With Fellaini being given number 31 does this suggest that he was no way near the marquee signings that Moyes wanted. It seems Woodward has failed to deliver a suitable number 7 or number 9.

Having these too shirts vacant is beyond an embarrassment as we cannot attract players worthy enough to wear two of our most famous shirts.

Ale

1.) Bit of a silly thing to say, I know squad numbers mean a lot to some people but that's because in the past the team played as number 1 to 11.

These days star players for teams are wearing all sorts of numbers. Are you suggesting van persie isn't good enough to wear either of those numbers? He just chose to wear 20 because he said he wanted to earn it.

Sky are quoting Moyes confirming that a second bid for Fabregas has been made.

To me this suggests that they are willing to sell as if it was a straight 'no' from them, why would we bother bidding again?

Also, it appears they have changed their stance from 'no way' to 'will make a decision once a new coach as been appointed'

Getting more confident that this is going to happen now.

1.) I think that things are coming together. Tito's retirement, Neymar's arrival and the need to raise funds. Fabregas is no doubt an asset to Barca, but he is expendable given that they need money. Also on our side is the fact that Arsenal aren't moving for him but instead going for Suarez.

2.) After selling thiAgo what do barce need more, cash or fabergas.
I think there midfield starts to look a bit light

3.) Jred, to be fair Barcelona have decent youth midfielders and I would imagine if they sold Cesc they would buy Herrera who they have been tracking for a while and use the extra cash for a much needed CB. Not sure what's going on, but I would doubt MU would be bidding unless Cesc was available.

So hands up - who thinks we will see Fabregas sign this week?

I think we have a good chance of getting him, purely because United have been open about making an offer for him. Historically they have always been coy over who they are bidding on until they have something to report.

If he doesn't arrive this week I hope someone does. With just over a month to go this window is getting to be frustrating. Not saying Moyes should sign someone just for the sake of it, but he needs to show his hand sooner rather than later. The longer this goes on, the more it looks like we are getting left behind.

Ale

1.) I really don't see Fabregas signing but I'd love to be proved wrong.

2.) Fabregas will not be leaving Barca this year. Confirmed on Talksport this morning

3.) Confirmed on talksport, must be true then.

In the last hour a number of media outlets are now saying that Woodward's return home is to 'close the Fabregas deal' and nothing else.

I'm not sure about this to be honest, I would love to see it happen. But I can't help but think that we are all going to be disappointed when they announce a less thrilling signing, namely - Garay.

Ale

1.) A Bale deal would be better.

2.) I can't see him rushing back from australia to tie up a deal that should go smoothly without him needing to be in the country (garay), that's just my opinion though.

phil

3.) Phil,

Completely agree with you. A big signing hopefully

Mad Hatter

4.) Bale or Fabregas seem the most likely since a deal Garay would not need to much work to complete, whereas any deal for either Fabregas or Bale would demand huge amounts of time and effort. Either Bale or Fabregas would be great, but I think Vidal would be the perfect signing.

5.) Forget bale. not going to happen

6.) Chelsea announce a Rooney bid was made, and all of the sudden Woodward is off to Manchester. I think it's quite clear

IMO that bid is a bit low for two of Everton's key players.
It's still early in the day, so I fully expect there to be more movement on this today, probably in the shape of an improved bid.
Personally I think getting some mid-field muscle (Fellaini) in before the Chelsea game could be key to the season, even this early on (yes I know it's still August).

I have a feeling that Fellaini IS the marquee signing.

But if Bale is on the cards, I really hope the deal doesn't involve Hernandez, I really would hate to see him leave. Personally, I think he is the best partner for RVP. Their qualities seems to complement each other better than RVP and Welbeck IMO.

I have a strange feeling that nothing is going to happen until deadline night and then we will sign some unknown 17 year old for stupid money and that will be our lot for this year. Maybe we will get someone in January when we are in desperate need and lying in 6th.

This is all too frustrating, all the big clubs around Europe are getting stronger and stronger and we do nothing!

Also, I don't buy Moyes' excuse that he has only been there 3 weeks so have patience - What about City, Chelsea, Real Madrid, Barcelona (to name a few) who have all changed managers this summer but have still managed to be active in the transfer market.

Really starting to worry about next season, we are going to get left behind if we don't strengthen soon. Some people are saying Moyes is waiting until the pre-season is over, but by then it will be too late and all the good available players will be gone. Also, if that's true why did Woodward need to go back so urgently?!

Would actually take any signing being announced right now, just so we know Moyes hasn't lost his cheque book!

I think that Barca will accept in the end.

Fabregas and his representatives have been very quiet throughout this process, usually when a player is certain they don't want to leave their agent will be out saying so.

Plus, something must have prompted a bid from United in the first place, I don't think he is as unavailable as Barca make out.

For example Chelsea were told that Rooney is not for sale, but their bid was prompted by the player being unsettled. I am sure that a second/larger bid would force United in to a sale.

Perhaps there is a similar underlying reason to the bid for Fabregas.
