Hi guys,

First post since June 2014!

Does anyone know if our interest in Grealish has gone for this window? I kind of have in my head that if we miss out on Sanchez, then Grealish could be used across the front positions and midfield. I know he's the one Ole wanted to replace Pogba. Could we possibly get Grealish and then Pogba to make the move away next season?

Thanks for all of the great content from Ed002 for the past however many years.

I don't think the club or Ole sees Grealish as a Pogba replacement. Ed2 has mentioned multiple times the club saw Grealish as a versatile player who could cover multiple roles. Whether the signing of Don ends our interest in JG or not that I don't know but I don't think JG can play on the RW as effectively so I would think we may not move for him now.

he wasnt being looked at for replacing pogba. that was saul. but with pogba staying grelish was still being looked at as he offers something different to bruno

but for the price villa want we should stay well clear, he's not even that good. an upgrade on lingard.

DVDB is much better than Grealish with Champions League experience and comes with no baggage.

Saul and SMS were touted as possible Pogba replacement.

4.) 03 Sep 2020 12:36:10
Was Donny VDB not also touted as a Pogba replacement?

Or maybe we praise and criticise Matt Judge amd leave Ed out of it altogether.

Ed's . There have been recent links with pedro and sanchez from Barcelona. just wondering if you know if either of them are actually available or is it subject to how they do in the world cup to potentially impress the new manager? I like both players and think a possible from 3 of rvp, januzaj and one of those two would be pretty good!

Many thanks

{Ed002's Note - Barcelona will listen to significant offers for Pedro. Manchester City, Arsenal and Manchester United are known to have enquired with his agent in recent months. PSG has spoken with Barcelona about the player last summer and in January. So there is really very little right now. It would not be a surprise to see interest from Liverpool if someone were to leave.

There has been some interest from Manchester United, Juventus and Arsenal. Barcelona will be willing to let Sanchez move on and would be open to using him in a player exchange deal. There have been discussions Juventus in respect of Sanchez and there is no secret that his agent has confirmed that they would be willing to meet the terms that the player desires. However, they are far from agreeing a figure with Barcelona for the sale - very far indeed. Barcelona will be willing to let Sanchez move on for a very significant fee or would be open to using him in a player exchange deal. Barcelona were looking to replace Fabregas with Vidal and were looking to that as an option whilst there is such a difference between what is being asked and what is being offered. However, with talks dragging on and Juventus wanting to keep Vidal their attention shifted from Vidal to Koke and then to Rakitic. There remains the thought that Sanchez might be offered as part of a deal for Suarez.}

Hi guys and ed's. Just a quick one . . does anyone know if there is genuine interest in cuadrado or is it all speculation? Also I understand that the vidal deal may not happen. just Wondering if there is any alternatives at this stage?

Thanks all have a good day!

Sharky07

1.) Everything is speculation at this stage as the club aren't telling the media anything, also it looks as thought strootman will be the one we go for if Vidal is unobtainable

In this 3412 formation that LvG wants to play the most vital positions on the pitch are the wing backs. They provide the width going forward and cover against teams getting around our defence. Not only is it key to making the whole system work, but it is also the most physically demanding role you can play in football.

With this in mind and with our recent signing of Luke Shaw one flank looks covered yet there isn't really a stand out candidate for the right flank.

Valencia looks to be struggling both defensively and is very limited going forward.

Rafael is continuing to have fitness problems and it looks like he will struggle with the physical demands of the position.

Young has looked good in pre-season but it is far from a natural position for him. He may struggle against top class opposition in a highly competitive league.

So we are in need of a player who has the physical attributes and the technical ability to own the right flank and add balance to our team. So the potential signing of Cuardado would make sense. He combines Valencia's speed and strength with excellent work rate and fantastic technique and a very good understanding of the game. Further more there are few players who have played as a proper wing back, most of the people we could target will either be more attack minded full backs or defensive wingers. The wing back position is quite specialist and very few people have mastered it. Cuardado has played in that position a lot over the last few years and is the stand out candidate for that position.

So with all that in mind I would expect us to be on his trail, and certainly push the boat out for his signature.

As for Vidal? I expect us to push for him all summer. I can see two things that look to make this a drawn out affair. The first apparently LvG wants to make sure he has fully recovered before we sign him, as a result he will probably want to see him play a game or two for Juve before pushing through a deal. He can't have a crocked marqee signing. The second is Juve will want the deal to go down to the wire so as they don't have time to reinvest the money. They will sign players prior to agreeing the sale, but if they sell him first not only will they have to pay more for the players they sign but their fans will expect a marqee signing to replace Vidal. Juve have spent the last few years signing player who they can make into top stars rather than signing the top stars much like ourselves. I don't see them moving away from this type of business model. So it suits them for the deal to happen as late as possible.

So with all that in mind I would be cautious of putting all our eggs in one basket. I would sign Cuardado a CB and Daley Blind who can cover the left wing back position, centre midfield and the left centre back position. Then if the Vidal deal falls through at least we will have Blind as cover and competition in midfield.

Great Post Shappy.

4.) The last three lines a the best of the post any I would totally agree

5.) I am a huge fan of Cuadrado. We have seen in preseason that the wingbacks get space to play when we switch. Cuadrado will help us to play with more tempo, and he is clever going forward, individually and in combining. And his energy could be vital when we try to press out of midfield.

Hi ED's.
I know the stories have been done to death reference Carvalho and Vidal. and I know we all know there is interest in both.
Do you think it is possible we may be aiming for both if we can sort out reasonable costs?
Just a though as Carvalho is a true DM and Vidal is more of a box to box.
Many thanks

Good job on here by the way everyone. Really nice to have other people who are as interested in this stuff as me!!

Sharky07

{Ed004's Note - I am not sure. If you listen to the media it seems we are. A midfield of Carvalho, Vidal and Herrera would be fantastic but what about the likes of Mata, Kagawa, Januzaj, Rooney etc? Unless we play Mata and Januzaj as wingers. Doesn't make sense IMO. I would guess that we will go for Vidal and then probably Strootman next January or next summer as LvG rates him highly. I'm hoping for Hummels, Vidal and Sanchez. Though I wouldn't be surprised if it was Indi, Carvalho and Di Maria}

1.) I doubt it very much that it will be Vidal and Carvalho. One midfielder, one CB, one quick forward player I think we will go for, but it doesn't mean that's how it will pan out of course.

2.) 05 Jul 2014 13:20:21
Edoo4 I agree a mid field of carvalho, vidal and herrera is the stuff of dreams, I think if we get sanchez rooney will be suplus to requirements as sanchez can play very effectively through the middle too, and if we were to sign de maria Kagawa would be surplus to requirements, there will have to be some balancing of the books and the 3 assets we have that can deliver decent income are kagawa, fellani and rooney prob over 60m there. whereby, clev ando young nani evra woud command about 20m between them. getting that 80m in would allow us to sign carvalho and CB and vidal and sanchez for a combined 120m + the 60 spend leaving a net spend of 80m 6 players in + wilson lingard keane. with the 8 there plus rio giggs and vidic leaving

{Ed004's Note - The only players we could get decent money for would be Fellaini, Nani, Kagawa, Rooney and Hernandez and as long as they are replaced none of them bar Rooney are big misses from last season. And Rooney has been replaced already}

3.) Get both. Dominant midfield with Carvalho, Herrera, and Vidal. Let the rest take care of itself.
One week we can play 4-3-3 with wingers, another week we can play diamond MF with Mata behind Rooney and Van Persie.

4.) 05 Jul 2014 14:19:24
agreed Ed

Hi guy's/ed's hope you are all well!

With Marco Reus coming out with today's comments and seemingly staying with dortmund . Does anyone know of any other left midfield options we are looking at?

I think we will all agree that Ashley young is not good enough to play for United anymore and nani is likely to leave.

Many thanks in advance and looking forward to some activity/ a mass clear out :)

I personally hope Lucas Moura is worth a punt, he's still only 21 and has all the qualities to be an instant hit with us similar to them lot 30 miles down the road with another Brazilian. I feel like I'm clutching at straws hoping for him to be available but I can't see it happening

2.) 12 May 2014 20:13:35
I'd look at Roberto Firmino who I think could have a huge season next season, if he moves to a top club.

Last summer I put forward the name Antione Griezmann and said I felt he would have a great season, so my tip for next season is Firmino. let's see if i'm right again. Lol.

3.) Ashley young was never good enough. Di Maria if we can't get reus
