The site feels down after the embarrassing defeat.
It highlights we have a poor coaching setup who are incapable to build a footballing identity.

I see hardly two positives.
Bruno's top class pass, outside of the foot to find clinical Ronaldo.
Donny looked clinical and strong in duels even after very less game time.

Another point is that Ronaldo and Varane will not accept this.
They are winners and will question the management.

Hopefully this was just a blimp and we immediate reaction in the forthcoming matches.

It was nice to see Ronaldo coming off the bench and trying to rally the troops.

People may think it was just one game but we have continued where we left off last season. Any chance of progression will be unlikely due to the current set up.

Last night was an embarrassment. Ole got it wrong, way wrong. The players are just as culpable as he is. We don't look organised and never have done. Any team that plays a high press against us, will more than likely get a win. We struggle to contain teams that play like that.

This reminds me of the final SAF years, only without the trophies unfortunately.
And the link is Phelan. I don’t see Carrick having the impulse to park the bus after going one man down against Young Boys and it seems McKenna did. a great job at drilling the United way into the academy kids, so everything points to Phelan, for me.

I‘m sure Ole isn’t a great tactician, he is a motivator (apparently), great man manager and seems to be great at building a squad.
And this reminds me of SAF as well. So we need to find a better assistant for Ole.
I feel Ole is perfectly suited for a Director of football type of role - develop an overarching philosophy, guard the culture at the club and select players that fit into both. He‘s excelled in that role in the last years, just look at the squad he built (yes there is a big hole in the middle - and again a parallel to the final SAF years - but otherwise it looks amazing) .
And if he gets a more progressive and expansive No. 2 like Queiroz back in the day we should be golden.

Have to disagree on Donny, I can only assume people are seeing what they want to see rather than what’s happening, I thought he was poor once again, hardly touched the ball and will rightly be back out of the team on Sunday. I need to see more from him.

Jonny, while I agree that Phelan is a thoroughly uninspiring coach, and I had the same opinion when he was Sir Alex's assistant. It is down to Ole to be his own man. He doesn't have to listen to Phelan, and he could always replace him if he doesn't agree or thinks what Phelan is saying/ doing isn't right. Most of Sir Alex's assistants went off and managed top level clubs in their own right, yet no one wanted to take a punt on Phelan. That speaks volumes.

Ole much like Sir Alex before him seems tactically limited. Sir Alex had the where with all to hire assistant managers and coaches that covered his weaknesses and not exasperated them. If Ole is to succeed he needs better men around him. Unfortunately while Ole is lacking in experience, Phelan is at best over the hill (in truth was never that great to begin with), while Carrick is a former player with a years coaching kids, and McKenna has only coached kids before.

GDS, Donny wasn't Keane recarnated in the first half, but he did complete the most tackles of any midfielder, while only Maguire had more touches/ made more passes, while Donny had the highest pass success rate. He was decent in a fairly poor team performance.

You're right GDS, Fred is way ahead. Keep Fred in, and Donny out.

I'm not down a little disappointed perhaps but overly surprised by anything that happens on the pitch anymore.
I don't think anybody can be surprised at any result we get in any game. We have the players to beat any team and the manager that can lose to any team. This has happened consistently now for 3 years. Its no surprise.

Shappy/ Ken

Ole seems to be getting as many coaches as he wants but ultimately someone needs to make the decision, the right decision. However, decisive management, where it is proved right, is not what we are seeing.

What next, a coach for tactical substitutions, a coach to coordinate in game management, another to make the final decision for the manager so he doesn’t have to. Therefore Ole can just focus on keeping the players happy and waving his arms, be the poster boy for the owners.

Utd keep adding coaches to supplement the missing experiences of the manager, increasingly ridiculous when you think about it.

Fred was a lot better than Donny last night, I’d say he was probably our best player, which in itself is worrying. Interesting he had so many touches Shappy, I’d like to see him take a few more risks when he does have the ball and earn himself a spot in the team.

It was a bad result but the red card and the pitch definitely turned it in their favour. i'm not a fan of them pitches. its not all doom and gloom like it's made out to be.5 games left and I'm sure we will get atleast 4 wins.

One more reason for our bad form is the lack of penalties.
Our tactics is to get and score pens and we are not getting any.

Don't see how Ronaldo jumping up and down on the sidelines can ever be positive. It undermines the manager, distracts the players and clearly made no positive impact the other day. He will just get more frustrated and try to do more himself.

Fred better than dvb the other night is just rubbish if anybody could be of that opinion i'm shocked. Dvb was ok nothing great but Fred was muck. Constantly out of position running around like a scalded cat.
Useless player useless coach.

Sukhyrai

Did Ronaldos Portugal not win the EURO’s with him jumping up and down on the side giving his team motivation?

If it undermines the manager that would only indicate the manager has no gravitas and players like Ronaldo and Varane know what a top manager looks and sounds like.

GDS, Fred ran around chasing shadows. Donny looked much more composed than him and kept possession while others gave it away.

16 Sep 2021 09:50:41
Just my opinion Ken, I thought Fred was our best player, I have read many reviews of the match that agree with that opinion as well, as shocking as that may be I don’t think it’s anything that out there. Fred has been poor this season but he wasn’t on Tuesday, he’s good when not in possession so had a lot of chance to be good on Tuesday.

16.) 16 Sep 2021

Fred is better at winning possession, Donny is better at keeping it.

Both were needed once down to ten men.

However, Donny offers more threat with the ball at his feet, while Fred can give the ball away cheaply after winning it.

Keeping Fred on over Donny shows a reactive approach rather than a proactive approach. A focus on winning the ball back rather than keeping it and trying to dictate the game.

The only real chance of a positive result when you're down to 10 men is to keep the ball and limit the danger the opposition pose to you.

Attacking play is all about creating overloads, having more players with the ball in a dangerous part of the pitch.

Obviously if a side has a man advantage then overloads are easy to achieve. Therefore the only way to negate the threat is to deny them the ball.

So while Fred winning bit back could be important, Donny's ability to keep it would have proved vital.

GDS2 i'm sorry but I think you just lied I have not seen a single report from anyone regarding fred being our best player on Tuesday almost every single one I seen (i looked at around 5 or so had him either a 6 or a 5 with players rated the same or better in every single rating.

Ken, the reason for Fred running around like a scalded cat was trying to cover Pogba and Fernandes. I'm not Fred's biggest fan but the amount of running he did in that second half was unreal.
Pogba was prancing around doing his usual show pony crap whilst trotting back at a snails pace when he or we (United) lost the ball.
Fernandes was obsessed with trying millionaire balls and flicks and they weren't coming off.
Van de Beek did absolutely nothing of note whilst being on the pitch.
They completely lost the plot and didn't even do the basics right, not one player put there foot on the ball and tried to get a few passes going.

22.) 16 Sep 2021
16 Sep 2021 11:46:28
Sim, you mean like Donny did in the first half where only Maguire attempted more passes than him on the entire pitch. While Donny had the highest pass completion in the match of 92%.

23.) 16 Sep 2021
16 Sep 2021 11:59:49
Simo that's Fred's job to get on the ball keep it moving and keep it simple he did not do that. He is not intelligent enough or good enough as a results he runs around like a scalded cat. He dies not excel in the position he plays because he didn't have the attributes to play there. He just runs around looking busy and he doesn't have to. But he didn't have the ability to do anything else. Most of the time he is running out of position needlessly.
Kante didn't run around like a scalded car nor does ndiddi or matic they know what they are doing.

24.) 16 Sep 2021
16 Sep 2021 12:18:22
I don't see how Donny didn't do anything. He was trying to move it forward. He doesn't need 5 seconds to decide what pass to make, he keeps the ball rolling. I was not happy when he got subbed but we knew he was the first man to go off when we needed a change.
