When asked about more deals, ETH said “Potentially yes, but we have to be realistic “.
What a tease :)

Great news that. Hopefully be the fix we need in the middle of the park. Going to be an interesting 10 hours to see if we have anyone else come in or go out the door.

Happy there is a new midfielder, have to wait and see how he looks in the premier league.

Amazed another striker hasn’t really been linked or looked at from what’s been said over the last few days. We need goals or at least good options to play up top.

Interesting that it's a loan with a €10 loan fee with a buy option for €25m next summer.

Now it's said this is to stay within FFP, but then the manager has hinted that the club may look to try and do another deal. Also it's said it's a buy OPTION not an obligation.

I'm not sure that Amrabat is the player they really wanted, but more likely the best they felt they could get given the restrictions they were working with.

Unless he's a massive success I wouldn't be surprised if we don't sign him permanently next summer.

This deal has felt all summer long like it was being lined up as a just in case deal. The club spoke with his agent then placed this deal on the back burner, only speaking to his club 72 hours before the window slammed shut.

They also didn't look to do this deal until they had signed the back up keeper and the emergency replacement LB. Further highlighting the lack of drive or urgency to get this deal across the line.

I'm glad he's here, we needed reinforcements. I'm slightly skeptical about whether he is good enough, he has the right skillset, but can he consistently put in top level performances that you need to play for a top side. I'm not so convinced. But let's wait and see.

I’m also glad it’s done, he’s probably not a world beater but he’ll do a job and from what little I’ve seen he will at least put a lot of effort in which is half the battle.

However, the lack of goals in the team if a real issue. Left back loan should have been put on hold until they found someone who can score some goals. Need a striker, can’t rely on a new kid who’s still learning.

I saw on the Liverpool page about a week ago ed002 mentioned we were looking to sign ezequiel palacios from leverkusen but it would be for next summer when casemiro potentially will go to a Saudi club, is this still the plan Ed?

{Ed002's Note - They would like that.}

Fallguy,

How do you know we can’t rely on him? We have paid a lot of money for him, the club obviously think he’s good enough, so fingers crossed they are right.

Let’s hope Ten did not want Amrabat then, because ones he did want and signed not exactly pulled up any trees.
Before people say Cas TBF he wanted DeJong and wasted a whole summer on him, not really want Cas and Cas was best player last year.
He wanted Antony and got Antony, not setting the world on fire
Ten picked Carthorse, he was good! ok some will say he was a loan, yes he was but there were others around I’m sure that could have been loaned who could actually score.
He wanted Mount, we don’t know yet where he going to play! So we have to wait on that one.
I’m not overly excited with Tens purchases as I’m not with the team as a whole, because I don’t see it as good enough to win a league, I’m confused in what we are looking for if I’m honest, maybe just happy if we can secure top 4 plus did not want Ronaldo, because he did not press, fair enough, but next breath Ten says Martial is good at press! Then get Carthorse TBF could press, but could not score! Now we appear this season to sort of half press…Individually, we are now in 2nd season and is there a style we can be sure we are actually seeing or at least an end goal, we got two wide players in Rashford and Antony, not really going to supply lots of ammunition for the new forward, so yes I am a little perplexed to say the least, one thing for sure we spending lots of money assembling this.

I don’t know we can’t rely on him to score goals, but it’s an awful big gamble only having one striker for the season. (Can’t count martial as a striker, well not a good one anyway)

I really do hope he hits the ground running and is a superstar, fingers crossed.

Hojlund might not score bags of goals by himself this season, I don’t think any of us are expecting him to, but I reckon he will change our style of play enough and give defenders real problems in the box that it will create space and open up chances for our other forwards. I’m not sure we need another striker, if Rashford can push on from last season, and Antony can build from what I see personally as a positive start and contribute more, add Bruno who is always good for 15+ goals, and then Hojlund maybe 10-15 goals himself, I think we will be absolutely fine in attack this year.

Martial is also still in the squad, as much as people don’t like him (I don’t either) you can’t just ignore him so he’s the back up striker.

Looking forward to the window being closed so we can just get on with it, the squad is looking good, some good options off the bench as well so let’s hope we can find some form like we did last season.

Don't forget amad will be coming back as well, I'm sure he can play and has played centrally in attack plus he gives another option out wide right.

ezequiel palacios?

Anyone seen him play and any good? googled him and he plays for leverkusen, can't remember personally if i have watched him. I guess will be watching some leverkusen games this year:)

Oh ok Chris of course I answer to you. So all the people who don’t think we are looking that great should disappear of the site, wow it be good then won’t it, like when everyone said Ole at the wheel will all be fine then you all turned round and woke up!

I stand by what I said last night Ahmad, he’s not a United fan. I think a rival fan coming here to troll and spread negativity. I agree no United fan talks about our players like he does.

Regarding Hojlund, people shouldn't expect him to score a ton of goals, I don't think that's why he was targeted.

I believe he was brought in because he can do the job Weghorst did, making life, but better, and while also scoring a respectable number of goals. He isn't a pure goalscorer, which is why comparisons to Haland are so annoying. Instead, he's a forward who will Make life difficult for defenders, force mistakes and create openings for other attacking players.

However, he's no Weghorst or Heskey, he will score a decent number of goals too. Just don't expect him to be leading the race for the golden boot.

With Rashford, Sancho, Martial and maybe even Antony or Bruno offering cover/ rotation options, I'm not as concerned as some of you seem to be. We'll need another striker in the future, hopefully as a replacement for Martial, but for now I think we're ok.

We shouldn’t be accusing posters of not being United fans or being a troll because they have a different opinion. Argue your own opinion and Trafford has his own. Personally I can see Traffords point.

When I said Moyes was a disaster people on here were telling me what to post. Ole people on here couldn’t see it and told me what to post.

Personally I am not convinced about our plan and what has been bought or not bought. We shall see but I suspect we will have a real fight to get top four, Villa could be a dark horse. Goals win matches, we hope the new striker can deliver. Defences win championships so I suspect we will be hoping for a cup.

Red Man,

There is a difference between your succinct posts explaining your points and the rambling constant rants of somebody saying the same thing all the time with zero balance and everything negative, I think that’s the issue.

We can all see that everything isn’t amazing, there are players we could have bought better than the ones we have, we didn’t sign all of the exact players people want, but the whole teams isn’t useless, there are some promising signs. We haven’t played well so far but we have 2 wins from 3 but that’s not good enough because we ‘should have lost’, it’s just all very pessimistic and boring and if you post like that you’ve got to expect a bit of a response.

Nobody wants anybody to stop posting, far from it, this place is all about opinions, but if you come on and only post negative stuff like you’re a rival fan you’re going to get called out on it, always have and always will.

Call me out all you like, but don’t accuse me of not being a fan of united, in fact tell me why else would I spend so much money at United game after game, and been doing so for past 5 years and previous to that season ticket holder for 20 years and then was only able to get to max 6-8 games a season…. sorry i am not head over heels with this team as you are. Only seems about opinions if they match yours, that’s the problem, if your happy with the team great, no problem to me at all, but you seem fixated with me, clearly same as you are about someone called Maze you harp on about. Like I said help is available.

It's often suggested that managers should be given three years. Enough time to rebuild the team in their vision, and to see the fruits of that labour. I think by the end of his first season, mentality and workrate has clearly improved. Style isn't quite there, in fact I can't remember the last time Utd were completely enjoyable to watch (even in Fergie's last season we were flat) we're not playing great and not killing teams off, but we won a few things.
I reckon by the end of season 2 on the playing front Erik will have added 12+ players in total and cleared out a fair few of the so-called dead-wood / bad eggs. Give it until next summer and I'm certain we can include McT / Maguire / Martial in the departed list (maybe even Jan), and hopefully we'll have won something else and be looking at some really strong reinforcements as we'll need to replace those three too.

That's a fair summary Spenno,

Massively important that we finish in UCL places so we can keep the rebuild going. Even better if we can shift these Glazers.
