Interesting media reports that we might buy Vlar and Delph from Villa in January. Both of them apparently out of contract at the end of the season.

Welsh Paulo

1.) I don't think either would be a bad move. But I am sure we can do better than Vlaar. Delph as a good young English squad player though.

2.) I am a massive fan of delph, but I'd steer clear of Vlaar, defensively average, slow, and shocking on the ball.

3.) I wouldn't be ecstatic with this but wouldn't be unhappy either. Vlaar has done ok under LVG in the past, not greatest in the world but would be useful cover esp with young Paddy out now (although will be back by Jan). Def short at the back. Price seems steep if true

4.) Vlar is sensible. Delph, why would we want more squad players for our midfield, whoever we buy in there needs to be top class?

5.) Beast, I think we need one more 'top class' addition and then we do need to upgrade on the squad players in there because at the minute we only have Fletcher, Powell, (Cleverley), Anderson and Carrick.

Media rumours that we are to bid £55m for Di Maria. They must be having a laugh!

Welsh Paulo

1.) 09 Aug 2014 10:55:30
What an absolute waste of money that would be! Hope it's bs

2.) Hes too inconsistant, similar to nani in my opinion, wouldn't want his at united. Especially at the price!

3.) Best player in champs league final gets a lot of assist natural left footed can play part of a 3 in midfield and as a winger quick why not better than what we have!

4.) Too poor defensively to be any good as a wingback, and not as good through the middle as Mata, or probably Kagawa either.

He's good out wide on either side, but even if we were using wingers, I'd rather have someone who isn't so one-footed, as it makes him more predictable.

Waste of money.

5.) Would be a goon addition once we move to 433 but in our current shape he would have to play the Mata role.
Depends on what van Gaals plans are

6.) Apparently Real Madrid are extremely keen to move Di Maria on, so I wonder how much of the media speculation about him is being generated by RM?

7.) 09 Aug 2014 23:21:34
That price tag is ridiculous and he can't defend, If we sold nani and got him for 25m ok but I'd still rather see januzaj play

Rumours that Wesley Sjneider has not been paid by his Turkish club and is looking for a move to the Premier League. Is this a road we've been down before!!!!

Welsh Paulo

1.) It is a road we have been down before on several occasions. The last 1 being yesterday 2 posts down.

2.) I don't want this to happen. But do you think LVG sees some value in selling Mata and replacing him with Sneijder? Obviously he won't mind the bench and is not going to stagnate Januzaj or Perreira as much, he is coming to the end - he also knows the LVG system properly.

With Rooney certain to start, it leaves Mata not getting many games and a diminishing value. It may be why Sneijder keeps cropping up.

More likely to be nothing in it and it could be lazy media with boring Internationals, but LVG may be following this type of thinking - who knows.

Paulo,

I am thinking there wasn't even any irony in the spelling of his name either? Please let's not have this again.

Amazing to remember that not that long ago Solskjaer was being suggested by some as a Utd manager. Now Cardiff are sacking him, after a dismal set of results, lucky he didn't come to us!

Welsh Paulo

1.) Mutual termination is hardly sacking

2.) 18 Sep 2014 15:38:29
Ole is better than being suggested, I think top players find it hard going into jobs as a manager where the level is something they are not used to, ala Roy Keane.

3.) Ole is a top bloke. Clough was sacked by Leeds and many others have had poor spells. Wrong club, wrong time

4.) Chris there are some exceptions to your assertion . Kenny Dalglish, Franz Beckenbauer, Mario Zagallo, Pep Guardiola, Johan Cruyff, and a few others

Really looks as if Vidal is this seasons Sneijder, never mind he is 27. Just hope we don't lose out on Carvalho who might be able to fill the gap we undoubtedly have in our midfield.

Welsh Paulo

1.) Blind and Carvalho would be excellent signings for the long term future of the club

28 Aug 2014 21:55:27
Reports from the Italian press that Juve have turned down a €43 offer from Utd for Vidal. We will now bid for Carvalho.

Welsh Paulo

1.) I've been saying for a while now that I believe Carvalho fits what LVG wants more than Vidal, and while I'm not stupid enough to say I wouldn't want a world class star like Vidal, I will say that I won't be terribly disappointed if we get Carvalho instead. Now if we get neither. .

2.) Its a no brainer.
Vidal - 43mill or Carvalho AND De Jong(for instance) - less than 43 mill.
Would love to see Vidal at UTD but Carvalho fits the bill just as much for me.

3.) Carvalho as a package will be much cheaper than Vidal. He's only on a grand a week at Sporting. MU could probably get him to agree to £25k a week. Vidal would be on 6-8 times that amount.

I'd take Cuadrado/Hummels and Carvalho over Blind and Vidal (who MU are heavily linked to).

4.) Tbh I'd take both of them ( Vidal and Carvalho) rid cleverly, ando and put Fletcher as 5th choice behind Carrick. So Herrera, Vidal and Carvalho in MF, should injuries then carrick/ fletcher.

Hi Ed002, some people seem to be saying that we are not closing the deal for Vidal because it's a lot of money and there would be little sell on value. Is that really a consideration for a player who is 27 and could give us 5/6 good years in midfield?

Welsh Paulo

{Ed002's Note - It is nothing to do with that.}

Great player as he is Ronaldo will be 30 in February and his combined transfer fee and wages of approx £300,000 per week would be hard to justify.

Strootman a certain target. Whether Rome want to sell is another matter. Some media saying Johnny Evans to be sold to help fund January buys.

Hi Ed002, do you happen to know who is representing us in Monacco later this week?

Welsh Paulo

{Ed002's Note - There is a third-party who I suspect is doing it. We will see later but I don't see it as important.}

He's managing director at Ajax and may be talking about Blind.

RM allegedly turned down offer for Di Maria of €48 from Barcelona. He's a good player but never worth that much!

Benzema is a clever footballer but lacks pace, reminds me, in many ways of Berbatov.

Seems to have achieved an excellent transformation into a very good midfield player, perhaps his days as a striker are behind him. Will pose an interesting selection dilemma when all our injured return.
Strong performance, also from Ashley Young, a real challenge to Shaw for that position.

No midfield, my comment on Rooney was not about his playing abilities but whether, as captain, he can exert composure and control. Personally I don't think he can.

Good analysis. I thought Raphael was excellent tonight. We've yet to see the best of Shaw/Falcao/RVP this season but that will come. Still a worrying lack of composure and leadership, not sure Rooney will bring this when he returns.
