As an outsider its quite hard to ignore either side of the lvg debate, because it would seem both sides are kinda right, one hand you look at his jobs previous to united, he played a huge part in making bayern and Barcelona the teams they are now, got the dutch to wc semi final with one of their worst squads in a long time, and his ajax side were simply amazing. i'm sure in a few years time you will reap the rewards of his foundations but you have every right to expect to watch better games right now, i personally feel he is adding players bit by bit to make gelling easier and you are a few players away from being the force u were. Plus 0-0 draws during a run of bad form could be worse. Could understand the cagey approach last season but your defence is 10x better this season, and your midfield provides better cover so i would love to see him have a go with these players. The potential is no doubt there.

You guys must feel like you have signed a new cb in chris smalling, i personally never thought in a million years he was man utd quality, and until this season i think that's a fair assessment, but now. Jeezo man, what an improvement, one of the best in the league for sure.

Hi mate. When he first joined I was sceptical, he looked like he wouldn't make it. Ironically Jones looked the world beater, but roles have severely reversed. But the last 2 years I've been a massive fan and he's growing into a top class CB. If he carries on his progression at this rate he'll be united and England captain for years to come.

2.) 17 Oct 2015 16:53:32
Second half of last season it all suddenly clicked for him.

3.) 17 Oct 2015 17:05:09
He's been fantastic since getting sent off against City last season. Let's hope Jones can start to improve as well!

Hi folks rangers fan in peace here, always had a soft spot for man utd and have read your site for a while as well, one thing that puzzles me though is when talking of potential cb pairings it always seems to be new signing plus either jones or smalling with no mention of rojo. Imo otamendi beside rojo and you guys will have a very good defence. Is rojo rated at the club?

A lot of people on this site rave about him, but I've never been overly impressed, he's a bit of a battler but nothing compared to jones, and gets caught out of position lots so not as good as smalling in that regards. Also he cannot pass a ball to save his life. i'd be terrified starting him in central defence against chelsea or arsenal. he's back up at best imo.

2.) 12 Aug 2015 17:47:30
I rate highly and I agree with you. I think he will be our long term no1 lvg appears to rate him but you're right not many on here do. His defensive stats are good he is relatively inexperienced at cb and has a lot of improvement in Hamas he possesses a lot of the right attributes to succeed IMO

3.) 12 Aug 2015 17:47:31
Rojo is a decent player but for me smalling always looks more composed and we need someone with a calming influence, he's definitely a solid second choice for me though if smalling or otamendi aren't available, then again lvg is OCD about having a left footed lcb so he might end up starting anyway

4.) 12 Aug 2015 18:00:49
I haven't seen enough of him to judge him fairly as a CB at Utd, I don't like him at all at LB. He is a tough player which we all like I'm sure and is very committed in the tackle like most Argies. Personally I think he doesn't have the ability with the ball that's required, he switches off and has a tendency to hoof the ball a lot. If we expect to win things he isn't a starting CB for me, but he is better than both Jones & Evans - (and Blind haha). The hoofing was a lot to do with how poor the movement was in midfield and upfront last season to be fair, this should improve now.

Our new Wes Brown, he could improve given a run of games of course, hopefully he turns into our next Vidic.

5.) 12 Aug 2015 18:35:28
Mixed feelings then, i can't see the appeal in smalling or jones tbf, good players but not in the class of a club like yours. I think otamendi and rojo along with another 2 signings and you are a good shout at winning champs league. Battler beside a leader kinda logic. Just hope your neighbours or chelsea don't get to buy the league.

6.) 12 Aug 2015 18:42:19
I think blind is a really good player beast (not a cb right enough) technically sound but no pace. Versatile though which i believe would by why van gaal signed him

7.) 12 Aug 2015 19:43:34
Seems a strange LVG signing to me as Rojo is kind of anti philosophy, he likes a tackle but isn't an option when we have the ball in possession as his second touch tends to be a hoof. I think that's why LVG will go for Smalling and hopefully Otamendi, Jones is another player who i don't think has a footballing brain, hence all the last ditch tackles as he is so often out of position, don't think he is disciplined tactically enough for LVG, but has the versatility to be a valuable squad player.

8.) 12 Aug 2015 19:49:43
Although I'm more a celtic boy (Irish). I agree, I feel Blind is an upgrade on John Oshea. A good upgrade!!

9.) 12 Aug 2015 20:30:43
Blind an upgrade on O'Shea! Are you kidding?

I'd like to trade in my top of the line Rolls Royce for a people carrier.

10.) 12 Aug 2015 20:49:43
Eh?.

11.) 12 Aug 2015 21:11:58
Romero, Otimendi and rojo. You have the Argentinian central defence and goalkeeper. That's not a bad combination, is it!!

12.) 12 Aug 2015 21:44:57
Danny,

Are you suggesting blind isn't better than john oshea?

13.) 12 Aug 2015 22:26:53
That was my thinking schmid, and patzi i won't hold that against you pal lol. But c'mon danny mate, blind is twice the player lol

14.) 12 Aug 2015 22:32:48
Ask yourself:

How many times did Blind score an injury time equaliser against the world champions?

How many times did Blind nutmeg a world player of the year?

And have you ever actually seen Blind march down the wing?

15.) 12 Aug 2015 23:00:22
Wasnt questioning oshea mate who was a goid player just i think blind is better, but as for marching down the wing bud i do believe he played cm for you boys most of last season and a few games at left back in which he did pretty well if my mem serves me well

16.) 12 Aug 2015 23:23:09
And how many injury-time winners has Blind scored against the Scousers?

Coulda swore i said including a few 0-0's ed002. Not once did i mention they were wins. I was speaking of the run since their last defeat which are wins, including 3 nil nil draws. Simple really.

Ntblue

{Ed002's Note - Perhaps you could find someone to read this quote of yours to you slowly "you are winning games, including a few 0-0's". Absolutely hopeless.}

Thing is boys, you are winning games, including a few 0-0's while missing players through injury, so you are coping well with any problems you face compared to city yesterday, arsenal will do an aresnal and chelsea are nowhere. And with a defence like fort knox then why not? If depay and rooney could find their stride with martial to keep doing his thing, lingard to be more comfortable in the 1st team and a couple of shrewd buys in jan then its a serious unit in the making. Imo u are about to dominate for a while when everythings in place.

Ntblue

{Ed002's Note - Are there many games Manchester United are winning 0-0?}

Beast u do know the guy brought through youth at ajax Barcelona and bayern? You know, as in 3 of the best club sides you are ever likely to watch? He is famous for it. Your football is boring at times because u lack a bit of pace in forward areas, when u have that its going to be some team. U needed surgery in every area of the park yet because he sorts out you're defence and midfield first his tactics are outdated. LOL. he's won more things than youv had hot dinners my man and, if it wasnt for him Barcelona would never have achieved "best club side ever" plaudits, same goes for bayern, i'm sure your opinion keeps him up at night though.
