I think Garnacho has shown in the last few games he can play this system. Our issue is at the back and Centrally midfield. For me Massouri is much better in a back 3, not a wing back, him with Deligt and Yoro would be strong. Collier has shown he can play as a CDM, him and Urgate with Mainoo ahead. Amad wide right, Garnacho left with Bruno false nine.

We need a top centre forward and dominant midfielder. Been the same for years. Yes left back or left wing back is a problem but if teams play through our midfield at will as they do now and we can't take the chance we do take then you can have htee left sided players on the pitch and we will still lose.

Thing that will cost garnacho his career at United is not his talent or potential it’s his ego.

Agreed, Salford. If Napoli are still interested in Garnacho, I’d be trying to work out a deal for Victor Osimhen, assuming they put a termination clause in his Gala loan deal.

Why are we looking to buy a striker?
We have kids scoring for fun in the youth team.
Chido obi. 17. why not give him some development time.

Anyting we do this window will be out of desperation and clubs will pull our pants down.

Bite the bullet, drop the lazy, overpaid players and start blooding the team of the future.
I'm pretty sure fans would get on board if the club communicated that strategy.

Ruud,

Because he’s 17, you think the way out of this is to have a 17 year old who’s never played a game of adult football as our first choice striker?

Garnacho is talented and could maybe adapt to play one of the inside forward positions. He is still very raw and at this stage is probably better off the bench rather than starting.

The real question is does he have the right attitude/ mentality to do what is needed to be successful at this club?

If the answer is yes and the manager wants to keep him then I'm more than happy for him to stay.

However, if his head isn't in the right place and he isn't prepared to graft and put the hard yards in, or the manager doesn't think he suits the team then a parting of the ways is best for everyone concerned.

In truth we need improvements in pretty much most areas of the pitch.

We don't have a striker who is ready and able to lead the line for us. Højlund is talented, but needs to develop more before the weight of the club's goalscoring burden is placed on his shoulders.

We need more energy in midfield, too many of our midfielders lack mobility and pace.

We need actual wingbacks, on the left particularly, but also on the right as well. Amorim's system doesn't play with 5 defenders, playing natural fullbacks in the wingback position is probably creating the biggest issue with our teams performances right now. While I think Amad is better suited long-term to playing as one of those inside forwards, since he moved from wingback and Mazraoui has started there our performances have dropped a level.

Wingbacks need to be attacking players with a good defensive work rate. Not defenders who are willing to supplement the attack.

Those three positions are of highest priority (ST, WB and CM) .

However, you could argue that beyond Amad and Bruno the options for inside forward positions is severely lacking. Mount if fit maybe, Garnacho if he can adapt maybe. We could definitely do with another one in that area of the pitch.

CB, particularly LCB looks light on quality in depth. I think RCB looks pretty strong. I think it's Mazraoui's best position in this system, while Yoro has so much ability he will become world class in a few years. The central CB position looks pretty solid, MdL has quietly been very good, rarely letting us down. While Maguire has been more than adequate back up. Yoro could also get some minutes in this position at times as well if needed. Martinez has been a bit of a worry at LCB, there isn't a natural player to cover for him. While he hasn't consistently been able to replicate his pre-injury form since his return. There are valid arguments that he isn't the best at defending the wide channels or 1v1 against a player with pace. We about need someone in this position to challenge him and possibly take his place if they can outperform him.

Finally there is still a question mark over Onana. He's actually been much better than most give him credit for. That was Always likely to happen due to him replacing a club great in DDG. Anything less than perfect was always likely to garner greater criticism. He's capable of the magnificent, but definitely fits into that stereotype of a madcap keeper who can drop a clanger every now and again. Something also seems off with his distribution. He was absolutely excellent at both Ajax and Inter, but is very hit and miss with us. Personally I think this is an issue with the quality around him. With him not consistently having players in front of him who will show for the ball and be prepared to take the ball from him, forcing him to take longer on the ball or try passes with a lower chance of success. He's not someone that is anywhere near a priority to replace, but is a position the club should be keeping an eye on and scouting for. I think as the team improves in front of him we will see him improve as well. If not then he might need replacing in a couple of years time.

It's pretty clear that while Garnacho isn't a problem and in an ideal world you keep him and see if he can step up and develop. Given the massive amount of rebuilding needed, the clubs current financial position; and the potential that his sale could fund 2 or 3 top quality, well suited, signings that go straight into the starting 11 then it's not a deal we can easily dismiss.

GDS2 tell that to Wayne Rooney, Micheal Owen or Robbie Fowler amongst countless others. If you're good enough, you're old enough. Also, needs must.

TopBomin that's my point exactly.
Even if it's the last 15 mins etc.

I watched the brighton game last week and the attitude from the players is really evident when you are in the stadium seeing what the cameras don't.

If you are not playing well, you must at least work hard. Our lazy "elite" players make it hard to watch!

I’m sure he’d be playing if the manager felt he was ready. I suspect it’s more because he needs to bulk up to ve able to hold off some of the brutes who’ll be up against him rather than anything to do with his age or ability. He’s currently scoring for fun against puny teenage defenders.

Not sure Rooney, Fowler, or Owen were typical teenagers, they were generational talents. I'm all for opinions but lately it's a bit mad on here.

26 Jan 2025 15:42:49
Beckham, Giggs, Scholes, Butt, both Nevilles, Lee Sharpe, all generational talents. You're absolutely right though, you don't win anything with kids. Perhaps we should just stick with the same players we have now. After all, change is never good and what would we have to moan about if decent football was on display.

I figure we pretty much lose every week at the moment, we've got very little money to spend, why not try something different?

12.) 26 Jan 2025
26 Jan 2025 16:59:39
Giggs was a generational talent, I think you'll find the others were a lot older than 17 when they got their chance, but don't let that spoil your flawed argument.

That team Redcon would be exactly same problem as last few years Nooooo Goals in it, ok you get few from Bruno, Amad and Garnacho but that’s hardly enough to get you in top 6 let alone top 4
Lots of people can play the system but to what level, I could play any system but to what level, Garnacho is just not good enough, so if he goes good riddance, but we still need a striker who can get 20-30 goals a season along with Bruno and Amads.

16.) 26 Jan 2025
26 Jan 2025 18:56:37
Bolger no one cares about ego if the player is putting in the effort. He seems to have taken the criticism on board and is knuckling down. The issue with Garnacho is his poor on field decision making. The question for me is whether that can be improved on to the level required.

17.) 26 Jan 2025
26 Jan 2025 21:05:16
I don't need to Google it, I was there. Gigs was a regular, the others didn't get significant game time until they were 20, 1995/ 6 season, and then not all of them. But hey you're right, let's throw a 17 year old in.
