Ayden Heaven reminds me so much of an 18-year old, left-footed Rio Ferdinand.

Our defensive options for next season should be:

RCB - Mazraoui or Yoro
CCB - De Ligt or Maguire
LCB - Heaven or Martinez

RWB - Amad or Dalot
LWB - Dorgu or Leon

Genuinely no need to change things there. Let Lindelof and Shaw go, move Casemiro, Eriksen and the three loanees on (MR, JS and A) and invest in a Ugarte understudy and a first choice 10 (Cunha) and a 9 (Osimhen) .

Gutted as it looks like he's picked up a serious injury. Could be out for the season which will be a massive shame as he was starting to really put a marker down.

I was saying this the other day to a fellow united fan. Definitely glimpses of Rio, more so in the way he just looked capable at such a young age.
Him, and yoro will be the cornerstone of the defence, both had/ have injuries early doors, see how the kick on post recovery.

Shame because he looked very good, much better than Yoro imo at this stage.
But have to disagree with the poster saying no changes needed there, Martinez is poor and probably even worse after another injury, Mazzouri not for me, Mc Guire and Deligt both too slow, Deligt marginally the better one
Yoro looked weak, and not great
None of these are good enough, Heaven showed more in 4games that he is going to be good than any of them.

Martinez showed only a few glimpses of his best form this season - after another serious injury I doubt he will get back to his best and wouldn't rely on him - great motivator though with a winners mentality so we will miss that - with our money problems if he can't perform as needed best to move on . that's the reality of the finances now.

If we can avoid injuries for our CB's next season I think that list of 6 will work well, enough for rotation and cup games. Ideally we would replace Maguire with another 18/ 19 year old to develop under De Ligt.
We could be set for next couple of years.
Martinez adds some real agression but can be a bit rash and has not had his best of years but who has this season, hopefully he comes back fit.
I would happily let Shaw and Lindelof go contracts dependent.

I think Yoro and Heaven look like different kinds of centre back. Simply put, I think Heaven is more of a blocker and Yoro is more of a baller. In a back 4 I'd be thinking they could be a good partnership. In a back three I think one either side of MdL would be a decent defence.

I have to agree Ed025, imo he is poor too, not suited to EPL at all, stupid tackles means he always injured, tries to use aggression for his small man syndrome, far too rash, but he is very Rich….!

Really like martinez he has great characteristics imo but totally agree that he is throwing himself into tackles constantly in a way that he can come of worst. Or in a fashion that is nasty.
Very good footballer and progresses the ball well. Would do great at Madrid or Barcelona imo where they control possession and his last ditch style defending on transitions would be more required.

Downsie I don't think we should count on Diego Leon next season. As he's coming from the Paraguayan league he needs a gradual step up. Loaning him out next season makes more sense to me. If Shaw can't show some level of fitness we should get rid and get in a lwb in his place.
