Looks like another season of Maguire. Or at least until January. Damn injuries ?

Anyone else getting a little concerned with the gaping hole in midfield and whether or not it'll be filled?

Exciting next couple of days. The ups and downs of being a United fan.

We all knew the first team was fairly good and just needed a few additions, but the squad depth was patchy at best.

The first two positions that should have been looked at by ETH at the start of the window was two midfielders and a centre forward.
I can't believe the mess we are in. We are even looking at Tottenham cast off's now, it really is embarrassing.

Perhaps Mainoo had been identified. Perhaps ETH rates him and was intending to use him.

Our issues last year were the tendency for DDG to drop a clanger, and in inability to score goals. Does Onana fix the GK issue, I am not sure. And we have signed young promising CF when we probably needed a wise old owl.

It's a long season, Hojlund will play, looking forward to seeing what he is made of, Mainoo will get fit and hopefully be integrated.

There does seem. to be a lot of wet knickers on here right now.

The reactions on here are hilarious, can’t believe the mess we are in, you’d think we are bottom of the league and favourites to go down.

I think ETH was definitely going to use Mainoo this season, that was clear in pre season, he’s ready to step up right now, so I can see why we are a little unsure about buying someone who will stop his path to the first team.

Can’t wait to see Hojlund in this team, we are creating loads of chances, someone to put them away will be fantastic.

I firmly believe that by adding Mainoo and Dan Gore to the squad is a massive plus. Yes, they lack experience but make up with ability and tenacity. I think this will be their break through year. Hoijlund’s pace up front will be crucial. I would take that over a wily older striker. I would love us to sign Gravenberch. He might not be the holding midfielder we crave (that could be Mainoo) but his quality on the ball and range of passing are exceptional.

Fairly good first 11? What are you measuring that against, scraping in to top 4 mid table or winning EPL. We got 0 good at moment, just struggled past wolves and forest both due to dodgy decisions and got beat at Spurs got front 3 who not scored a goal add Sancho to that too…. Getting overrun in midfield in all 3 games, two of back 4 out injured AWB who clearly can’t play Ten way and we bought a striker who injured and not prolific in his early years and is only striker we got, for 60 games approx…. to me that’s a huge worry, it’s a team game sure but we desperately need goals.

I think the concerns regarding midfield and defence is heightened by us not being able to score as fluently as we should be. Like the United of old.

City can pop anyone in defence and they are usually fine, because their attack never fails to outdo their opponent. Their defence is rarely threatened as attack is the best form of defence.

When we are not putting away our chances, the need to solidify the defence and defensive midfield becomes far more apparent.

Probably not bottom because TBF have had 3 very favourable games and if you were honest with yourself extremely lucky to have got 6 points from them too, I don’t understand how as a serious supporter your not concerned about the lack of goal scorers we have in this team, where are the goals coming from? because last time I looked goals win games nothing else!

Our fanbase is so divided. Some only see there is fire and everything is wrong, transfers all wrong, manager no good, most of the palyers rubbish etc etc and some see a lot more positives and accept there is no such a thing as perfect or ideal. Long season ahead and we have good team. If hoiland settles in and we get out this injury mess, we have good team of experienced guys, creative players and young players.

It will probably be one of the lowest winning total points in many years and many teams will take points off each other and plenty of shock results and twists and turns imo.

I find the whole Ambrabat thing so puzzling since he is there and ready. A few weeks ago i posted we were looking at someone else and trying to sign him and thought it was kimmich but ed002 says nothing happening there.

The midfield signing will be a surprise name, it all makes sense why we have not moved forward with ambrabat imo.

The hoiberg stuff i am not convinced its got any legs. He played/ started tonight and doubt he would have played if we were negotiating a deal.

Giggs your red tinted glasses are even more darker then I thought, if you read any my post i said our front 3 plus Sancho makes 4 in case you can’t count that high, have not scored a goal between them that’s the worry and there are not enough goals in the team…. You seem to read something then turn it around to your own words, you may need some assistance with thought process.

Also I’m not sure it will be a low points total that wins league this season, not many teams going to take points of City, they not started great and on 9 points and we not out of August yet, that might be wishful thinking.

Right lads let’s not descend into a slanging match, let’s wait till Friday and then have a chat about the state of our squad. I personally ain’t happy with the midfield depth and am worried if the injuries continue what sort of team we can field but will reserve judgement until Friday. I’m not expecting miracles though lol.

Problem is Tim what’s left in the market are no better then what we got, I think you need to have your squad in place by now and if an unexpected comes up you pounce, we now need 4 unexpected ones to pop up… starting the season with such a poor midfield and 1 unproven and injured striker is abysmal planning! Especially when exactly same problem last year, could be worse because can Rashford hit 30 again! Now we going to lose Onana in the middle of season too! Stubbornness poor planning whatever it is, it’s very poor indeed for such a huge club, if we can get anywhere near last season finishing 3rd and couple of finals that would be great with what we have but surely that’s treading water, you need to get better, buy better quality and address last seasons concerns, I don’t see how on earth anything been addressed and our best players are now another year older!

I agree with you Trafford. Our planning is poor if not non existent and it’s the same every summer. The constant variable is the owners and Arnold/ murtough. We just seem to be happy to do enough to maintain a similar level rather than trying to kick on and challenge city. I just don't see the point in us having a pop at each other, that’s what I meant with my previous post.

AJ, my missus doesn't like football. But she couldn't believe how a single player could change the way that game went. She asked if Maguire was doing it on purpose. I had to explain to her that he doesn't have the talent to do that on purpose. He literally is a giant Mr Bean.
