Hi all,
Thanks to the Eds as always.
Wow, what a week it's been since Spurs. The last time a result triggered such debate regarding the manager I remember as being back in 2006 when a certain O Holt stated that Fergie had failed to achieve the European dominance he set out to and that 99' was a one hit wonder. S Jordan made some superb points earlier in the week and this is exactly what he was getting at. What a desperate, disgrace some media outlets have become. It's tough to consider but I try to imagine where else this sort of 'chinese whispers' founded opinion is replicated. I'm not bothered by how much people try to convince themselves that because they have been a fan for 50+ years or that they go to every home game, it gives them some sort of god given right to spout nonsense. 'Get real' is my message and more importantly 'lose the arrogance'. We are where we are because we deserve to be there and if a manger with the wealth of experience/ success of José who wins more in two seasons than that of other managers who have supposedly the best striker in Europe in their team, CBs we tried all summer to buy, inspiring attacking flow, are more tactically sound, WC winning GK, gets as widely criticised as they do especially by our own fans, then what fans are we?
It's time to look at the bigger picture IMO and think where else the 'problems' may really exist.
Jose has my 100% backing and I personally am very grateful he is still our manager. The media are getting very, very noisy indeed and most of it is waffle. We'll win the league this year! That's the attitude we need, that's what Ranieri told 'em.

I don’t care what the media say or do. I don’t read the papers and most of the websites are full of click bait crap anyway.
I do however, ask my opinions on what I see on the pitch and yes as a home and away going red I do fee the need to spout.

Our football is dreadful. Possibly worse to watch than user Moyes and LVG.

Jose’s style was never going back to fit with us and we’ve appointed him for short term success over long term planning.

He brings the occasional kid in and then leaves him out often unfairly, he drops younger players for having a bad game yet shows incredible patience with older ones despite what form they’re in. Martial and Sanchez wing the obvious examples but they are clearly more.

His slating of his own players in the media and interviews is a disgrace for a manager of people on any field.

His team selections are increasingly bizarre, he’s chopping and changing far too often to maintain any sort of chemistry with the team that takes the pitch. He’s not giving players time to forge relationships. Bruce and pallister and Rio and vidic weren’t brilliant from game one

His petulant rants are becoming not only boring but detrimental to the reputation of the club and it’s standing. I can be sure he wouldn’t get away with behaving like this if he was Bayern Munich’s manager.

As for transfers he’s been given a lot of money to rebuild and for me there’s not a single one of those 11 signings that has improved under him and most you can say have gone backwards. Are all of those players in the wrong?

He’s had equal opportunity to get rid of players that we feel aren’t of the right quality yet he keeps them and still plays a them and continues to rue the lack of quality on the squad.

He won two trophies, one in which we shouldn’t have won the final against Southampton. They were robbed of a very good equalising goal that would have changed the game as they were on top at the time. We got through the weakest Europa league in a long time and it papered over the obvious cracks in our side.

He lost the FA cup final against a Chelsea side in complete disarray and we hardly mustered a shot on target.

His football is from another area, he’s pat his best and I won’t shed a tear when he goes, hopefully sooner the better. I don’t want this moody, narcissist in charge any longer.

Giggsy, if it's all waffle, why even post about it, mate? Ignore it. We're looking for excuses in my opinion. The media is a useful bogeyman right now for covering up deficiencies elsewhere. The media have been like this for years, but we didn't worry about it because we were successful. Some of our fans on here are starting to sound more and more like Liverpool fans over the years, blaming everything and everyone, and seeing conspiracies where none exist.

He's just all wrong, we all know it. Might get us going for a while, might even get us a cup (unlikely) . But he's still all wrong. Sooner the changes come the better.

Exactly Stevie. The players aren’t performing, the manager doesn’t look like he wants to be here, the board don’t seem to have a unified transfer strategy, and, above all, our football has been awful.

We can’t blame Jose for all of it, because we have looked completely rudderless since Fergie retired. A DOF, and a manager with fresh ideas who wants to be here. I’m hoping that’s what we’ll get at the end of the season. Until then it’s cringe time, but I hope Jose isn’t sacked or doesn’t walk before then, as we need time to plan and decide on who is best for the club rather than who is available to jump in mid season.

Yeah, I wouldn't be one for knee-jerk reactions, Danny. Usually does more harm than good. Unless you're fighting relegation. Hopefully it won't come to that 😁.

I don’t fancy us in a relegation fight. The strop level would be off the scale. Fellaini would genuinely be our only hope.

Those media outlets are going to get together with the sole purpose to destroy Jose . That's two conferences now where he has been in total control and returned fire with every question . Those insects hate it up em 😆😆.

Quite happy with the UCL group. We have in recent years tripped up when given an easier group on paper. Over confidence, lack of focus, or lack of knowledge on the team we are playing. I don't know. But we have failed in groups we should have won at a canter.

Juventus will be a tough game, however, we can't be slaughtered too much if we lose against them.

Valencia are a very good young team. Marcelino is a very good young manager who gets his team's playing well, with a trust in youth. We have Andreas Pereira who spent a season with them last year so he knows all about them. And I expect people within our club kept an eye on Valencia's games to track how Pereira was developing. So we should know plenty about them, and we are less likely to underestimate them.

Young boys, on paper is an easier game, also it isn't a bad trip to the far flung corners of Europe to play an away game. Jose being a pragmatist will be drumming it into the players about the importance of getting 6 points against them. I expect we'll be tight and compact in Turin and Valencia, and I hope we show a little more ambition when we welcome them at Old Trafford.

It's a tough group, but hopefully that focust the mind and get the best out of our players. If we can get our squad performing somewhere near 100% then we are capable of winning all the games in the group. It's now down to Jose and the players to perform to their potential.

Good summary mate, I agree with your assessment. Valencia will be very tricky, very good going forward. It will mean that Jose fields his best 11 for at least 4 games and probably all 6 as he will want to pick up those 6 points against the 'whipping boys'. We need some consistency in team selection and this will help for once.

The order of the fixtures couldn't be much better for us really, easiest away game 1st and then the two tougher home games, you would hope we can get 6 or 7 points from these 3 games and get ourselves into a good position with Young Boys still to play at home.

Very happy we have a tricky group, last year was a bit boring and the fun seems to have disappeared a little from supporting United at the moment. This group seems more fun and I am already really looking forward to Valencia and Juve at home, fingers crossed we get through, I know the doom and gloom merchants are out in force saying they expect us to go out but I think we will be in much better form by the time the CL gets going properly and hopefully play some good stuff.

The only silver lining if we get knocked out of the group stages is that we would be able to concentrate on winning the league after that .

{Ed002's Note - I expect Sam will be looking to still do well in the Europa League.}

If we replace Jose with Sam in the next few days then I can see us competing for the triple this year. He will have more time to get across his ideas and tactical know how.

Southgate has a point, some of the players have been picked because there isn’t really any other choice. Welbeck.
