Let's just remember what Ralf said and reflect on it. "You don't even need glasses to see and analyse where the problems are, " "Now it's about how do we solve them? It's not enough to do some minor amendments - cosmetic things. In medicine you would say that this is an operation of the open heart. "

The board were probably upset given how hard they thought they had worked, the players (they thought were good) they had brought in, how they had had to get rid of lovely Ole, how much money they spent.

Reflect because we lost an opportunity in Rangnick to restructure, likely because it would have exposed some of the board as the utter amateurs they are. They didn't want change, too comfortable in lofty well paid positions.

We have to support ETH now, having missed an opportunity but will the amateurs jettison him should they feel threatened again?

Red Man I agree but also fear that without a full sale of the club to the sheik we will rinse and repeat.

Agreed Red Man. I dream that Rangnick becomes our DoF after any takeover.

Brighton after City had the best results against top 6 teams last year. They beat arsenal at Emirates 3-0 and beat liverpool by the same Scoreline and were more dominating. They drew with city 1-1 at the ettihad which I watched and should have won that game.

I look at the result with some perspective. We lost to a pretty good team having a patch work line up on the pitch due to injuries and other issues with players. Most players were coming back from international break having played 2 full games. We looked tired, leggy and never got near them. My view is these players did not turn into turds overnight and we are a lot better than current results indicate and will have a major run of consecutive wins if we can get healthy and a stable first 11 on the pitch for a few weeks.

The other view is we are in major trouble and need a massive overhaul of team and lots of new players. I will not argue we need players like Maguire, mc and now Sancho gone and replaced more so as having unwanted players hanging around tends to fester into a dressing room issue.

Some people might say that is an excuse and we are united and should be able to grind out results no matter what but that is being too simplistic and ignoring some realities.

If that is the case why did arsenal sh. t the bed with one injury to Saliba last year not 9 or 10 as we currently have, I have lost count.

My personal opinion is eth should rest some players and the Bayern game is off no consequence and its game that we can lose and means nothing in terms cl qualifications imo.

We have never wo there with some of our greatest teams in the past and not going to be any different tomm. A bit more short term pain is worth the long term gain.

Unfortunately the media and fan blitz would be unbearable if he rested the likes of Cas, Ercison and played a second string patch work team. The alternative is worse as we might be looking at more injuries to key players.

It a no win situation for the manager as people will blame him for playing players and them getting injured and if he does not play them and tries to protect them, we all heard the boos when Hoiland got substituted.

Now we are getting leaks from everywhere and these are difficult times for the players and the manager and the club. I am interested to see how he handles this rubbishstorm.

Red Man, I was recently thinking about the players Rangnick recommended as well.

Supposedly Gvardiol and Alvarez, both now starting for the best team in the world.

We messed around with Haaland and couldn't get it done, and we had Bellingham at the training complex but supposedly provided no clarity or guarantee of minutes.

Imagine this. Gvardiol, Bellingham, Alvarez and Haaland.

It highlights the lack of direction. I'm not one to focus on what might have been but it's a bitter pill to swallow when we have people in positions of power who have no idea whatsoever about how to yield it.

Ive said on here many times RR was the right man to be DOF - He seemed to me to be like a really good headmaster of a large school thrown in to cover the Chemistry teachers maternity leave . That wasnt his fault.

Everything he said about the club was true and he probably only ever had half is opinions voiced- in the right set up he could have moved us forward a decade.

Another brilliant post Red Man we must keep the focus on the right people, disinterested owners, poor CEO and DoF.

Pretty sure it wasn't a club decision but EtH decision not to want to work under rangnick.

I partly agree RedMan. However, I think that because of some poor results we're in danger of overlooking what has been some really good progress. We were limited last summer in what we could do, and it ended up going right to the end of the window to secure signings. But that's because of a mess that the current people in charge - primarily Arnold and Murtough - inherited. Woodward has left an almost indelible and certainly atrocious legacy.

Ten Hag is a top quality coach. He's proven this. The squad he took on was really poor. He took on a lot of players in the club that will do fine to get the team to upper mid-level but very few that could aim higher. There may be some issues with signings he made, but, bar some short term form, they've generally done well. Antony, Hojlund, Casemiro, Mount, Martinez, Onana, Malacia, Eriksen, Amrabat are those players and most of these have been unavailable for the majority of the games so far this year. With a poor squad we can't really afford to have so many injuries. I think the manager deserves more patience. There's a lot of negativity around the club right now but some of it will lift when results turn around. And they will turn around. We've too many good players and good coaches for it not to.

Great post. People tend to question everything based on a few results that are not a reflection of the teams ability imo and too many negative factors effecting our results atm.

You have a very kind list of fixtures coming up after the Bayern game with the majority at home. That could give you some confidence and momentum if you get the right results.

Fzzz

If Ralf didn’t want to work with Murtough? Get rid of Murtough

The decision to embrace change, put Ralf in should have come from the top, above Murtough. Turkeys don’t vote for Christmas and the owners should have supported it. You know casualties could have resulted but that’s what can happen in change management. Instead we let the nonsense continue, could not face tough decisions.

I agree totally Ralf was the right man but in the wrong job.

United will flounder until we appoint some to run the whole of the football show with clarity of vision and purpose.

He needs freedom to implement his philosophy over the entire football operation and freedom to bring in the pieces to implement that vision.

You appoint the right person at the top, he brings in the football administrators the manager the coaches at all levels who fit that vision.

The scouts and the academy find players to fit that vision and it continues as a piece leaves you replace. The vision evolves over time as football evolves .

My fear with United is we got one piece right in Ten Hag who isn't able to run the show from the very top, he has too many sub par people who don't share his beliefs (murtagh as a prime example) his background at Unite England and Everton shares little with Ten Hag as well as providing little evidence of experience or achievement to run United footballing operation as DoF.

I fear Ten Hag who I do think should be a very big piece of the puzZle will a casualty unless changes are made or some people take very big steps up,

It was alluded to that Ten Hag didn't want someone above him making sporting decisions. Fair play to the man, he had the courage to take on one of the biggest jobs in sport but insisted on complete control. Not entirely convinced he has that sadly, and like any of the previous Utd managers since SFA is probably thinking back to a few things that were told that swayed him to take the job as opposed to the reality of how they've turned out.
