I know fans will say it's a knee jerk reaction in getting rid of Van Gaal but juan matas beard put up a very good post.
Last season when it became obvious that we couldn't get champions league football for this season, Woodward pulled the rug from under Moyes time as manager. Moyes spent just over £68m (?) & yet for Van Gaal the club has spent considerably more in less time.
If we don't get at least 4th spot then how can we justify in keeping this manager?
Woodward must be thinking "we spent x amount of pounds on Mata, Falcao, yet these players don't even get off the bench"
I know players have to earn their right to play in the 1st team but when you have a recognised right back in Rafael on the bench but he persists in playing Valencia there, or a play maker in Mata or a poacher as in Falcao but they don't get used then things for me don't add up.
How different our mind set is now as under Ferguson in that situation last night, being down to 10 men, 2-1 down & with only 5 minutes left, we still would've fancied us to get something from the game & more often than not, done so.
If hoofing the ball in the air to Fellaini is part of his "philosophy" then god help us (this is not Fellaini's fault though)
I thought the football under Sexton during the 1980-81 season was the worst but this is pretty close to rivalling it.
No complaints about any of the referees big decisions last night either because if we have to resort to blatant cheating then how low have we got, especially after Evans spitting incident.
Please Van Gaal, even if you don't like Mata Falcao or Rafael, be big enough to give them some games till the end of the season & have players playing in their natural positions. You never know, these players might just save your bacon at United

Being a football manager must be one hell of a job! Imagine what those guys go through when they unfortunately or deservedly lost a football match. There are different options expressed or verdicts passed by pundits, experts and fans. It must be a very difficult experience for football managers.
There were times fans on this site complained of LVG persistence use of RVP and Falcao even when they were not cutting it. Now that he's cdropped Falcao for couple of matches, we are quick to point this out again. I guess none of us will like to be in those managers situations.

Glad to have got a decent back up keeper & I think this is how United have to view their squad when the overhaul is completed, which will take another summer transfer window to get really close. I just hope we do finalise the Falcao deal as he is a class act & I feel that next season he will be back to his former self before his injury & it would be awful to see him move on elsewhere & this happens. Hopefully if we can get back into the champions league next season then players of his calibre will be needed if we progressed to the knock out stages. I don't see Wilson as the answer just yet but hopefully he can also progress & develop as a player as their is potential there.

1.) Mr Falcao is a very interesting subject. His wage demands are out of this world and his fee is very high. Very good player on his day but unless he drops the mercenary wage demands and a fair price can be agreed, I for one cannot see justification in the expensive expenditure considering his average season thus far.

2.) Jmb. So if we let falcao go, who do you want in his place? Every striker is going to command big money and big wages.
Falcao will be amazing in a 433 formation. At the moment, lvg is playing defensive formation and non of our strikers are shining.

3.) Nomidfield, the Falcao pre injury would be great, he's not yet shown enough to justify the amount of money being discussed

I for one hope the Falcao stories are just rumours.
He is an awesome striker & he's only had 5 games since he joined in the transfer window & scored 1 & set up 2 other goals.
The bloke is still on the comeback from a serious knee injury & this season for United has been stop start due to no European football in mid week & the never ending (so it seems) international breaks.
I hope that once fit LVG will play him, Rooney & RVP (or Wilson) as defensively we have problems & so we may as well try & out score our opponents though I don't think my nerves are strong enough. (sweat)

Just wanted to add to the comments regarding whether you're a real supporter if you're from the local area or not. I myself was born in Salisbury & now live in Bristol but have followed United since 1976. I started following United as soon as Bobby Stokes scored for Southampton in the '76 cup final because my Dad (also not from Manchester) was a United fan (since 1955) & I wanted United to equalise for my Dad.
Since then I've been all over (like so many fans) watching United but my point is this. Once walking home from school I had a Bristol Rovers fan grab hold of my United scarf & said "support your local team, not this rubbish!" How many times in the years since then have I seen people walking around Bristol on a Saturday afternoon (after 3pm) wearing their local teams shirt & not being at the game!
If you were to support your local team how does that work if like I did, you moved a lot of times in your younger years? You could be feverently following Grimsby for 2 years & then find yourself a die hard Southend fan. Where is the loyalty in that? The big problem is that people have always been jealous of United & our fans.
The main thing is supporting your team through thick & thin. I was at the game Saturday & for the 1st time in years I thought the vocal support for United was amazing. Infact this season is already reminding me of what attracted me to following United during Docherty's reign. Attractive attacking football (1st half) but also the uncertainty of how the game would pan out. It doesn't matter if you're from the area as not just as long as you can get to some games & get to know your clubs history. Being a club of such global appeal will always get supporters from all over following United. I have friends who follow Liverpool & Chelsea but they don't get half the stick we United fans get who aren't from Manchester. Just keep following the Reds no matter where you're from

Well, United were damned if they did & damned if they didn't do business in the transfer window & I'm annoyed at all the grief in the media regarding United's spending this summer.
We've all known for years that the club has had to spend big money & the decline had been coming but all this talk about "United cutting their ties to the past" etc. are total nonsense.

Yes United have been notorious over the years of producing home grown talent (look at the youth sides in the 50's or the obvious "Class of 92" but there hasn't really been a great deal of truly fantastic players coming through on a regular basis. Ok you could add Welbeck & Cleverley to players that made the 1st team but they hardly set the world on fire with their performances in a United shirt.

I guess you can see the potential in someone like Wilson (who I think will be a fantastic prospect) but all to often players have come up short when asked to play for the 1st team. Along with last seasons almost punch drunk performances, this highlighted further the need to get a manager in with the credentials to turn our fortunes around. Van Gaal is our first non British manager & has recognised that the squad is in need of a major overhaul with world class players with experience & has had to buy.
I can't believe people are saying we've put the roof on before laying the foundations.

What nonsense. LVG had a list of targets so what's he to say? "No I won't buy Di Maria till I have bought a centre half"? You have to act when the player you want becomes available & not in some chronological order. If we had done that then we would've missed out on targets & then get criticised for not acting in the market again.

Yes we need a top centre half & top holding mid fielder but we all know that realistically it could take 3 transfer windows to get the team that Van Gaal can call his own.
I applaud him for having the courage to shift players on & am absolutely delighted with who we have bought.

The media were saying that United needed to spend big bucks & now they have you can sense the jealousy coming out again as United are showing the right signs in bouncing back. Nobody would bat an eye lid if this had been Real Madrid & the press would be saying how fantastic it will be to have all of these Galacticos in their team.

I guess even when we're not winning, we're still getting on everyones nerves. Oh to be an ABU. it must make your lives so bitter!

spiritof76

1.) Even Fergie used to say when a special player becomes available, you have to push the boat out there and get them. Sour grapes and envy come to mind but who cares. I am going to enjoy watching our Galacticos :) The alternative of welbeck and Cleverly is a depressing thought, so it is all nonsense

2.) It's just knife-twisting from biased anti-United pundits and hacks.
The majority of them, and a lot of our fans myself included, genuinely didn't think we had spending power anymore so by claiming our only way back to the top was by spending massively, they felt they were rubbing salt into our wounds.

Now we have spent massivley, they're running scared and looking for a different stick to beat us with.

Good e-mal Red man.
It was never going to be a straight forward ride & I have to agree that he is at least showing the guts to move the club forward by moving players on that need to go. Look at the difference to last season with Moyes saying "we're striving to be like City" or "Liverpool are favourites" compared to LVG saying "first we need to get into the champions league, then we need to win the league & then win the champions league". Okay he's not saying we will definitely do this, but at least it's positive. United will be a totally different team after the international break & with players hopefully back from injury we will see more of the side he really wants to put out & the results will come. Have faith

Plymouth Red you're everything that's so annoying about Liverpool fans. You're delusional at the best of times.
It's an argument that can never be resolved between rival fans about who is better than who from each team. But let's be honest you threw the title away as "Big Game Stevie G" blew it for you along with your defensive frailties. I saw literally loads of Liverpool flags flying from peoples houses after you beat Spurs 4-0 in March celebrating your title win!! That's arrogant & deluded & we may have had our worst seaon in years but i'd go through that time & time again just to see your lot BOTTLE IT each season.
