Great post by Damon 86 further down about Baines comment and think Red Man summons up how most of us feel about things right now. let's have more debates like that instead of if you had £200m to spend!

Acker

1.) Acker

The Baines comments are also interesting because it is well known Moyes wanted Baines yet in the summer window Baines didn't really push for a transfer to us. I speculate but perhaps one reason was that he quickly bought into the Martinez vision and Baines comments now vindicate why he didn't push last summer. I also wonder if Fellaini saw the writing on the wall in terms of what the change in style of play may mean to him which together with a desire to play for us promoted him to push for the move.
Everton players seem to have bought into Martinez style far more than ours into Moyes.

2.) Every time we play a decent team he brings out Young and Valencia on the wings to protect the fullbacks. instead of worrying about the other teams players let them worry about ours.

3.) When you have our fullbacks you need to protect them
as for letting the other team worry about our players the problem is they don't because due to our midfield they know they can control possesion and starve our attacking players of the ball

4.) You lot are really clutching at straws Moyes is the Manager he is the right choice even if you lot don't think it now and Baines never put in a transfer request because he is Everton Through and Through but if they did accept our offer he would of jumped at the chance and the debate is not if we have 200m we have as much as we need could be more could be less but we are going to sign a lot of top players I can't wait to watch you guys eat humble pie its every opportunity to slag the club the manager and the players would not want to be in the trenches with you lot that's for sure

5.) Baines is actually a big Liverpool fan, the reason he didn't put in a TR is because he was glad to finally be rid of Moyes's negative tactics.

6.) Most of you need to grow up and get on with life and taking things out of context to suit your argument is silly.

I agree Roberto Martinez just plays his way of football and this is the same manager who would sit there and watch his teams at Wigan get hammered 6-0 8-0 and some embarrassing scores without changing things and had them every year in a relegation tussle and finally they got relegated.

IMO the 2 managers are not even comparable and moyes is miles ahead of him. Martinez inherited a good team and had 3 or 4 high quality additions to it.

Go watch some football, have a beer and stop being so bitter about life.

7.) Baines is a boyhood Everton fan. It's a common myth that he is a Liverpool fan.

8.) Katef

What is the basis of your assertion that Moyes is the right choice? Someone said so or facts? Please enlighten us?

9.) The reason Baines isn't a United player now is because United didn't want to pay silly money on a 28/29 year old full back. If he was 23/24 he would be in red this season. It doesn't matter what he says now, he is Everton captain and will continue to say all the things the people around Everton want to hear. I would much rather splash the money wanted for Baines plus a bit more for Shaw.

10.) Brendan

I agree to an extent on Baines, I said last year it was far too much to spend on a left back of his age and was not unhappy we didn't buy him. I also championed Shaw last summer as a better choice. The interesting point is our manager was desperate to get Baines but unlike Fellaini Baines made no push to get the move which you should reasonably have expected to continue playing for the same manager at a bigger club on better wages. Baines comments recently are damning on Moyes style. Martinez is not a manager for us at this point due to lack of experience at the top level but his style is more United style than Moyes.

Constantly read that our club will be spending up £200m this summer! As I understood it, it was £150m over the first 18mths given that Moyes as spent nearly half of that already then can't see the 7 world class players coming. Wonder if one of the eds could clarify not to put you guys on the spot?

Acker

1.) I think with the way this season panned out we may get more than the £150 million total, maybe as much as £150 million on top of the money for Mata and Fellaini.

2.) I would not read too much into stories saying we have X amount to spend. We're a big club with the necessary finances to complete deals (as we've shown with Mata in particular). If the right players are available then we will always look to buy them. Of course the dream scenario is that the players we want show a desire to move to us and we can agree terms with, firstly, the club and, secondly, the player.

Speculating about figures is pointless. and i'll tell you why, let's say the Glazers allocate 100 million to spend and by the last week of the transfer window we've spent 95 million. then up pops Arturo Vidal saying he wants a move and that Juventus will sell for 40 million, you think we'd let that opportunity slip? Of course not. Let them get on with negotiations behind the scenes and wait to see how it plays out.

3.) I think IF Moyes is still manager way less and now rumour has it we are going to offer Evra a new contract, if that happens we are proper Dutch ovened

4.) I doubt there is a 'budget' - I would say that if the money needs spending it's there for the right player. We need to be sensible though, someone like Garay for £18 million is a much better bet than Mangala for somewhere in the £30's.

5.) Fresh, maybe Benatia for around £20-25 million would be an even better option, and even for £30+ million, at 23 Mangala would be a sound investment.

6.) I doubt we'll spend money on the basis that the player is 'available'. Taking that approach we won't get the players we desperately need. We need a transition and we need top players.

7.) Benatia is a very good player, I have my doubts about Mangala, he has never impressed me.

As poster start spending £200m on world class players like some well known computer game it is worth remember that Moyes as already spent a large chunk of that report £150m - £200m budget.
Given we will be competing with all the teams that finishing above along with the best of Europe are poster happy with targets looks Colman and shaw ( should Chelsea not sign him)

Acker

1.) I think he will have plenty to spend, funds won't be a problem, it will be whether or not teams like Madrid poach the ones we want.

2.) I think we have a great chance to sign some top class players this year. Barcelona are banned, and even if they appeal, they haven't got a massive budget. Real Madrid obviously have a huge budget as always but they want Aguero or Suarez. Liverpool are not going to spend loads, due to their policy and budget and whatnot. Arsenal are unlikely to sign big names due to no Champions League football and a comparatively small budget, Everton are unlikely to sign any big names due to a small budget. Chelsea are primarily after a striker, which only really leaves City, Bayern and PSG as big transfer rivals. Big summer ahead.

With all the talk that Moyes with be with us in the summer and have £200m to spend just wondered if like me people believe there will be a danger of what happened at city under Hughes. By this I mean having worked with a tight budget suddeningly having a lot of money going out and paying over the odds with sky high wages just to attract players because of no CL.
Then stuck with these players on our wage bill!

Acker

1.) I don't think we will buy crap like Hughes did.

2.) Fresh Hope you are right though his record so far with united would suggest otherwise. Mata is class but we have paid way over the odds for him and espicially big wig!

3.) Fellaini is the answer why Moyes is not to be trusted with that money.

Having just read Shappys war and peace and recent post about regarding preventing city or Liverpool winning the title there seems to many on here have forgot less than 10 months ago we were a top team not some mid table wanna be.
If we lose tonight let's at least play like united with pride and style and not worry about always goals etc

Acker

1.) At no point in my last post did I mention anything to do with City or Liverpool. My post was purely about how we get past the beast that is the current Bayern Munich side.

In my mind there are only two teams in world football who could stand toe to toe with this Bayern side and feel that they could come away with the win and they are Real Madrid who are probably man for man as good as Bayern although they lack some of the team spirit Bayern have, and Barcelona who man for man are probably slightly inferior but have a much tighter team play and focus.

Other than them every other team will have to box clever to have any chance of beating Bayern.

There is no point in being gung ho and throwing our place in the competition away just so we can stick true to playing the "United" way, our current squad and confidence has put a stop to us playing in that manner.

We have next to no chance of getting a UCL place next season by finishing in forth place or higher in the league, but we still have an outside chance of qualifying by being the reigning champions of Europe. let's no throw that away.

2.) Worse teams than us have got points from Bayern Barcelona Madrid Atletico let's go down fighting guys or at least be in it going to Munich

3.) Shappys I did say recent post refer to city and Liverpool not your post. I don't disagree with your tactics my point is we are one of the biggest clubs in Europe but in 10 months we now look on big matches as a face saving exercise such as been the decline in our club in that time.

4.) My post wasn't about saving face either, it was a sensible view on how to give ourselves the best chance of getting through the tie with a positive result.

I'd rather win the tie 1-0 on aggregate then lose it 5/6-0 by being to gungho.

5.) Shappy

You missed PSG, they can match up man to man better than the teams you mentioned.

I for one have enjoyed the debate over whether Benteke would be a good signing for us. He is only 22 and had one season in the Pl so guess both sides of the argument are right however didn't the article say he would the type of powerful forward to replace Rooney should he be sold? So hoping we don't need to bid for him Jan.
I agree with MrSeen we need players who will to create more chances

Agree we need a CB unlikely to get of quality in Jan. For me the manager needs to get the best out of the current squad first isn't that what makes a great manager? LVG has fail to do this in the first part of the season we can only hope we start to see real Man Utd in the second part!

Fan of mark Hughes but unfortunately his time at City and the Fulham situation spoilt his reputation, remember Stoke fans protesting at his appointment! Agee very good manager.
