"Is blooding youngsters leaving Januzaj on the bench?" = Red Man

I'm not a big fan of Moyse and some of his decisions have been very questionable but FFS he just can't do right fordoing wrong for some people.

The lad is a huge talent but still a teenager in his debut season with a still developing physique so needs to be handled with care. He's had loads of game time particularly when RvP and Rooney were missing. Over playing him at this stage of his career could end up ruining his long term future particularly when there are more experienced fully developed, if not as good, alternatives fit and available.

Give the kid a chance of experience and development but don't knacker him by over playing him because fans believe he's a "star".

Georgie_Bests_jockstrap

1.) Moyes is handling Januzaj perfectly. Januzaj has had to play more than he should have at this stage.

We need to remember how overplaying some players in their teens in the EPL has cost them in the long term.

2.) As I just posted lower it is not about burning him out but if he is left on the bench for big games and doesn't play with Mata what will he think? We need to select his games I agree but why not play him in the big games? If he only comes on and replaces Mata I really don't want him to think his way will be blocked.
I am going out for the evening now but I just want to see someone who has such talent given a start in big games and the concern is we tactically can't fit Mata and him in the team.

3.) @Red Man

I would love to see Januzaj start every game, but fact is he has played a lot this season.

I think to go tactically further we need to sacrifice Rooney, play with Mata behind RVP, Januzaj on the left or right with another winger like Reus.

4.) Play the boy.It didn't hurt Ronaldo.

5.) Adnan has had to play a lot and we've relied on him. He will benefit from a spell on the bench. IMO it's nothing to do with fitness, physique or burn out, and more to do with keeping his feet on the ground and making sure he knows to keep working and improving to really fulfill his potential. I firmly believe he'll be one of the top players in world football in a few years if he applies himself.

6.) @Patzi

That is an incredibly simplistic way of looking at it.

Ronaldo made 40 appearances in his first season at United, having already played first team football before at Sporting.

This is Januzaj's first year of competitive football at the top level and he has made 24 appearances already, and I am pretty sure by the end of the season he will have made nearabout the same appearances as Ronaldo did in his first season.

Actually I think Moyes has shown incredible confidence in him. This is Moyes' first year in this huge job and he has been bold enough to put faith in an 18 year old academy graduate.

What about other like Owen who were burned out later on in their career?

We REALLY should stop linking everything to Moyes. He has done some good as well and the management of Januzaj is one of them.

7.) He replaced Mata, because Mata wasn't tracking back enough all night to help out Evra. Arsenal were overpowering us down the left time and time again.

Adnan came on and tracked back willingly.

Mind you, I had the advantage of watching the game, before feeling able to post about it.

I know this is a boring explanation, compared to the wide-eyed, half-baked conspiracy theory put out there, but there you go.

When we have a left back that doesn't constantly need covering, then the two will play together.

I also believe Adnan started against Chelsea, who are quite a big club.

8.) StevieK

Interesting point as to why Mata was substituted, not tracking back, but is that not one of the reasons Mourinho sold him? If so why were we expecting something different?

9.) Red Man, I think long-term, Mata won't have to play on the wing, so he won't have to track back to help out his full back.

I'm hoping so anyway, or it would be such a waste.

Eureka!

I have a cunning plan - get Big Dunc oot of retirement, perfect fit.

Plan B - sack Moyse and bring in Big Sam, wealth of experience at EPL level and would attract world class players like Andy Carrol and Lee Cattermole. What could possibly go wrong?

Georgie_Bests_jockstrap

1.) That would be the reality though my friend. Honestly, some people on here think if we sacked Moyes now we will have the pick of any top manager in the World.

I can see a lot of top managers jumping ship right now.

You know guys it was fun while it lasted, but do you really think we were IN (made an offer) for Toni Kroos?

Moyse was snapped talking to his agent (who represents other players as well eg Reus) at a game and some journo links it to Kroos unhappiness at his pay, next we're favourites to sign him. After 12yrs as a PL manager Moyse will know just about every agent on the planet, they were probably talking about the weather FFS.

If you were Kroos would you leave mid-term when barring a total meltdown you'll cruise the league, probably the cup and are one of the favourites to retain the ECL? You might if, like Mata, your manager wasn't picking you but Koos has played most games for Bayern.

Hope that hasn't burst too many bubbles.

Georgie_Bests_jockstrap

1.) Never expected him to come now, hopefully in the summer.

2.) 01 Feb 2014 02:08:11
How January turned out:

Man City - brought no one in
Arsenal - Kallstrom
Chelsea - Matic, Salah, Zouma in
Mata, Essien, De Bruyne out
Liverpool - no one
Tottenham - no one new
Everton - McGeady, Traore, Stanek
Man Utd - Mata

All in all, comparatively speaking, a good window. We got the best player. Very glad to see that Man City did not get Mangala and Fernando, and Liverpool did not get Konoplyanka.

Granted, we did not get the help we hoped for at LB and CM. Now it's time to see how everything else comes into play - form, injuries, cohesion, momentum, and surely, plenty of drama.

3.) It just makes me wonder what will happen with our supposed targets in the summer if they all have great world cups. If Vidal is really one of the very best in his position then surely other, more attractive teams will be in for him too? I know Madrid and Munich can't have every world class player (try as they might) but I worry that we'll see them courted by other clubs in the next window.

4.) Roman that is always going to be a risk but it could also be that progress has already been made towards targets. I am fairly happy to have signed a player of mata's quality coupled to the return of rooney/rvp/fellaini/fletcher to first team action. Its fairly obvious moyes will be better positioned for this summer and lots of work will be done towards recruiting the players identified. I think we will be ok this summer ;)

Paper on Sunday (if you can believe them!) are reporting that RvP, Rooney, Fellaini and Rio will all be available for Cardiff on Tuesday.
Hope so, as lack of goals is killing us and with the best will in the world Danny and Chicarito can't replace Robin and Roon. Add a small Mata of Juan and hopefully we can make OGS's return to OT a rather less pleasant memory than all his previous ones!

Telegraph are reporting Rooney will re-sign a new long term deal worth £300K a week in the near future. Perhaps this was what Michael Owen was tweeting as "more good news" for United fans given they are good mates.

Georgie_Bests_jockstrap

1.) I can't see how the club baulk at 'high' transfer fees yet give such huge wages to players, especially one who has 2-3 more good years in him! The fees extortionate which says a lot about the player to be honest Surprised he hasn't been linked with every club under the sun again to increase it even more

Would rather sell him and use the money to fund someone like Vidal who would command about half that wage!

2.) How is 300k a week good news for our club. you must be joking.

That puts him in the top 5 best paid players on the globe and I would argue he is not even a top 5 best strikers. I hope it is not true and for 300k a week I hope someone else flips the bill.

3.) It doesn't really work like that, that's why the Ed says it's better not to discuss finances.

4.) Bennett, How about we keep Rooney and also buy Vidal? We don't need to sell players to generate funds for new players and why would we sell one of our best players when we can sign him to a long term contract?

Who cares if its 300k a week?

5.) I wouldn't believe the numbers you read in the papers.
Andy green has blogged in the past that Rooney is on 160 a week not the reported 250

6.) GDS

How exactly does it not work like that?

Whatever way you want to word it he is going to get paid extortionate money when frankly he is not worth it.

7.) Are we paying Rooney's salary directly out of our bank accounts? No, so would you rather the money went into Rooney's pocket or the Glazer's pocket?

We do not have to sell Rooney unless he wants to leave. I say give him a new deal, keep him fit and make sure he stays fit, then in 2-3 years sell him.

Rooney will not be able to play at a high level deep into his 30's, but for now he is playing well and he is still one of our best players. Buy first, sell later.

8.) DD

We are not paying it out of our bank accounts? Worth it? Was Bale worth what he got sold for? Was Herrera worth triggering his buyout clause? We also have a problem with our club not forking out the extra few millions to get players. It can't be both ways. Keeping our best players
is what I would want our club to do. As it is the Glazers haven't done us a lot of favours. And Wayne Rooney is a massively important cog in the wheel for our club from a commerical standpoint. He ends up earning the club more than what he costs.

Deeps.

Vidal played today for Juve against Lazio which would be unusual in the extreme if they were about to let him go. Can't see it being Rooney as it has been touted for a couple of days now.
Have to wait and see.

Did we go for Ozil? Thought he was hoping we would, but we never showed? Moyse said, great player but not really what we need with Rooney and Kags already here.

Would fit with José's Machiavellian streak - gets rid of a player who doesn't fit with how he wants to play to a now non-rival who still has to play both Citeh and Arsenal.

Great player but another No. 10, if we want him why didn't we go for Ozil? Still would fire up the troops and help if Rooney still wants out in the summer.

According to the Mirror Coentrao has been told he can leave RM having only featured in 2 matches thus far for £12m.

Whilst I think Baines is better and offers more if Everton value him at £25m as reported, he's not worth it at his age.

Personally, I don't know whether Moyse is the right man for the job, only time will tell but one thing is certain Moyse ain't going anywhere any time soon - so back him and the team if you are a supporter rather than a glory person!

One thing I was absolutely certain of after just one season, and for several more after that, was that Fergie wasn't the right man for the job! That proved totally right - NOT!

on BBC website .

Malcolm Glazer died this morning aged 85. He is survived by his wife, Linda and six children.

Whilst many of us supporter had serious reservations about the Glazers ownership of the club, the last season excepted, the club has had major success since their take over in 2008 and as such they are part of our history.

Condolences to the family.

You're mixing up 2 different things I think.
Retrospective video review isn't intended to undermine the ref - if he says he saw it, end of. If he didn't or only partially saw it retrospective punishment can be awarded.
A straight red card for a player = 3 match ban which can be increased in serious cases, think Suez.
Red card for a non-player doesn't have any automatic suspension AFAIK so FA has to decide whether to charge manager (kit man, coach etc) then indy tribunal sits to decide guilt and appropriate punishment if guilt is established.

All this without the customary vote of confidence from the Board ;-)

Whilst I agree his contract probably does have some performance related break points I think sacking him after 1 season will almost certainly result in SAF resigning from the Board (don't forget whose chosen one he is) and, quite likely, Sir Bobby following suite. That would cause reputational damage to the club and brand so I somehow doubt it will happen unless SAF becomes convinced he's out of his depth. SAF is a stubborn old f@rt, so I wouldn't hold your breath.

I hoped Moyse would do it but he looks hopelessly overwhelmed by it and some of his decisions are frankly quite bizarre. Latest, last night trying to chase the game he only used 2 subs when Wig, who had his best game for us on Sat was bench warming. Why not take off Smalling, drop Tony V back and give us an extra body in MF?

Feel sorry for the guy as it's looking increasingly as if he was promoted beyond his level of competence.

Anyway to answer your question. Your first choices are sound though I doubt Larry White would leave project PSG. Your outsiders, Hypia? what makes him a better choice than Moyse? Pocchenno is easy to understand - but only if you speak fluent Spanish!

I would look for someone to give stability, who has a proven track record of building teams and who will bring through youth/ younger players and has a reputation for playing attractive winning football. Then see who applies.

Sydney!
Your comments about Moyse tactics may well be correct but Martinez isn't all he's cracked up to be. Everton are 3 points better off having scored 3 goals LESS than the same point last year.

Whatever the tactics, a totally inept and unacceptable display by far too many to mention.

My MOM was . Fellaini. He didn't leave I hear you say EXACTLY, no-one on the pitch deserved it!

Worse 70 minutes in Eruope I can remember since?
Have we had a shot, header at all? Let alone on target!

Have they ever played together before?
