Should Vidic be sold?

Last couple of seasons we have not seen the Vidic of the past, yes this has probably been down to injury but as he gets older I think he is finding it harder to shake off the injuries he has had and regain full fitness. He has made 25 apps in 2 years and at 31 time is surely running out for him. Should we cash in on a player that has peaked and will be on the decline or should we keep him for the stability and experience he brings?

I know when fergie sold Stam he said it was one of the biggest mistakes he has made but at that time I think we did not have the quality in youngsters we have now and it wouldn’t be the big loss we suffered then. (Reason I say this is because I think until we brought Vidic we didn't fill the void that Stam left. I’d take another Stam over another Vidic any day) I think if we got 15 million for Vidic it would be a good piece of business and as long as that money is invested back into the squad in the defensive department I would not lose too much sleep about it. (Baines? Young Potential CB?)

We currently have 3 very good players in Jones, Smalling and Evans pushing to start in his place and I think maybe their development is suffering from the lack of game time in their preferred position. Most of us see Jones as an important player for United over the next 10 years and I think he should be getting his chances now, Maybe he has suffered a little due to him being so good at DM.

Next season I’d love to see Smalling and Jones at the heart of United’s defence as I see these 2 as our main CB`s for years to come. Maybe that would be a little unfair on Evans but at the end of the day he’s Irish and that pairing will benefit England as well as United (LOL)

I also do not see Ferdinand at United next season so along with Vidic we could be freeing up some decent money off the wage bill for new signings. Dare I say the R word?

1.) Vidic may well be sold this summer if a good enough offer comes in from Anzhi or Zenit.

Sydney!

2.) 01 Mar 2013 10:14:27
Of course he should, along with, Rio, Evra, Carrick (england reject), Cleverley, Young, Nani, Welbeck, Buttner, the well dodgy keeper fluff the Gea and the chunky munkies Rooney and Anderson. No requirement to sell Scholes and Giggs there done.

Bazil Brush

3.) Personally I would sell Vidic if we got a decent price but I couldn't see us getting more than 8-10 million for him. I would like Hummels but can't see it so the next one would be Zouma. don't get me wrong I love Vidic & he is a warrior but I think the injuries have taken a toll on him & sentiment cannot come into it
Blackpool Red

4.) It would be a disaster if we lost both Vidic and Rio's experience in one summer IMO. If Rio goes we can't afford to let Vidic go. Personally I'd keep them both with a view to next season being Rio's last. When Vidic has played he's looked a rock and has improved our defence since his injury. I think with good management he could be back to full fitness by next season. I'm a big fan of Evans, Jones and Smalling too - I'd say Vidic & Evans deserve a chance to be first chice from the start of next season.

5.) Selling Vidic would be a huge mistake, Rio is likely to be off this summer and Evra is on his last legs. If we lose Vidic then our most experianced defender will be Evans at 25. We can't afford to lose such experiance in such a key area.

6.) So what if evens is Irish he has being our second best defender this season only behind rafa who is amazin at the mo but to say evens is Irish keep the English lads in would work for club an country is personic no guarantee it would work an leave the best centre half we have on the bench to look after the national team your a joke plus evens is northern Irish more one of you's than one of us if he was Irish he would play for the republic for the games an exposer he would receive. Your post could be perceived as racist please take note for future reference

CAIN

7.) I think if people got there way we would buy a new team every season, the only players that haven't been put up for sale on this site are raf and rvp

8.) Spot on Jred

Every season would start with a completely different team. Wait for RVP to slip up, and the knives sharpen and posters coming here with "I knew he would get injured somewhere down the line, what was SAF thinking when we bought him, sell him till we can get something for him".

After all our "4th HIGHEST GOAL SCORER" gets slaughtered after one poor game. And they say "all he does is run around" and "work rate" ain't nuff. Just running around in circles and getting close to 200 goals for the club yeah. Sell him!

9.) Cain I started to read your post but the lack of punctuation and poor spelling has made it very hard to understand so maybe remember that for the future so we can understand your point. If you believe I am being racist from my post then "your a joke"

It is simply a post I put up for people to debate but as a Englishman I would prefer to see Jones and Smalling in the team over Evans if it did actually benefit England. Not racist just a deflated England fan looking for some hope for the future!
I'd be happy to keep Vidic in our squad but he is not the same reliable defender playing week in/out anymore and if the money could be used to invest in the team for the better then why not sell him? If a Russian club offered 20mil for Vidic and we could go get Hummels for £25mil you would not be interested? Figures just random but that wasn't my point anyways.
And Jred did I say buy a new team? I'm talking about using the talented youth we have in our ranks to benefit the team for the future?

10.) So you know I'm right an are pickin hairs over spelling your not only a joke your just plain foolish regardless of the benifit of England you would put two English internationals in the back four when better players are on the bench. I hope you can understand my spelling when I tell you your foolish. Jones an Smalling are good players but I feel jones is better Smalling has being laggin lately. Maybe you should take over from fergie you seem to know your stuff. An not understanding spelling you seemed to answer my post rather fast an to the points. Thank god you have no name but I have a few for ya.

11.) No name
he has had one serious injury before which he was probably our best best player
In his position he was one of the best 3 players in the world imo
Luckily we have some good cbs so we have been able to give vidic the best possible chance to fully recover with out the need to rush him back.
In his last few games I think he has looked very good
Next season I would fully expect to see him back to full fitness and probably back to being our best cb

12.) CAIN mate, chill a bit. I see why you are unhappy but I didn't read it that way. Poor choice of words perhaps but that's all

13.) Totally agree with jred. If some poster's on this site had their way we'd be selling 6 players and buying another 6 at this rate. This is not Footy Manager. We have a good squad that needs 2 or 3 improvements.

From what I've been seeing it seems there could be a exodus at Madrid in the summer. Hopefully United will take advantage of this as I think we really missed out when selling Ronaldo a few years back. Imagine a United team over the last few years if we had taken Van Der Vart, Robben and Sneijder (ssss) when they went on the cheap.
Will he interesting to see who becomes available over the summer!

1.) I think Ozil is very plausible. Some don't agree. However we have placed bids in for him on numerous occasions over the past 3 years. SAF quite often gets his man, this could be the year. Other than Ozil I'd like to see Di Maria here, or Coentrao.

Fresh! {Ed004's Note - Don't think I would want either of the latter two. Both seem to have terrible attitudes which can be costly at times. Both have received there fair share of suspensions since joining Madrid. Something we do not want to have to worry about in games}

2.) I can't see Ozil going anywhere but Bayern, I'd like to think we would be in with a shot but unless they show no interested or he wants to stop at Madrid then I can see him in Munich next year.
I can see your point about the bad attitude problem Ed but if anyone can control them its Fergie. Cue Cantona debate!

If I could pick 3 players excluding the obvious I'd take -

Khedira
Varane
Alonso

Realistic targets? {Ed004's Note - I'd love Varane. He will be world class and one of the very best around the others I'm not sure we would have a chance of getting tbh}

3.) Do Bayern really need Ozil though? They have Robben, Ribery, Muller, Kroos, Shaqiri, not really sure he's what they need.

4.) I would never want nor ever have Robben he gets injured getting off the bench, Van Der Vaat Is too much like Anderson and can't last a match due to stamina issues. I would have had Sneijder but tbh am glad we blew him out

5.) Give me Ozil or Goetze and I will be a happy man indeed. I would sell Rooney to get both in the team imagine a front 4 all interchanging of Kagawa, Goetze, Ozil and RVP. If played like the Chelsea front 4 of Hazard, Mata, Oscar and Torres were at the start of the season it would be incredible.

Was just playing Fifa (lol) when it twigged, I wonder why united have never really been interested in German players? Been so much quality over the years but we have never seemed bothered. Who was the last German player for united? (Yes I will probably google it before getting a answer)

P. S don't write out your post and then click log in, you will not be happy! {Ed004's Note - The keeper Zieler}

IHaveNoName!

1.) I think it is the same reason you don't get much foreign interest in english players, they hardly ever leave their national league.

2.) It got a little swamped, but I think the key question there is why haven't we invested in German players?

Its an interesting point. I can only offer the idea of a language barrier. We've had a lot of Europeans with a national second language of English. And Queiroz would have helped the Portuguese and Spanish contingent. Is there any more to it? Taking into account a pursuit of Mesut Ozil recently.

3.) I wouldn't have thought language barrier would havr anything to do with it, both Kagawa and De Gea struggle with the language

4.) Dont forget Anderson, and he's been here for years!

TRUMORS

5.) I think its just that Top German players prefer to either stay in Germany or go to the sunshine of Spain.
How many top German players can you say have played in the Premier league?
It tends to be good German players leave Germany to go to top teams to win things and the great German players go to Bayern to win things.

6.) Think ballack was a great German.
