills

ruan

1.) Love it!
Negotiating skillls consisting of opening up a cheque book and just asking how much.

Hi Eds

Was just wondering if you could explain why we are paying nanis wages on the loan? Was this just a sweetener? Thanks guys

ruan

{Ed002's Note - That was what was agreed. It is not uncommon.}

1.) I'm sure city paid several players wages for about 3 seasons to get them out of the squad. I bet they think Its easier to pay somebody to take them and give you room for a much better player in the squad sometimes.

2.) If nani stayed we would have still payed his wages and he would have either sat on the bench or not played or come on and do nothing. Atleast on loan if he shows any kind of form we may be able to sell him at a higher price.

Hazard went from being the best player in france for two years to the worst player at chelsea in one summer. It takes some players time to adapt. Add in the fact that LVG himself needs to adapt to the english game and has taken time to nail down a formation then it is no surprise that some players have struggled. Mata looked like he had no place in the squad until we went to 4141 and put him on the right. A consistent formation and a lack of injuries and di maria will show why we signed him.

I do agree with Ed that he was signed to flex our muscles and keep the fans happy but he is not the only player we could have signed to do that.

Sure it isn't we were looking at him as an alternative to Shaw?
