One more thought and a series question.
Should Ronaldo be given the captains arm band?

Actually Ken, been thinking about that. For Portugal Ronaldo showed some real leadership as captain. He will demand on the pitch and carry ultimate respect of one of if not the greatest all time, even if in the twilight of his career. It would be a big call but captain is not a bad shout.

Nah, no need and I don't think it's prudent. As mumbles says he will be a de facto leader anyways, like Bruno. Think Maguire is a deserving Captain but no doubt Ronnie will be a massive presence.

Chris it was a serious question. I am and have been a maguire supporter. The price we paid is not his fault. He has been good for us. But I don't think he is the natural leader of this squad on the pitch.
I think Bruno probably should have got it but maguire was their choice.
I think of course Ronaldo does not need the arm band to be the leader but to my mind I won't look at maguire now as the leader and inspiration and standard setter and I doubt the players will either. So that in itself undermines him a little as captain in my opinion. Not in a negative way but its just obvious in my thought process. i'm also not suggesting Ronaldo would want it.
I think you have interpreted my OP in the wrong way all together.

Doesn’t really undermine Maguire when he got it in his first season under no merit.

Ronaldo has won it all, he leads by example with a monster mentality. He knows what Utd are about more than Maguire. He’s a legend at the club.

Maguire’s influence as captain has been increasing as of late, so I’d rather he kept the armband as he’ll almost certainly outlast Ronaldo at United. As others have said, Ronaldo doesn’t need an armband to be a leader.

That’s something, along with a winning mentality, that I hope he and Varane bring with them.
