ED001, Love the bit about Slabhead being fit as being good news for the Scots. If he plays tomorrow he will be well and truly off the pace.

{Ed001's Note - cheers MH, not that it will probably matter as Steve Clarke doesn't know what attacking football is. Very good defensive coach but awful head coach.}

Mad Hatter - United looked a complete shambles without Maguire at the end of the season. I don't understand the constant hate. he's by far the best central defender for both England and Man United.

How are you loving it when a United player is being slated by a rival fan?

Have you watched him play. He positional awareness is poor, his lack of pace is a problem as it affects his ability to track and get it the box.

He is our best CB, but that isn't saying much. I just think he is a poor defender.

{Ed077's Note - I still think Lindelof is our best CB, not Jacob.

Mad Hatter - Maybe it's because his partner Lindelof is absolutely garbage which is why we are in the market for a new one.
His stats over the season don't lie, have a look at them.

Dias and Van dijk are world class defenders and the current benchmark.

Maguire doesn't even come close to those two despite his world record fee.

Imo Bailly is our best CB 'when fit'.

I don't rate Bailly that much. People think he is our best defender because they have not the chance to see him play 20 games in a row. For me Lindelof is by far the better defender at the club, although i agree he would be better suited at a club like Barcelona.

Herrera, Lindelof is better suited to ladies football, very weak in the air and bullied on the ground.

Yet he rarely been dribbled jrred.

when I say bullied on the ground, he gets mugged in possession, plus the goal we conceded in the EL final, very weak not to block the run.

Agree jrred, Lindelof has been bullied regularly by EPL forwards.
Even in the Europa finals, he lost the man for the goal.

As Ken always says, Lindelof is like a fat girl's blouse :)

Ofcourse he is not strong people accuse him more than he deserves. I don't think he is at fault for Villarreal's goal, the ball played at his back, Moreno was Shaws from the start but made the move at the back of Lindelof and Shaw lost him. It seems that people always blame whoever is closest to scorer but that's not the case most of the time. We are not good at set pieces and that's not Lindelof to blame.

Lindelof has always struck me as more of a CDM than a CB in England at least.

While being tall he seems to lack the core strength and that slight nasty edge to get stuck in that the best CB's in the EPL have always had. He seems a little too laid back, placid even. I suppose that is why he has picked up the nickname "Iceman".

That is why he is too easily robbed of the ball and out muscled in the air.

Yet he excellent reading of the game, which leads to the stat of him being the least dribbled past defender in the EPL. His passing is good, with some great longer passes to players like Rashford sticking out in the memory. While he is mobile enough to play CDM. Matic was a top CDM with much less mobility than Lindelof.

I think he could be an excellent CDM.

The Europa League goal that we conceded was not Lindelof's fault. Shaw lost his man, not him.

I have been thinking the same Shappy for a numper of years Shappy. He could be a very good cdm. Or a very good defender on a less physicaly league like La Ligue. Or a good defender at our team if he had a top and physical defender next to him.

I agree Herrera, for me as a CB in the EPL he reminds me a little of Daley Blind. Technically very good, but lacks real pace and easily bullied.

In the EPL he could be a solid CB, but never a great one. He could be excellent in a league such as La Liga or Serie A.

Every time I see him play I just think he could do an excellent job as a CDM shielding a defence.

If we sign a top CB like Varane and don't sign a CDM I wouldn't be surprised to see him start a few games at CDM.

ED077,

Utd actually have a best CB, or is that best of a bad bunch?

Lindelof didn't lose his man in the europa league final it was Luke Shaw he also ran past Eric Bailly who everyone says is dominant who got blocked off. Lindelof covered his man then realised there was a problem but couldn't cover someone else's error. Is he perfect no he could probably do with bulking up a little but his positioning is good and his long range passing should be used as a weapon more often its exactly what we thought we bough maguire for. He's looked at his best in the few games he's played alongside tuanzebe.
