Why do I get the feeling that this could be snieder all over again?

We're signing Sneijder after the bank holiday. Gaitan too if his agent picks up the phone. Strootmans due the following week. Then Woodward turned off Football Manager 2014.

If true, and a massive IF, would be a sensational purchase.

Yeah there's a lot flying around on Twitter about. Some claiming it's done and it will all be confirmed in the next few days but I never believe anythings complete until I see the player holding the shirt at Old Trafford. Would be hell of a signing though if we could get it over the line.

25 May 2019 05:52:21
Would be a sensational signing.
A natural leader and would serve for 10 to 15 years.

He's going to Barcelona read eds previous posts.

Ed has said there is an issue to be relived first before Barcelona sign him. that issue could be anything. Money, personal reasons, agents, playing time guarantees etc.

While I can't help getting excited about the prospect of De Ligt stabilising our defence, we need to remember players have used us in the past to boost their own negotiating power when getting a new contract or putting pressure on a buying club to meet their demands.

I think this is what we are seeing and he will end up at Barca, i judt hope we put a cut off point on it instead of wasting the entire transfer window chasing a player who may have no interest in playing for us.

Agree7 Disagree0

25 May 2019 13:57:37
Even if he doesn't move to barcelona there are probably about 4-5 other clubs that he could go to that would be a better move than us at the moment.

PSG, Juve, Bayern, City etc.

No chance, wages will be insane plus fees etc. Why give a young lad high wages then what does he have to get up for? that's been our main issue lately, signing this lad will carry on the problems.

Agree3 Disagree1

25 May 2019 17:54:34
If we sign De Ligt we need 3-4 other leaders to come in and rip out the bad apples. Otherwise he will be another Daley Blind, no authority so his leadership counts for zero if he is an alien walking into the corrupt nature of our dressing room.

With a few other newcomers he would be immense. Otherwise like Lindelof/ Herrera/ Mata - having the right attitude will count for nothing.

Ed002 put us out of our misery please 😂😂.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of any "done deal".}

26 May 2019 00:20:43
But are all those other teams looking a centre half, DSG?

Agree0 Disagree0

26 May 2019 06:34:18
City - otamendi and kompany are leaving and need to be replaced.

Juve - barzaghli retiring, bonucci and chiellini getting on a bit

Bayern - probably not as much but they are still rebuilding and de ligt is the perfect age for that rebuild.

Griezmann to United links are back

Never saw that coming.

Easy headline to write. Wouldn't touch him with a twenty foot pole.

24 May 2019 16:15:54
Agree I don't want him. Talented player but wants to make documentaries about whether he stays/ leaves.

Agree7 Disagree0

24 May 2019 17:00:04
Hes pretty good at putting that round thing in the net thing.

Something we've been abysmal at for 6 years. Would take him in a heartbeat if there was any chance.

24 May 2019 17:17:08
Because we need another egotistical idiot with a tonne of baggage who's spend every summer doing should I stay or should I go videos. I don't care if he scores a hat trick every game. He's a dressing room liability which is the last thing we need right now.

Rumours we've bid for Dembele at Lyon.

24 May 2019 17:42:48
Yeah Griezmann is world class.
Works his socks off on the pitch.
Again the lack of CL may put the deal off.

Good player, seems a real div. Bigger ego than Ronaldo but without his records.

Who creates a documentary called ‘the birth of a legend’ or whatever it was called.

it would be hilarious if he has no takers.

Quick question, was wondering if any of the eds have heard anything on our reported interest in the Pedro of Fluminense? Thanks in advance.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I would not hold your breath with interest from elsewhere.}

24 May 2019 00:39:51
Thanks ed, assuming the interest is from Real Madrid? I’ve read they apparently had a provisional agreement to sign him last year before a knee injury scuppered the deal.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I can name four sides who have a decalared interest and have spoken with his club.}

24 May 2019 03:50:03
Ed please share in sight. why we are always second or third choice when it comes from buying young talents from Brazil and Argentina? If we target them, it's via other European league.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Culture, food, unattractive part of the country, scouting not a priority etc..}

24 May 2019 12:34:22
I'm not too fussed. Every Argentinian or Brazilian we've signed has flopped. I'd prefer to avoid south Americans in general.

Agree3 Disagree1

24 May 2019 11:45:03
Ed I guess work permits are also an issue with signing Young South American players?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - No more so than they are for other clubs, but yes, players need work permits.}

24 May 2019 13:33:13
Rafael was decent.

24 May 2019 13:43:13
Heinze was not bad as well.
I believe he won player of the year in his first season.

Ed002

Why do you think the North West is so bad?

I share my time between London and Manchester offices and manage partners over all of Europe, I would prefer to live in the North over most of the places I go. London is dirtiest, more homeless, more drug addicts, more crime, more knife attacks, more terrorism.

Barcelona, Madrid, Nice, Paris, Amsterdam, Nordics are all decent and Germany is good, I get the draw but London nope.

Cheshire is nicer than Surrey and just as pretentious. The only advantage I see is flights.

I must say out of all the places work takes me Milan is the biggest dump - parts of that place makes Atherton look nice!

Agree1 Disagree1

{Ed002's Note - Clearly you work in the roughest parts of London and you seem to know very little of the other cities you mention.}

24 May 2019 15:38:52
They are all much of a muchness all these cities. There's the touristy bits, the nice residential parts and holes. Personally I don't care for London I prefer Manchester or Liverpool or Newcastle but that's personal preference. I know people who love London.

Agree1 Disagree0

24 May 2019 16:22:57
Mort that's not quite true, Heinze did well and Romero has never let us down. But I do agree that more often than not they have failed to live up to the hype.

Personally I feel we always do better with Northern European's, Scandinavians and Eastern block. I feel they seem to settle into life in northern England better than those from a Latin background.

Agree1 Disagree0

24 May 2019 17:49:42
Heinze, Rafael, Tevez all did very well for us.

Veron was ok but hard to dislodge Keane and Scholes.

24 May 2019 19:04:14
Utd road, this must be a different London to the one I live in.

Agree1 Disagree0

24 May 2019 19:10:56
The Manchester I live in is a lot different to the one Ed often talks about as well so maybe people are just looking at different parts of the city.

{Ed002's Note - New Hampshire?}
