Hi Ed,

I have seen a quote today that Odion Ighalo from Watford has said he wouldn't turn down a move to Manchester United if they came calling as he watched Dwight Yorke and Andy Cole growing up and I wondered if he could be a player we would consider going for? I've heard no rumours or anything but I think he could do a good job for us.

Thanks in advance and happy new year :)

{Ed001's Note - there has been no interest shown before these quotes, it is possible that may change now but I would think the club would want to look at him more closely first. Which would make it more likely to be a summer transfer, if it happened.}

1.) 07 Jan 2016 11:18:01
how well do you rate him Ed.

{Ed001's Note - decent enough striker, not top class, but far from the worst available option.}

2.) 07 Jan 2016 11:20:06
Thanks Ed and keep up your great work :) it's much appreciated.

{Ed001's Note - you are welcome mate.}

3.) 07 Jan 2016 13:54:20
I would take ighalo over will keane anytym (NOT SAYING WILL KEANE IS A BAD PLAYER THOUGH) but ighalo is scoring goals most of the time out of his own hard work and that is how it is going to be by us also if he comes at the moment lol. if i was louis i would go for him.

4.) 07 Jan 2016 16:26:34
Wes,

Why are you benchmarking him against Will Keane?

5.) 07 Jan 2016 17:25:13
Because at the moment will keane is our backup striker as martial is being used on the left side. soo for me ighalo could do a better job and might play way better then wayne upfront.

6.) 07 Jan 2016 19:51:24
I have a lot of friends who support pne and they said will Keane was one of the worst players they have had this season, though they are happy too have Johnstone back on loan. Keane was great for our youth and reserves but he seems to be struggling with making it in a more competitive league. Injuries obviously stunted his development and I feel he won't smoke the cut here. I hope I'm wrong though.

7.) 07 Jan 2016 20:45:08
Will Keane is already 22 and nowhere near good enough to be at a PL or even a championship club. He'll be gone soon if we are lucky enough to find a buyer.

8.) 07 Jan 2016 21:15:06
So why recall him then?

9.) 07 Jan 2016 23:47:35
Have you seen him play in the last 3 years angelred? Nowhere near good enough. Ashley Fletcher and Marcus Rashford are better than him, heck even Powell is better.

10.) 08 Jan 2016 08:13:47
That's what I'm saying ozzy. I haven't been watching him at PNE. But if he has been that bad, why has he been recalled then?

11.) 08 Jan 2016 11:07:34
Sorry angelred, I misunderstood your point. I truly have no idea why he was recalled.

12.) 08 Jan 2016 11:37:01
Baffles me mate if he has been playing so poorly. It still remains to be seen whether or not he will get much gametime anyway. With adnan recalled and LVG previously stating he saw him as a forward, surely adnan would be ahead of Keane in the pecking order. But I am just speculating.

13.) 08 Jan 2016 14:06:40
Seems an odd one to me too. I'm just speculating but perhaps we have the intention of loaning out someone else from the 21s that needs experience and we need keane to cover I really don't know.

14.) 08 Jan 2016 23:21:23
Ashley Fletcher has gone on loan Ken so you might be on to something.

According to reports (yes i know probably not true) Pedro's transfer to us may be delayed by a week after Neymar got mumps !!! typical :(

1.) 10 Aug 2015 17:48:12
I don't understand the hold up just pay the release clause if it's true and city are in for him we could lose him . Then we will have to probably pay more for someone else hfully the panics for nothing and the deals been done

Hi Eds,

Is it likely that there is truth to the rumour that Rooney has a clause in his contract that says he can't be dropped ?
If it is true then surely this is madness as I have never heard of such a ludicrous clause in a professional footballer's contract before.

{Ed004's Note - I would highly doubt it}

1.) 03 Nov 2015 17:54:29
No club would ever agree to such a clause, even for Ronaldo or Messi.

It is a rumour to try and justify why Rooney hasn't been dropped.

Its simple Rooney will be dropped when he is no longer captain. LvG has said his captains will always start when fit, as they are key to the team in a way more than simply playing performance.

{Ed007's Note - Glen Johnson had a clause in his Liverpool contract that he had to play when he was fit.}

Pedro flying to Chelsea to seal a move to them ??? is this a joke ? ! First we don't bother going for Otamendi now we lose out on Pedro because of haggling over a few million. If this is true we need to sort out our transfer haggling !

18 Aug 2015 08:05:08
It's looking like Pedro is a go, possibly for today. I was listening to Talk Sport this morning and they broke the news about 12 o clock this morning that we may even have agreed terms with the player and now it's showing on Sky Sports news with the same story. Fingers crossed but we still need a striker. What have the Eds heard ? :)

1.) 18 Aug 2015 10:45:27
If it's on sky then it must be true, why not have a bet on skybet?

In all seriousness, does look like this one is happening.

Anyone else get the feeling that we are not going to sign anyone in this transfer window ?

Dangerous plan as we are not exactly guaranteed a Champions League place this season at the moment Luis.

1.) I'm almost certain we won't sign anyone, unfortunately.

2.) The January window is always over priced, we could sign Reus for example but he will cost us nearly twice as much as he will in 6 months time, is he worth 15-20m for 4/5 months of football?

The other problem tends to be the players you really want aren't available, so you end up over spending on a player you don't even want for the long term.

Look at last January, we signed Mata for 37m. Now no one is saying he isn't a great player, but he didn't get us Champions league football. He needed time to settle in and that's baring in mind he already knew the league. And he certainly isn't worth 37m, and now we might even see him move in the summer as he might not be part of our long term plans.

Meaning we over paid on a player who didn't help us get UCL football and then have to move him on at a loss 18 months later. Hardly great business.

The best thing is to have our targets and if and that's a big if they become available in January for a slightly and not hugely inflated price then sign them, if not then best wait for the summer.

3.) Yeah I also doubt we will buy anybody this window. Risky business, but Ed says our problem with FFP is wages, so it might be sensible to outbid teams now, so we don't get into a wage war in the Summer. I appreciate it can be more complicated than that.

Does anybody know if the 3 window thing counts the winter windows? I mean is it going to be 3 years before we are "fixed" or 3 windows like most people talk about?

4.) 3 windows I believe beast, as LVG only has a 3 year contract.

5.) Do we really need to buy tho? I really don't think so. I know the ideal situation is for us to get a quality CB, but if we don't spend in this window, we can make do with what we have. What's even more important than spending now, is getting our players to work TOGETHER. I don't know what they do in training to be honest, because they don't seem to know each other's game. Pass and move. seems like a chore. LVG need to sort the training that's affecting the injuries, play the players in their right positions, ditch the 5-3-2 nightmare and I guarantee the team will play much better football. Why is ADM playing striker while Rooney is in CM? Why is Ander consistently on the bench? I like LVG but I just can't understand his thought process.

6.) Lol mata 37 million. Thanks for that :P

7.) 23 Jan 2015 08:27:52
Aron,
Yeah, and Torres cost 50m, not to talk of Sheva and Kezman.
Rocko,
We signed Valdes this window :)
Beast,
I agree with Anon, i believe it's 3 windows.
Shappy,
I believe that if our targets are unavailable, this window can be used as a quick fix window, should a club require such. Question is, who can be a quick fix for utd? Vlaar WAS the only one that came to mind and he is out injured.

My problem with this is that yet again we will waste time trying to get big name players all summer and end up failing and if we need him to complete the team jigsaw then we should go all out to get him.

Why should he get credit when it was because of his lack of new players in both transfer windows, particularly up front, that meant he was forced to play youngsters to bail his useless backside out of trouble?

LVG out still!
