It's funny how everyone talks about Eric Baily not being good and his injury record. And how fast he should be sold but not a single person mentioned Maguire who is 10 times worse than Baily. Infact Maguire is the worse signing in United's history and even worse he's captain. Baily was far better than Maguire everytime he played for United, injury or not.

Let's not be overdramatic, we all know Sanchez is United's worst ever signing followed by Di Maria.

Obviously has read the forum extensively. DOH!

"but not a single person mentioned Maguire".

Sigh, Maguire is not right for us, but the fact he was first choice for England tells us there is a player in there. Talk about being dramatic, if you think Maguire is our worst signing ever, then you are either very young or have a poor memory.

I am not a Maguire fan, I think he was overpriced, and he isn't right for us. But the hate he gets on here is ridiculous.

Not a single person mentioned Maguire is hilarious, he’s literally talked about non stop.

At this stage I don't think anyone on here thinks HM should stay.

Bailly is the classic utd player who got better the less he played. He was all over the place and out of control when he did, and that also led to some of his injuries.

Schweinsteiger didn't work out well. Bebe? Djemba-Djemba? DVDB? Schneiderlin? Di Maria? The re-signing of Ronaldo was symbolic of the lack of forward planning. There have been very few top class signings in the last 15 years, and on top of that there were some ridiculous contact extensions that have wasted > £100. The Ed Woodward era was a total shambles. Neither he, nor the Glazers, knew jack tiddly about how to run a football club.

I liked Bailly's character and personality. But I wouldn't have him anywhere near the team. You could never relax watching him.

Schweinsteiger
Kleberson
Cruyff
Poborsky
Owen
Falcao

It’s a long list……….

I think it depends on how you judge it, as a player Maguire is nowhere near the worst player we have ever signed. In Fact if he was signed for the manager who initially wanted him (Mourinho) then I think he'd have been okay. But we tried to sign him for Jose, baulked at the 50m asking price, then went back cap in hand 12 months later and signed him for 85m for Ole.

Solskjaer seemed to be caught between two different playing styles, never really committing to one or the other. We then had Rangnick as a temporary fix, and Maguire didn't suit his high press style, which again was something the manager struggled to fully implement with the players at his disposal. So again we had a manager who couldn't stamp a real style of play on the team.

We now have EtH, Maguires third manager in 18 months. A manager who at last looks like he might be backed to make this squad suit his style of play and we will get some coherent and consistent performances.

However, for Maguire it is clear he has no place in the team and is incapable of playing that way. Simply time to move on. Happens all the time, new managers join a club and some players become less useful.

That doesn't make Maguire the worst signing of all time, just an average player with some qualities signed by a club without a clue or a plan.

That said, there might be an argument that Maguire is the worst value for money signing in our history. I think you would have to think long and hard to think of a signing who was worse value for money. Pogba maybe? Di Maria possibly. But I couldn't say for sure.

Sanchez must be very close to the worst value for money, Di Maria too. Sancho isn't looking good. All worse buy for mw than United.

Maguires biggest problem was that he was wanted by Mourinho so we bought him for Ole.

Antony would have made it but he introduced the world to the Spinnerooney, a trick so mindblowing that no one has ever tried to replicate it during a match.

Harry isn't that bad. Rarely let's England down. Imagine him with a Rio type player alongside and two full backs who didn't keeping getting out of position like they do at Utd and he would not attract half the flack.
