Apparently we've submit an undisclosed bid for falcao, hope that's true!

Sheff

1.) I would love that to be true, Sheff, but somehow I doubt it is.

2.) We seem to have an obsession with expensive players wth ropey knees

Heard very strong rumours that our officials will hold talks with Roma officials when the teams play whilst in America regarding The Keving Strootman transfer.

Sheff

1.) Apparently he is back in training. Could be lined up for a late summer move?

2.) If not summer then very probably January

Fair enough, and yes, against players who combine really scary speed with control and skill, he would be exposed.

But the premier league doesn't have a lot of players like that any more. Bale and Ronaldo are in Spain now, and most of the really super-fast players left here don't have that kind of skill. most of them also play wide, so they would be the fullbacks problem primarily.

Sure Sanchez is bringing a bit of that speed and skill combo to arsenal, but only a couple of others here have it, so I don't see it as a huge problem.

Hummels may not be the fastest centrehalf around, but he's not usually that slow, tiredness and a ridiculously high line were part of the problem for him against Argentina.

More importantly, I don't see any centrehalfs even close to his level, who are significantly faster, being available.

4.) Thome, I do agree Hummels would be a good signing. Its true the game against Argentina, high line + the opposition, is not something he will have to deal with week in week out. I think it needs to be acknowledged though that there is a potential weakness there, and it has a higher chance of being exposed in the premier league, especially in a team that has aspirations to attack in big games.

Firsly, I think there are a lot of explosive forwards in the premier league. Aguero, Sturridge, Sanchez. Even mid table teams have players with pace and skill up front. Loic Remy, Lukaku, Benteke, Bony.

Its not just the centre forwards either. A lot of teams are playing three attacking midfielders behind the striker. U don't see that as much in the Bundesliga, but it certainly makes the exploitation of space a greater threat for centre backs to deal with. There are a lot of pacey/skillful players in these areas too. Ramsey, Strerling, Toure, Townsend, Willain, Oscar, Hazard types. Mid table teams also have good players in these departments. Ben Arfa's, Mirallas's.

The question for me has to be at what price is Hummels available? I would pay up to 20m for him, considering we may have to restrain the way we play in certain games, to accomodate his qualities. For other sides who play a deeper line, and more defensively, perhaps Mourinho's Chelsea for example, I would have to say he is worth 30m. Personally I get the feeling Dortmund will start listening to offers of around 30m (?.)

I thought Andyreps made a good suggestion in Shawcross. If we could sign a Shawcross for 7m, you have a player that is experienced and can perform a decent job in the first team, even if he won't blow us away with his brilliance. If he could do something similar to what Gary Cahill has done at Chelsea, we would then have some time and the resources to wait for a marque centre back, - that suits the system we want to play. We can use the huge reinvestment funds we presently have (- that we might not see again by the way, depending on the glazers long term outlook, ) to sign players that best suit an attacking system.

I want to see players that give us the ability to be successful, but also, to play as a team worth watching. With the funds we seem to have at the moment, and our reputation still intact, we have the ability to do that right now. We shouldn't waste this opportunity.

Van gaal wants to bring in a winger in the transfer window;
"We've no wingers of the highest level like Ronaldo or di Maria so that is necessary" Ssn report

Looking scared at the back, every time there is pace against us were shaky, a strong, experienced controlled defender is in extreme need. Hummels of course will cost a lot but is what we need, however lacks pace, all we need is thiago silva;) vermaelen would do the job. Herrera of course can't do the job on his own, really hoping we bring In vidal, experienced and classy but hope is slowly fading. I know it's crazy but I think mascherano would be quality for us, versatile so can play midfield and is an aggressive centre back.
Feel like we need a winger for sheer pace, which we lack and need if we play 3 center backs, cuadrado is more suited to a wing back but would love to see di Maria, and feel we would benefit a lot more with Lucas Moura than psg do
So overall my dream ins and outs would be
Ins:
Vidal
Hummels
Mascherano
Cuadrado/di Maria
Outs:
Fellaini
Kagawa
Hernandez
Zaha (loan)
Nani
Drastic turnaround from when I started writing this, 2-1 up now, also shaw looks strong imo,

Where's modric stand at Madrid at the moment, kroos has come in, could he be available? Although too attacking for us we need a more defensive minded player, any thoughts?

Sheff

1.) 29 Jul 2014 14:07:46
------Modric------Kroos------
Bale-------James-------Ronaldo
------------Benzema--------------

2.) Modric still has a part to play for madrid and madrid would be very unlikely to sell. If he did become availible the chelsea would be the team i'd expect him to sign for. Jose rates in highly and have enquired about him when he was at tottenham and madrid. As far as i'm aware utd would have no intrest in him.

3.) This means XABI, illarramendi, Khedira, Isco, Casemiro will be surplus to requirements or will be playing ocassionally.

4.) I think Ozzy is right with the formation, though it does seem to lack steel. Modric is hugely popular there, and rightly so. Fantastic player. They may drop James in games where they need a more defensive or stabilizing presence.

5.) 29 Jul 2014 15:26:53
Wish we had their midfield options!!

Read an article where Woody is saying 'we can break the transfer record if we want' I think this means they've been thinking about it a lot, but the only player we've been linked with who would break the British transfer record would be cavani. Interesting, don't know how he'd fit in but I'm sure we'd use him well iffffff we ever sign him, unlikely I feel.

Sheff

1.) What are you talking about?

It doesn't mean anything, for the past 5 or so seasons EVERYONE has been saying Man Utd don't have any money.

Ed is saying, "look, United fans you've got nothing to worry about, we're aware that purchases need to be made and we're in possession of the finances to make it happen, the value doesn't really matter to us, as long as it's the right player".

Also, that means any transfer record, the United one, the British, or world.

If you're sitting there going THAT MUST MEAN WE'VE SIGNED CAVANI, RONALDO, NEYMAR, MESSI AND VIDAL! Then you're mental.

2.) Just wait for the "Ronaldo to return Old Trafford" rumours to start tomorow to ease the boredom

3.) 23 Jul 2014 13:20:07
He was quoted saying British record not world record, which is 50 mill, no one we've been interested in has been over 50 except cavani so who else are they going to talk about? I didn't say messi Ronaldo neymar or whoever you're going on about, have some sense

4.) It is all cheap talk anyway, Woody can say whatever he wants, but who is out there that we can buy for a world transfer record? No one.
Basically, it is all a load of bull as Woody knows, as we all do, that there is no one out there to break the transfer record on.
The statement is meant to say we can spend, but what a shame there is no one out there to spend it on. Typical Glazer/Woody ploy. They should just concentrate on getting Vidal, pogba, hummels, de Maria, if they're that serious about spending money!

5.) Nomidfield

I do agree, it's cheap talk until we make the necessary signing.

The season tickets have been renewed, they can say what they like now and it's going to be fine until May.

I'm confident we'll spend, but if we don't I GUARANTEE this is what the club will say:

"Last season, we had a bad manager and a squad lacking in confidence - we've made our most important signing, LVG."

If he then fails to get us top 3-4, the club will roll out the same chest-beating, sponsor-attracting bumf from May onwards. Rinse and repeat.

6.) I am a little surprised at Woodward giving any quotes about ability to spend big because surely that gives another club the ability to ask for more. Personally I would rather have a chief exec who doesn't give interviews, who says nothing and who just gets the job done so LvG can stand alongside the player when signed. I want to see action not words so after last season he should simply deliver then sit at home with a good scotch happy in the knowledge of a job well done. That is the satisfaction of the job, not his picture in the paper together with quotes in the papers
The thing is we have heard it all before and he only gets off when the top players arrive. Look at LvG comments on the tour and preparation, doesn't mince his words. LvG is not SAF and I can bet if a player he asks for doesn't come in, especially due to penny pinching, it won't just be Woodward, we will all know, especially as LvG right now has a strong hand following the last years problems.

7.) That's what I've been eluding to red man. He is a self publicist he can't help himself . He wants the credit for signings. Just get on with it talk about if it happens. He just makes himself look a bigger k--b than he already does.

8.) 23 Jul 2014 22:34:32
he said "IF" moon and "unlikely". chill out jesus.

22 Jul 2014 17:42:57
Nothing would make me happier than a couple of huge signings right now, if we don't sign anyone I think I'll cry!
On another point- has anyone seen barca and real's proposed starting 11's this season? Insane! We need to spend big this and next summer, really big! Or develop our youth system, but without those were going to get no where near barca Madrid or bayern!

Sheff

1.) Don't worry so much, we won't be playing them in the next 12 months
