Hi Ed,
A few rumours coming out of Varane on his way to us tonight for £35M.
Can't surely be true, can it?

Red Daz

{Ed002's Note - Twitter or are you a Chelsea supporter.}

1.) 02 Feb 2015 18:04:13
Varane rumours are just some attention seeking persons on Twitter after some followers. Nothing will happen til the summer where I expect a couple of huge signings to push brand Adidas

{Ed002's Note - It is nothing to do with Adidas and offers for Varane have fallen on deaf ears this month. The bottom line is that Real Madrid have identified a replacement but see the cost as too high.}

2.) 02 Feb 2015 20:39:01
Is Laporte the replacement Ed?

{Ed002's Note - Yes. But money is an issue.}

3.) 02 Feb 2015 21:35:01
Why do Chelsea need varane when cahill can't even get in their team! Terry has at least 2 years left and zouma looks awesome!

{Ed002's Note - How many games has Cahill not started this season. It embarrasses you when you speak from a position of ignorance. Chelsea has a long term interest in the player and has been negotiating with Real Madrid. A deal was close but not possible for reasons not worth explaining.}

4.) 02 Feb 2015 22:57:15
The best thing Utd can do is sign up DeGea, the boy is a beast. . Its great to be seeing the dead wood float out, but pay the best the money!!

{Ed002's Note - Or Krul to replace him.}

5.) 03 Feb 2015 00:27:04
I don't think Krul is at the same level as the boy so why go for a lesser keeper? let's not mess about here we signed up Valdez as a short term option if it goes south, LVG was shrewd and had a real good look at him first.

Can Ed tell us if there is anything in Hull bidding for Welbeck?
Would we let him go for £14M?
I would rather keep Danny to be honest, I think he is worth more to us than that and being a local lad he has the club in his blood.

Red Daz

{Ed002's Note - There is certainly interest in Welbeck from Hull - but I would doubt he would be that attracted to a move there.}

1.) Nothing wrong with Hull Ed!

2.) I would let him go. He will never be world class and even when Van Persie retires he still won't get a regular games as he is not good enough. Needs too many chances to score 1 goal and clumsy with the ballat his feet.

3.) It would be unwise to allow him to leave without having a replacement first. We would then have two first team strikers to play every game.

4.) 14 Aug 2014 10:06:56
I would really hope not.

Welbeck has really come on in the last few years. He has become very difficult to defend against when he runs with the ball, thanks to a combination of pace, strength, balance and agility, and he has really improved his finishing a lot too.

All he needs now is to improve his decision making, movement off the ball and start getting into good positions more often, and he could be a complete forward.

With RVP and Rooney both coming past their peak, Welbeck is just approaching his, and the new formation should give him enough game time to complete his development into a top striker.

5.) Hearing things like this and Lindegaard is not sitting easy with me. We already have a lot to do without having to fill these positions too. MU should be keeping things simple with two weeks left in the window.

6.) Welbeck will never be world class and is unlikely to get regular football under Van Gaal so should be let go if we get a big enough offer.

7.) I am in agreement with Thorne, he is a nightmare to defend against aswell as a pure nuisance when in defence. He was our stand out player in the game against Real Madrid. And outshone most of their galacticos. It's saddening he isn't getting the credit he deserves for ROLE he takes. And yes I was miffed when he tried to chip Neuer, but he'll learn. LVG is the the man to get Welbeck firing on all cylinders, he took a great goal for the opener against Galaxy, I think he'll kick on now

8.) He is our only real pace up front. If Di Maria comes in then I may well change my tune - but currently he is the only one that could come on and really stretch the defense.

9.) Need to face facts, Welbeck is not going to be a top striker, the fact that Hull are the highest profile team interested in him should give people a clue. I personally think Keane and Wilson are ready to take the number 3 and 4 spot if/when Hernandez and Welbeck move on. LVG could (and likely will) simply play 1 striker if 1 of them is injured, or play Mata/Kagawa off either Rooney/RVP. We are still stacked in that position even if Hernandez and Welbeck leave.

10.) Irishlad - Comments like yours make me laugh.

"needs too many chances to score 1 goal. " You really should get your facts straight, Welbeck was more efficient in front of goal than any of our other forwards last season. In fact, he was something like 2nd or 3rd most efficient in the league, so he needs less chances to score 1 goal than most.

His finishing is actually very good. His problem is that he needs to improve his movement off the ball, as he doesn't get into the positions to get on the end of chances as much as he could, although being played out wide so much hasn't helped him there.

If you are going to slate our players, at least slate them for things they are actually bad at, otherwise you just end up looking like an person.

11.) 14 Aug 2014 11:44:52
We're not stacked at all, was good as Wilson and Keane are they have no experience. Imagine if van persie got a season ended after the window shuts and were left till January with just those two and Rooney.

Welbeck is the only forward of that type we have. Hernandez should go. But not both.

12.) Prodigal, I think Will Keane will be sold. He is nowhere near the level of Welbeck. It's too late to start selling our regulars now, it's about who we bring in now mate.

13.) Hull best place for him hardly world class loan might be better see if he can prove himself and get a good run

14.) Rooney, Van Persie, Hernandez, Wilson - that should be our strike force for the next couple of seasons.

Danny is a good honest, hard working lad who loves the club

BUT

He is not and never will be top quality.

Rooney - Top quality

Van Persie - Top quality

Hernandez - Top quality substitute

Wilson - Top quality potential

Welbeck doesn't fit into any of those categories and at 24 he needs to be playing every week (which he won't under Van Gaal).

If Hull offer serious money then time to move him on and wish him all the best.

15.) Would be a huge mistake to sell Danny - I firmly believe he will improve his composure and finishing under LVG and thrive in a fast paced style of play

16.) He is the type of striker (if can call him that) that suits a smaller club. he is not a striker who should be on a top 4 clubs books
his goal ratio is terrible

17.) Everyone saying Welbeck will improve under LVG. Well, maybe LVG doesn't think so if he is the one that is not going to play him.

18.) Think Danny will be a massive player for us this season ,I feel he will develop in the obvious lacking areas and be v important to the team,be a huge mistake to sell him ,Hernandez on the other hand has had the potential sucked out of him season by season and is now only half the player he was when he first signed ,needs to be moved on imo

19.) King Eric, Welbeck brings much much more to the table than Chico. He can disrupt an entire midfields flow when asked to.
People forget he is still young too.

20.) He has been played out of position on the wing, so it's hardly surprising he didn't score that many over the last couple of years.

With more playing time up front this season, he should improve his movement and decision making, and he will surprise a lot of people.

Another year or two and he will be a genuine top class striker. For this season though, he will make a fine understudy to Rooney and RVP.

21.) Getting rid of Wellbeck would be a pointless thing to do. He is a good player that is happy to be apart of the squad. He has a definite value in backing up RVP and Rooney + still has a 20-30% chance of stepping up to a world class level. Going by the 4 strikers rule, if we sell Wellbeck, we have to replace him with another player worth 15million.

He is definately not a natural finisher. He is not confident and hesitates in one on one situations, but his scoring improved last season because he began to make better runs in the box, be oppertunistic and take more gambles. I was impressed with that. Around december last season I think he started several games up front and averaged close to a goal per game in that period. That was a good indicator of his improvment.

He can also play as a defensive attacking midfielder closing down and being disciplined like he has done many times in big games for us and in the world cup as we all saw. Wellbeck is a useful player.

22.) If Chicharito is going to leave we can't afford to let Welbeck go without a replacement. Squad player and understudy is ok but we need 4 quality forwards - when you think back to Cole/Yorke/Sheringham/Solskjaer would he have challenged to be in that quartet?

As hard as he tries I don't think he is the quality of forward we should be happy to settle with. Work rate and effort is great and admirable but his job is to put the ball in the back of the net and he simply is not an instinctive predator unlike Chicharito or Wilson. At 24 you would have hoped his game would have matured far more than it has and being a local lad can only bias our thinking for so long

23.) Thorne

"balance and agility, and he has really improved his finishing a lot too."

That made me chuckle mate, he is so clumsy and one of the few players that actually stumbles by hitting his own leg. Balance would be the last word I would use to describe Welbeck, Bambi on ice more appropriate :)

24.) He does have good balance, just look back over his performances last season at the number of times he was able to power through challenges and keep his feet as defenders tried to barge him off the ball when he was running at speed.

Part of that is strength, but without balance he'd be hitting the ground a lot more.

Have seen a few things on the internet in last couple of hours that Woodward has met with De Jong's rep's in London yesterday and that an £8 million has been or is about to be made, can you let me know if there is anything to this ed?

Red Daz

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of a bid.}

How good was James Wilson tonight?
4 of the best and our lads beat City 4-1.
Carries on like this then Louis may have to give him some games this season.
Could sell Chico and make Wilson our 4th striker.

I think with us needing less wide players in our new system and we need another CB what about letting Young go back to Villa and we take Vlaar off them.
It seems Villa would like him back, perfect solution for us. Vlaar only has 1 yr left so we offer a straight swap.
Thoughts?

Red Daz

Red Daz

1.) Nope. I'd rather have Young than Vlaar; and I'd give Young away.

2.) 26 Jul 2014 21:06:47
Yep simple as that, that's how deals work. Would you have wanted vlaar before the World Cup?

3.) Vlaar is shocking.

4.) I'd keep Young because he's a good player. I'd sell some fans though if I could

5.) I agree with Sydney Vlaar is awful .

6.) Here here Constantine.

I would like Lew but a lot of rumours flying around tonight that we have bid the £32M release clause for Christian Benteke.
Can ed's comment on if there is any truth in this?

Rojo and Smalling for me. I would give Jonny and Jones until the end of the season if no improvement get rid and promote Paddy and Tyler.
Still think we need Hummels or Varane though or even better both.

Totally agree Aj and it's another week until the West Brom game. Do they still show Kabbadi on C4 I might start watching that.
It's about time we had a decent FA Cup run we should be after that 100% this season.

Lots of rumours tonight about us letting either Nani or Chica go to them plus 35-40M for Vidal.
Just wish it would be resolved.
