What ever happened to our interest in the Vadillo kid from Real Betis?

What happened to our links with the Quintero kid from Colombia? I hope we sign him because Porto seem to have a deal in place. Eds any knowledge about the matter?

letitifils

1.) This one baffles me to. Reports that he's going to Porto for 10 million and Man United have not joined in is crazy.

Even if the player is concerned with playing time a deal to loan him out immediately could have been agreed. You just don't let talents like this slip through your hands.

Just been looking at videos of Nick Powell and I must say the boy has a wicked shot in both feet. Future United great

letitifils

1.) Great potential however most people on here don't have the patience they have a long wish list of fantasy players who will block his development.
The modern fan!

2.) That is my greatest fear Dylan. Hope he is given enough time to develop, be it at the club or on loan. Can see him playing as a 2nd striker or CAM. Seems Wigan are interested. A premier league loan move or championship, which will be better?

3.) A good loan next season would do him the world of good IMO. Then come back the following season and be eased in slowly, he looks a real talent. My only worry is he stays fit and get's enough game time.

4.) I believe he will become a midfield player not quite the guile for a no. 10 but a great presence and ability.
Would be saving us a massive amount of money if he comes through the pre season tour

Dylan he isn't ready for the first team yet. He needs a loan. Of course long term he has a future at the club but young players have to be managed properly and not end up injury prone burnt out wrecks by their mid twenties like Owen from playing too much football too young. MrE

6.) Dylan, please can u elaborate on 'most people'? From what I've seen on here is nothing but praise for Powell. ? Most think he needs a loan for first team action in the way of Cleverly or Welbeck.
I personally think he is a better prospect than both! And look forward to his development.
I was very disappointed when SAF said he intends on using him as a Midfielder. For me, he is a forward. I think he'd blossom off a main striker. It's strange, but I feel he has a certain swagger that sees him perform best when taking centre stage. A bit like the goal he scored in the playoff for Crewe when he knew the world was watching that game purely to see what all the fuss was about Powell, and why united were keen to sign him (amongst the other top clubs).
A loan to Everton if they sell Fellaini would be perfect IMO.

7.) MrE

I agree with a lot of what you say but I think some of our younger players (Powell is a prime example) do need more game time than they have been getting to help them develop. The problem with loans and reserve football is the standard doesn't challenge them so they don't develop as much as they should. You only have to look at De Gea and Rafael to see how quickly players can develop when they are in the pressure cooker of first team football.

8.) 18 Jun 2013 19:56:25
Darklard difference is De Gea was playing in the Spanish top flight as a teen, Powell was playing the English fourth division. Its a huge jump. Add in his injury issues and I think a loan to a top championship or lower prem club would do him a world of good. But it has to be a club where he will play regular. No point sending him somewhere he won't play. MrE

9.) There was the old maxim "If you are good enough you are old enough". Even still I would say there are a lot of English players hyped up that don't make it, and usually I think it is because they actually aren't good enough we over hype them as we would love a good British player to come through. And it isn't just about buying fantasy players that stops there progress, look at Barca and many of the top German clubs at the moment they have plenty of top young local talent within them, and it isn't as bad as we think in this country either if you ask me. Our U21s were awful, but look at the plaeyrs that could have played: Welbeck, Jones, Chamberlain, Wiltshire, Shaw being a few. i'm not saying we are not behind other nations, that is partly as we under perform at major championships but there is top young talent within the premiership, and I would rather have a big signing than giving a youngster a chance that isn't quite good enough. Not sayin gthat is the case of Powell at all, not seen enough of him and I think he looks pretty promising actually. If he stays free of injury and is good enough he will make it, simple as that

Just want to find our everyone's opinion as I have been thinking about this for a while.
If we do sign a left back like Shaw, Digne or Baines, could Buttner be played as a left winger? What do you think Ed.

letitifils

1.) I was thinking the exact same thing, terrible defender but shows a lot of potential going forward

Kai

2.) Quite possibly but that wouldn't strike fear in any of our opponents would it

3.) What about Benjamin Mendy for Le Havre. Arsenal had scouted him previously, and he has played 48 games for Le Havre in Ligue 2 at the age of 18. Only seen him a couple of times briefly, but if there are French United fans on this site, or any United fans living in France, what do you think of him?

Best post I have read on the Rooney saga. People just want a scapegoat, some one they can insult and blame. Rooney loves playing for the club. I too will be passed if I was played out of position. Also people complain about his wages, but forget he carried the whole team on his back so so many times. Give the lad a break!
