Slowly coming to the fact that we won't sign any quality this summer, I'm normally a very optimistic person too haha

GortonRed

1.) Is it only me that thinks Moyes was appointed manager because he did wonders with Everton on a shoestring budget. This is what the Glazers want. We are being taken for mugs by them. Don't think any big signings are coming at all. We will end up with Fellaini. God help us.

2.) SAF chose Moyes, someone who is down to earth and good keeping drama out of the press with his comments, while taking no sh!t. He was at Everton for 11 years, that's important for a club like us. Most foreign managers will get bored and lose motivating after 4-5 years and want to move giving us this horrible transition all over again. In the last 10 years he's won manager of the season 3 times, SAF won it 4 times so do you really think he's not good enough. Breaks my balls that so many people are so impatient. It might take him a few seasons to really get into it just like it did with SAF but after 10 years we'll look back and say it was the best decision. Have patients is all I can say. Get behind the new man just like SAF told you to. He obviously knew it wouldn't be easily for him at first but over a long period of time he'll be a great success.

Ozwald

3.) Sorry that was mainly aimed at Robo66, not you GortonRed.

Ozwald

4.) Bang on the money Ozwald!

5.) The world of football was a much different place when SAF took over. Back then managers had time but the financial burdens clubs are under make it impossible to allow a team like United to take a few seasons to settle back into a winning groove. Everyone knows that there are some weaknesses in our first team. I hope Moyes can fix those weaknesses but so far he's not showing an ability to do so. I'm not so convinced he'll get the time you want him to have. If changing managers every 4-5 years brings success, I'm ok with that. Times change!

6.) Here's a point Ozwald forgot to mention. Fergie didn't take hold of a premier league winning squad now did he. therefore being impatient with moyes almost justified

7.) Its the same every summer. The excuses vary but the outcome is always the same. The big signings never quite make it to OT, and we then become a team for the future with bargain basement kids, who then take little or no part in our season, usually loaned out. what's the point? aren't we supposed to be improving the team NOW??
Theres no value in the market, but Chelsea and City find them! Now it will be 'Well we tried but didn't get the players we wanted' etc etc etc
Every year the Glazers screw down the spending so they can use the money to pay debts. SAF was the difference, but now he's gone. Moyes won't be able to perform that kind of magic. Time to sell the silver polish!

hi everyone, my friend suggested this page and I have been a regular visitor for nearly a month now. A lot of people have gone crazy lately and I just had to register to give them a piece of my mind.

Firstly Manchester United are a football club not willing to pay astronomical fees for a player, agreed we have paid a lot for some players in the past but the current trend is just ridiculous and not in line with the current united philosophy.

The talk of insufficient funds is uncalled for. Teams at the back of poor seasons spend and will continue to do so. Last year we were the talk of the window because we had to spend and so bang RVP JOINS UNITED. City and Chelsea have spent because according to them they had poor seasons. You cannot judge that city or for that matter any other bpl club has a better squad than us because at the end of the day its the team and the result. On paper city and che both looked better last season and look what happened. Manchester United can have a weaker team on paper but as a team we just come out better.

Moyes is looking for a young and exiting team which reflects his football. I don't blame him for that and he every right to do so.

de gea
evra/fabio/rafael/buttner
jones/vidic/ferdi/smalling/evans
nani/zaha/kagawa/carrick/valencia/anderson/fellaini/ adnan
rooney/rvp/chicha/welbeck

will be a quality team and if moyes work his magic and adds another player to the above list. We can challenge on all fronts and kick a lot of ass.

GGMU

9.) He's been in 5 minutes and already there's talk of him being replaced. Fickle or what?

I'd rather have Moyes and a trophy every two years than mourinho and the league every season. Give him a chance for fecks sake. Or feck off and support Chelsea.

Great post Ozwald btw.

10.) I agree Robo66.

I said it when I just found out who we were appointing to be our manager. The Glazers want someone who will be their muppet and help save some money here and there. Slate me if you'll want doesn't matter to me but to think that you people are all so blinded by your rose tinted glasses its a joke. I'm MORE THAN HAPPY to say I was wrong should I be proved so. So far i'm correct.

diego

11.) I visit this site quite regularly but never comment. However I have gained some unbeleivable information on the transfer front. Haven't left any of my details as if I did my source/mate would get in serious trouble. My best mates brother is part of Rio Ferdinand's PR and Media team and has been since he moved to United. He has confirmed that Cristiano Ronaldo will be present and Old Trafford tomorrow night and will discuss a lucrative package to come back. Talks will be held with senior executives at Manchester United and senior board members of General Motors and Nike. If United and sponsors can come to an agreement with Ronaldo over image rights and other details of his overall potential package United will submit a formal bid to Real Madrid as early as Friday with Moyes getting plenty of TV coverage over the weekend with the charity shield to put on the pressure in the press. This will be dressed up as Ronaldo agreeing to join up in 2 seasons time but a bid will be submitted this season if he gives the green light. The same source also confirmed that the Fabregas saga was all a smoke screen with barca more than happy to help united get Ronaldo back as it would massively weaken Madrid. Ronaldo also met The united owners in the Norfolk Royal Hotel in Bournemouth on the evening of the 19th of July to express an interest in playing for the club again and was seen drinking in a bar later

12.) Excellent post Ozwald.

What happened to the old saying "you don't win anything with kids"?

Look at lingard, januzaj, zaha, m keane and w keane coming through. I'd b more than happy seeing them given the chance to develop into 1st team squad members, let's remember what Manchester United as a football club means rather than get caught up with this "football manager" way some fans have.

Matt Belfast

13.) I hope your not full of it mate. Hope your right but I can't see it. The glazers won't spend the money. All united is to them is a gravy train. And their milking it.

14.) Ronaldo doesn't drink so your story has holes. Man United aren't going to pay Madrid back the 80 million. You're living in a fairlytale. I haven't got a clue who United will sign this window, but I sure as hell know it won't be Ronaldo.

United should get luis Gustavo to add defensive capability to the midfield, and give zaha, januzaj and other youth the less important games yo develop. We lost pogba because of lack of Faith, real kick in the *** seeing as he'd be perfect for the midfield now! We can win trophies being a tight, compact team, not just a team of over-paid mercenaries like Madrid or the French teams.

RedBrenno

15.) Would love to believe the cr7 stuff but its very difficult to do so. I have plenty of time for moyes but a lot has been made about the quality of our squad and while we did win the league last year it is clear that this was achieved by the complete hopeletvess of our opposition and the guidance of fergie. Our midfield is well below standard. Carrick is not the world beater that everyone seems to be conned into believing. Remember the 2 champions league finals against barca. Now can u remember carrick, exactly. Can't understand the pursuit of Fabregas, seeing its been clear he was never coming. Now, there are so many midfielders we can go for. So for god sake let's get 3 or 4 players in as soon as we can

16.) Top post Ozwald
Mik

17.) What we need to do is bring in the youth, forget playing like a passing team like barca, what we bar need is to bring in youth get the British feel back in and bring back the old English style of football distributing the other team from playing and hitting them hard on the counter attack, we should of kept tunniclife as he is what we need a little terrier who is not afraid to tackle but can up the pace instantly, js English football would benefit from the return of hard tackles and real men not this persons who go over from a strong breeze

18.) RedBrenno I know Ronaldo doesn't drink he does it for the same reason as why he has no tattooes because he gives blood religiously. He was in a bar having a drink not necessarily an alcoholic one. The bar was 1812 in Bournemouth I saw him in there with my own eyes. Anyways unbelievably good sorce I think you will be a happy man come the end of the week.

19.) Have you not yet come to the conclusion that the reason MD was made manager which was to bring on the young players?
Red Baron

20.) RedBrenno, whilst I agree that CR7 won't be coming to OT who said you can only drink alcohol in a bar?

What is with all the hate surrounding Mata recently? By far a better No.10 than Rooney is IMO

GortonRed

1.) Gorton

It isn't hate at all but there are questions around Mata's pace which is exposed when he has RVP and Rooney around him. It makes us slow in transitioning the ball back to front and Mata needs some pace around him. DiMaria is there now but is it enough to give Mata the outlets he needs?
Mata is a very good player, like Kagawa but he has to have the right players around him to succeed. Mourinho had a different vision and shifted him despite being player of the year twice. We didn't need another number 10 but we bit at £37m so now he needs pace around him in my opinion to get the best out of him.

2.) I have said before that Mata is a great little player, but we do need that zip in the attack so he will only suit certain games. I still think he will start many games and play in nearly all of them when fit, but will still be a quality player for us. He's on relatively low wages if the rumours are correct. He cost us £40m this year so unless a very high offer came in for him, he will be here for a while. We need 14 top notch players. 11 players and 3 subs. The rest can be youth and fringe players. There is room for Mata. He's a nice lad and will not kick up a fuss when not selected. Would people prefer Anderson on the bench or Mata?

Would just like to ask everyone - Do you expect Giggs to replace LvG as manager at the end of 2 years? Personally, I would rather van Gaal stick around for a further 3 years after his initial contract, then give Giggs the job. I think 5 years under van Gaal's guidance would be enough for Giggs to be a good replacement but if Klopp was to become available I would go all out for him to take the reigns. Everyone's opinion welcome. Cheers.

GortonRed

1.) I would rather gamble on Gary Neville than Giggs. Some of his comments and decisions have been ludicrous and aside from his dedication to the club I don't find him appealing, not clever enough for me and far too clicky, which shows a lack of back bone which is a crucial factor at this level.

In 5 years who knows, but if Giggs can be groomed by LVG to be United material he could groom a great many more in less time.

Also - LVG says he wants his players to be all round good guys not just on the pitch etc, what must he think of Giggsy's off field exploits (not having a go at Giggs the footballer, but Giggs the loyal man and manager leave a lot to be desired imo)?

2.) Giggs is expected to replace LvG in three years. Not sure it will work out, but it's the plan.

{Ed002's Note - I am not sure the new owners would agree with that Syd.}

3.) I would see how the LvG era pans out. In business succession planning is important so LvG will give an opinion on Giggs fairly soon to the powers that be and when the time is right. My concern is that Giggs had 4 games but didn't do anything different, didn't show tactical acumen beyond the norm. I think if he had shown the ability to think differently I might be more favourable towards him. I know people say x years learning from LvG will be great but a lot of the leadership and ability to make a difference comes from within, it isn't taught.
As things stand Klopp is a stand out candidate, but let's see where we are in 2 years. We also need an understanding of the size of the role. It is a massive role and Giggs himself was overawed by it. He is a person who could grow but I am not convinced yet that he will grow enough. Time will tell, at the moment Klopp for me, as things stand.

4.) We shouldn't be taking a gamble on any manager, regardless of their history with the club. If Giggs wants to manage a top club, he needs to prove that he is capable of managing a lesser club first.

5.) Syd, where do you get this stuff from?

6.) New owners 002?

{Ed002's Note - 2017.}

7.) AJH, it came from SAF, but I am more interested to know who our new owners will be?

{Ed002's Note - With the debt exit and a potential peak in current value everything is looking at 2017 as a change of ownership. It suits the extant owners and gives time to finalise the way forward. A company in Jersey has provided a staggered disposal plan for a number of First Allied assets including the club.}

8.) 03 Aug 2014 20:03:03
We need a top manager, amd in modern football that isn't the guy who barks orders from the side line but a thinker.

You need to be a student of football, someone who is interested in looking at what other have done and how they can learn from it. People like Klopp, Pep and Roberto Martinez would be my choices ahead of Giggs at this moment. And although van Gaal is probably one of the best teachers, Giggs needs to want to learn. Also nothing helps you learn faster than actual experience, something Giggs isn't going to get by being LvG's assistant.

9.) Wow, This is shocking news, don't know if this is for the good of the club oe not.

10.) That's why I didn't get sucked into this £200 million rebuild! I can't see the current owners spending big money when they will be looking to cash in on their investment in the coming years! 3 years is worrying. Change of ownership and manager all at once. could seriously destabilise the club!

11.) Thanks for that Ed. Can I ask will the new owners buy MU without borrowing money? I couldn't deal with another leveraged buyout and I don't think the rest of the fans could either.

{Ed002's Note - It is too early to say but with the business being worth so much, institutional owners seem far more likely than anything else.}

12.) Ed, who do you, personally, think May be interested? It will be a huge amount of money. Is it likely to be a consortium or some oil rich guy who wants a play thing? Just your personal thoughts, obviously no one knows for sure. As bad as people think the Glazers have been, I would worry what may happen with new owners. There would be no guarantees of more money for players, would they want to change things that are important to the fans i.e. the Old Trafford name etc. Better the devil you know, as they say.

{Ed002's Note - I would think institutional owners remain the most likely scenario.}

13.) Boca - given the caveats in the Adidas deal it incentives the owners to ensure that we are back competing for titles. The more money that's invested in the club the; more the share price will rise and the more the club will be worth.

14.) Thanks ed.

15.) I see red! Speculate to accumulate is what your saying?. makes sense, but obviously it's going to be controlled spending like Ed suggests rather than splashing the cash like most fans on here want!

16.) 03 Aug 2014 22:24:26
Are we to expect new owners at some point over the next three seasons?

17.) 03 Aug 2014 22:24:40
I don't expect Giggs to be the next manager.
Ed002 what do you mean by new owners?

18.) I'd would like to think giggs could do it. It worried me a bit if it's true he would have kept rio on because he was gone . It seemed job for the boys which would have been wrong. Like Fergie and van gaal it seems, you need to be cold about things you can't have mates on the team. If he doesn't learn that then he is not right for the job .

19.) 04 Aug 2014 06:50:54
wow I think if this site was twitter it would of just blown up bit time, major bombshell doled out by Ed002 there! were all sat here scrambling for info on vidal hummels and anyone else who might be joining and ed goes and sends us all into meltdown by bringing out the big guns not cool ed not cool this is a transfer window and were united fans its hard enough as it is! in all seriousness just wow! so casual as well that will show us not to mess with Ed002 again (if we didn't already know that)

20.) 04 Aug 2014 07:36:47
I expect Ed002 hit the nail on the head further up in that we will buy players the manager thinks we need rather than just buying players because those we want aren't available. A great strategy - assuming we're able to attract the players the manager thinks we need.

21.) 04 Aug 2014 14:27:04
Ed002, if that's true, and I've no reason to doubt you, then the saga of who we get this summer, and who goes, sort of pales into insignificance.

22.) 03 Aug 2014 22:25:53
Ed002, is it possible they could float all of the club on the NYSE? Thanks.

{Ed002's Note - It is possible but does not need to be New York.}

08 Aug 2013 22:25:21
People need to get behind David Moyes and stop blaming him for our lack of transfer activity, apart from RvP, the past few seasons have seen us left short on the big name signing we all want, unfortunately every footballer doesn't think like us fans. We would do anything to play for united, I would even play for nothing. Maybe we haven't signed players because they don't want to play for united. Most foreigners dream of playing for Barca or Madrid I. e Fabregas, CR7. The list goes on. Don't get me wrong I would love to have players like thematic our club but what if they don't want to, nothing we can do about it, except look for other targets or persuade them with money - which united traditionally frown upon. I think we will probably sign Fellaini and probably Baines too, I know it's quite a step down from the tiki taka style of thiago and fabregas, but get behind the players. Honestly when we signed evra did you think he would turn out to be the best left back in the world at one point, or when we signed vidic or even when we promoted Evans to starting cb he played unbelievably. My point is give them a chance.

GortonRed

1.) You're right. Non of the big names want to come here as we've developed a reputation for not paying mega money for players.
All the reason why we should have gone for klopp as manager. He can build teams for little outlay and would have fitted into the united way perfectly.
Nomidfield

2.) Klopp would not have been the answere. With the 'talent' he has at Dortmand, coming to United he would had to do a 'fire sale'.

03 Jul 2013 21:16:55
A lot of people may know mike clegg - ex united physio, he owns a gym in Ashton I do go there quite frequently and apparently so he says when rooney went to America a few seasons back it wasn't to get fit, it was to clean his blood with the latest medical technology as his body is full of a hell of a lot of drugs, I wonder if anyone else has heard this rumour, personally I don't believe it. Like to hear what you lot think?

GortonRed

1.) I heard he eats baby's and was behind the banking crisis
Jred

2.) Could explain why he was in the drum and bass tent at Glastonbury at the weekend ; )

3.) And yet you still want him at the club, Jred?!

What will it take, man?

4.) Lol Jred that did crack me up! TBF to GortonRed he stated he doesn't believe it himself.

5.) Steviek
To be honest it would take another season like the one he's just had.
Jred

6.) Doesn't the timing of his Howard Hughes like american visit coincide with his drop in form?
better get him back on the pills and powder!

7.) Jred, another season like that may just cost us our season and this coming season is the most important in a very long time with Moyes taking over. It could make or break or future. That is why we need Rooney to either commit, or p1ss off. Winding down his contract, disrupting the squad is not an option for me. Hopefully it gets sorted before the window shuts or Rooney's greed may well ruin Moyes' reign.

Sydney!

Right, I hate bull as much as the next person so I wouldn't lie, especially if I have an account. Believe it or not I have a friend who does work at united and he said massive things are happening at united, Ronaldo is a definite no go this season, but interestingly according to my mate he's said united are really pushing for
Gareth Bale and he said he's even seen bales agent at carrington himself,
Take it as you like but I can promise this is a mate who actually does work at united. Cheers

GortonRed

1.) Maybe that story of money + welbeck on loan has some legs? After all to sign berbatov we loaned them Campell so maybe just maybe, when you say cr7 is a no go do you think next season we could see him back here?

2.) Honestly don't want Bale at United for the money being quoted, even if Ronaldo doesn't come. I'd rather spend the £50m+ or whatever on Reus and either push hard for Lewandowski or Jovetic. My personal opinion though i'm sure I am in the minority.

Brendan81

3.) How would he recognise Bale's agent?
Steve

4.) 28 Jun 2013 17:16:02
Rooney Nani and some cash for Bale? Would you take it?

5.) I have a friend whos got a sister that's got a boyfriend and his friends mothers sister noes some1 who works at united so I can back him up on this 1

6.) Sharply I'd definatley take that, because they get a winger to replace him and the striker they have been missing for quite some time!

7.) Respect to Gorton red for posting this as a registered user. A club of Utd's size and financial clout should be pushing to sign Bale. I'm fed up of assuming that when it comes to the really expensive transfers only a small number of OTHER clubs are in with a chance.

Shappy, you always pose interesting theoreticals which really make me think. I'd be very happy to see Nani leave however that might happen, but I believe Rooney has a lot still to offer and I'd rather see that from him in a Utd shirt rather than for someone else.

He did have a stinker last season by his standards but he still managed to score 26 goals. I'm hoping he's been stung by the criticism he's received and it will spur him on to get fit and get hungry to prove his doubters wrong.

Of course, I could be wrong and he'll just turn up for pre season a fat, smoking slob.

It's a pivitol time for Rooney and how he responds will tell us what kind of man he is.

Sorry, I digressed slightly. I guess the answer is 'no' Shappy!

8.) Sorry, that's 26 goals and assists last season for Rooney

9.) Id swap Rooney and nani and 20 mill for him he be ace behind rvp swapping as a 3 with Kagawa and thiago

10.) 28 Jun 2013 18:03:43
shappy rooney and nani would be enough that's over fifty millions worth of players. If they asked for cash on top their talking the pish

11.) 28 Jun 2013 18:14:53
Yes Shappy, I'd take that. Throw in Young as well and I'd be made up
DL10

12.) Shappy - absolutely no way - utter insanity.

13.) Sorry Shappy - that "utter insanity" comment was mine - had forgotten to log in.

14.) People seem to forget how good Rooney is! His range if passing is incredible, not far behind scholes imo. He is often sloppy but nothing a kick up the arse can't cure with a strict training schedule. A team with rooney is vastly better than one without!

Ste.

15.) Rooney & Nani for Bale? Deal. Deal of the century in fact. Get rid of one player who's been a great servant but clearly wants a new challenge it has just fallen out with love for the club. As for Nani? My feelings in him are well known but safe to say I'd carry him anywhere in Europe to get rid. I'd see this as a straight swap Rooney for Bale lol.

Totally agree with Kloot here. Fans with short Memory, I haven't forgave Rooney for what he did to the club and sir Alex last time, never will.

I suppose but I thought he had something, didn't fergie say he's one of the most all rounded full backs he's ever seen when he signed? But oh well, if you don't want to play for the club, don't remain here.
