Cavani. I'm starting to think he isn't actually any good.

Cavani few years back would have been a splendid signing.
However, he is close to retirement now.
Frequent injuries are causing him to be rusty and his lack of sharpness.

Really, why?

cavani is class.

his movement is fantstic and his work rate is the best in the team, its a shame he is now old and cannot last a full 90 and gets injured alot

if only we had 11 players with cavanis work rate and determination.

Unfortunately there is a class of player we only seem to lure in their twilight years. Ibra, Schweiny, Cavani. I wouldn’t be surprised if a short-term deal for the likes of Higuain or Benzema transpires in the future.

Cavani was a great player. Ronaldo was a great player. Ibrahimovic was a great player. Schweinsteiger was a great player. Falcao was a great player before he got crocked.

We have been acquiring players past their best, players who have to be bribed to join us, and/ or players who are not worth their price tags, putting them into teams that have no playing philosophy and then expecting we're going to challenge for titles. The third set of players also accounts for why so many seem to do so much better when they leave us and join a team where they actually fit in. (Dan James scored 2 yesterday) .

There's no point in blaming Cavani for not being the player he was 10 years ago. Give the guy a break. You can not expect any more than the 100% he gives every time he sets foot on the pitch.

Sure he runs around a lot and I applaud the effort he puts in. I wish more Utd players would show the same level of commitment.

However, he often goes missing in games and doesn't score very much which is a problem for a centre forward. This season he has two goals in fifteen games.

I accept this Utd team aren't very good at providing service to the centre forwards but I feel he has had sufficient chances to score more than he has.

I can't remember him pulling out anything particularly of note like beating a couple of players and curling it into the top corner or a brilliant diving header. He has one assist which was the cross for Rashford to tap in against West Ham so he doesn't really create anything. Can anybody tell me a game for Utd where he was really really good?

Some of you have made excuses about his injuries preventing match sharpness and I am sure you are right. However, it doesn't matter the reasons; if he's not contributing then he's not contributing and if he was any good then he would be contributing.

Maybe he used to be a good player but from what I'm seeing he isn't anymore.

Shawthing, give the guy a break? Seriously? I'm not having a go at him as a person, I'm just saying that I don't think he is a very good football player (anymore) . Do you?

Seems like a centre forward Fred; loads of effort but not much end result.

I think Cavani lost his passion playing for United when Ronaldo came back and Ole got sacked.
Cavani saved Ole's bacon a few times last year with important goals and Ole begged him to stay for one more season which he did.
Before you know it old big head (Ronaldo) comes back and demands his number 7 shirt and is picked as the preferred first choice striker.
Add to that Ole got sacked i would feel pretty p. ed off as well.
I bet he can't wait to leave at the end of this season.

Just have to comment on this,
Ronaldo humongous amount of goals everywhere he been, even was scoring under Ole.
Cavani, scored many many throughout his career and for us last season under Ole.
Rashford Regular scorer under Ole and previous managers
Bruno, high scoring midfielder even under Ole and overseas
Sancho, regular scorer at Dortmund
Greenwood always scores when chances presented.

Have a look at how many the above have scored since Ralf appeared and maybe that’s the problem. To me Ralf is the common thing here, they can’t all become so poor in front of goal all at the same time! That’s all I am saying.

Redtints

“Just have to comment on this”

Ole got sacked because everything was going so well everyone scoring. Right.

There was was more hope of a move forward in the first half of our last two games than in any game in years.

Cavani is 34, Ronaldo 37, time waits for no one.

Ofcourse they can Redtints. You are a better finisher when you are not excausted. So they finished the chances under Ole but it will take to be used to Ralfs rythm.

10 Feb 2022 19:52:37
That makes no sense Herrera what you just said because they miss most in the first half! So now you saying they not fit enough for 45 minutes….
I have to agree with tints on this.

Red man I don’t think he was saying that Ole was great, to me looks like just an example of they scored under everyone except now, but of course if you see something different and have another reasonable excuse that’s also fine mate.

Holeinone

I see a structured approach appearing when previously it was haphazard.

Goals make entertainment, goals win games, goals wins points, we are not doing the number 1 and hardest thing in football scoring and let me tell you it’s not because they are all out of form.
You can be as structured as you like, play pressing play fast play sideways, but if you don’t outscore your opponent you never win the game let alone the league. RR is living in the past I’m afraid and it’s showing that he is out of his depth with these players.
All the he said this, the player said he did not say it, the tantrums the moaning it’s all because he is out of his depth, ok was shoddy under Ole but now you got someone who thinks he a elite level manager but can’t back it up, Jesus why would you take any notice of him.

Hole in one,

I’m getting the word… Maze.

17.) 11 Feb 2022

I don't say they are not fit for 45 minutes Holeinone. I say that players who press tend to miss more chances like Werner does. When you are in front of goal after making two sprints then you are exhausted and often you miss the chance.
On the other hand if you are playing like a poacher and all your strength goes at finishing (like Ronaldo) then you score more goals.
So maybe they are not used in this rythm and it is a matter of time. Who knows.
