Ed 002 welcome back to the site, don't know if you have alrady answered it but who were utd target for cb position, were we intrested in otamendi. Did we come close to signing any cb or there was no cb available in which lvg was intrested

{Ed002's Note - Mats Hummels was the primary target, if available - which he wasn't a move to Old Trafford was always going to be unlikely at best, but there was a chance and there was interest in him from Juventus. Godin was also of interest but was unlikely to be available in the summer. Garay would certainly have been an option for the summer - but the club failed to move for him. The likes of Howedes, Virgil van Dijk, Dragovic, Mings, Miranda were considered but only made sense at a much, much lower fees than were being asked or as potentyial future players. Terence Kongolo was possibly the one who got away. Otamendi was of interest to Barcelona, Zenit, Chelsea, Napoli, Manchester City and CSKA before a move to Valencia in January 2014 and a subsequent loan to Atlético Mineiro. As Otamendi has only effectively been playing in Spain since August 2014 a move in January was unlikely - but he was of interest. There has been interest in but if he forces a move from Dinamo Kiev I suspect he will end up elsewhere. Marquinhos won't happen as he has signed a new contract.

Otamendi was of interest to Barcelona, Zenit, Chelsea, Napoli, Manchester City and CSKA before a move to Valencia in January 2014 and a subsequent loan to Atlético Mineiro. As Otamendi had only effectively been playing in Spain since August 2014 a move in January this year was very unlikely - but he was of particular interest to Manchester United who did have offer rejected - with both Manchester City and Real Madrid asking to be kept informed of his availability and , of course, he did eventually make the move.

For me, the answer would have been Garay and Kongolo.}

19 Aug 2015 15:51:48
So after Pedro news, press have linked us with a new name sadio mane from Southampton

1.) 19 Aug 2015 16:37:29
Sadio mane tricks, assists and goals

2.) 19 Aug 2015 16:59:27
I've heard that on sly sports? Although I don't think Southampton will sell? Other options would be Rafa Silva of Braga, Carlos Mane of Lisbon or Filip Kostic of Stuttgart who have recently been relegated I think?

Raphael Guerreiro of FC Lorient too?

Good young prospects?

(No young jokes please guys) ;o)

3.) 19 Aug 2015 17:09:41
So the masterplan revealed we've decided we don't want a guy that's won everything and a proven pedigree so we can get Maine how much do you think we're going to have to pay to get him.
I'll take a guess we'll probs pay about 20 million this is an absolute joke were getting made a laughing stock with these 2 mugs

4.) 19 Aug 2015 17:47:25

You support Manchester United mate, you will always have people laughing at us but for over 20 years we've had the last laugh. I'm not particularly sure mane is any worse a signing than pedro.

5.) 19 Aug 2015 17:49:09
How on earth do you work that out nach? He is a young fast right winger just what we need :-)

6.) 19 Aug 2015 17:49:10
Nach73 - calm down mate - we - if the press are correct - were in the driving seat for Pedro - and in some reports I've read, we pulled out of the deal. And off he trots to Chelski, who in my humble opinion are welcome to him. Yes he's quick, yes he's won it all, in 2 VERY good teams. Not sure he is much better than what we've got, in areas we have good cover. Mane is at least PL proven, albeit for 1 season, and as Ed001 has said, Southampton really can't afford to lose him, so it makes no difference what amount of money is talked about.

Papers don't sign or negotiate for players, clubs do and we've done good business so far in this window. Trust in LVG, trust in the club, whether we sign anyone else or not, we will be there or thereabouts come May.

7.) 19 Aug 2015 17:56:05
nach73 you need to understand that LVG has doubts about Pedro and that's why Utd have stalled and lost out to Chelsea.
LVG wants someone with more pace than Pedro.
It's annoying as I thought he would of been good for us but if we are messing about it is because we are not sure about the player as we have the money.

8.) 19 Aug 2015 18:23:53
We twice signed young good tricky wingers called Nani and Obertan, who were not what we thought. We twice signed young good tricky wingers called Ronaldo and Kanchelskis who were excellent. That's the thing with young talent, you just don't know what you will get???? Pedro is proven, Mane, Januzaj and Memphis could all be as good as Ronaldo or as bad as Obertan? Ok Memphis looks more Ronaldo already.

9.) 19 Aug 2015 18:26:32
Mane is no better than nani who we sold for peanuts
The thing I'm annoyed is how the pedro situation became so public and lvg made it so instead of keeping quiet and it's not the first time either that's what bothers me the most it's like amateur hour lads

10.) 20 Aug 2015 04:08:52
Maybe Pedro's head was turned after chatting to Fabregas and Valdes? Just nonsense I read somewhere.

11.) 20 Aug 2015 10:51:51
pedro is a miss. mane will only sign if van dijk deal is off for Southampton evans and 10 million will get mane. he is decent but no man utd player. everyone is laughing at united. otimendi, fabregas, who else is gunner turn them down looks like they can't conclude deals

12.) 20 Aug 2015 17:44:13
astar i'm not so sure they can't conclude deals considering this window and last year. sometimes things just don't happen for a multiple of possible reasons.

Would like to thank Wayne rooney for all those memories, we all know he should have left when SAF was retiring but doesn't take away all the good moments he had with us.
Thank u Rooney
Wish u good luck at your boyhood club.

Loved the new home kit.

1.) 03 Jul 2017 12:19:04
Not keen on the random white bits.

2.) 03 Jul 2017 12:25:07
What random white bits fresh?

3.) 03 Jul 2017 12:34:48
It's just the video that has white bits on, not the kit. I thought the same at first before I played the video.

4.) 03 Jul 2017 12:35:02
Saw inaccurate photos on Twitter. Mislead. Very nice kit.

20 Jan 2017 16:29:38
So morgan and depay have been transferred, getting away from the footballing side a bit. Really happy with the way both the transfers were handed n if reports r to be believed we got the right amount for both the players as compare to how previously we have struggled to sell players. Happy with d way mou handled both the transfers in the media as well and had all the good things to say about both the players . Buy out clause on depay deal is an interesting one looks like Woodward is getting to terms now .

1.) 20 Jan 2017 16:39:05
It has been a step up from how we usually sell players, quiet, efficient and decent prices. I think Jose is reshaping the squad, we may do well in the cups this year but it will take a couple of windows to get us truly challenging.

11 Apr 2016 10:13:48
I think we as a club are in a very difficult position right now. lvg needs to go but we don't have a suitable replacement (yes I know people will say mou is d one) . I don't think long term he is a good appointment. There are managers who buy players and win u trophies, mou will surely make us competitive but then there r other managers who develop players . Pochettino is a classic example no1 predicted this Tottenham to be so consistent and when u see them they have not invested huge amount of money last summer . he just sold the players he didn't require and made others play like a team . lamela is a classic example although he is not that good, But considering how he was last season he has improved a lot under poch.
I don't think mou is that kind of manager. Our current United squad has lot of young players and if managed by a good manager can play for utd for years to come. I appreciate what lvg has done by giving lot of youngsters chance in 1st team, be it for small squad or injuries but let's not forget he said martial is d signing for next United manager and depay was his signing for d 1st team.
Martial has been our best striker this season and I think he outperformed his expectations and I guess quite opposite with depay. But when lvg bought young to play upfront when it was 0-0 I think it sums up his time is up, I mean d guy was playing as a lb before his injury.
Coming back to my original point I think our squad has youngsters who can play at top level we need top class players in certain positions to be a competitive team.
Change of ownership is also an issue as ed said New owners may have its own ideas and may bring their own manager.
All in all I guess with mou being d only viable option and expected change in ownership I think it's difficult to think of an option which is long term beneficial to d club.
I will be honest I want us to sign mou just like I wanted us to sign lvg, ed warned us lvg appointment may end in tears.
But when u think long term I think we may have to give lvg 1 more year if that means long term stability and a better manager next summer.

1.) 11 Apr 2016 10:48:50
I don't understand what this long term manager fixation that people seem to have, how many long term managers did bayern, barcelona or madrid or for that matter chelsea have had, they have stayed competitive without this long term manager bullshit.
It's time people understand that sir alex was an anomaly which will never be repeated, mourinho is the best option we have right now, this dithering will leave us with another moyes or it could be worse with either van gaal staying or giggs getting the job.

2.) 11 Apr 2016 11:58:58
Totally agree csm fergie and wenger are the last of that type of manager I doubt arsenal's criteria for a new manager will be to find someone who will be there for 15 years but to find someone who will keep them competitive and maybe push them on something we have failed to do with our last to appointments.

3.) 11 Apr 2016 13:08:56
Why do people keep bringing up Pochettino as a suitable candidate today. Are you guys serious. Do you not see where our club is at this point in time? No doubt his Spurs have been good this season, but do you seriously think they would be there if we, city, Chelsea and arsenal were playing at their normal best. He has had one good season where there were absolutely no expectations. Bound to play well when there is no pressure of achievement.

May be 3 years down the line, when he has actually achieved something, YES, but not now. Or if finishing second is an achievement for any of you, let's get in an ex Liverpool manager. They have loads who finished second.

I remember last season, there were a few on here who actually wanted Monk and Martinez to be looked at because there teams were playing "good" football. Where are they now?
We have already had a failed experiment with Moyes (one who didn't win anything before) . What makes everyone think that Poch wouldn't be scared of the headlights at Old Trafford.

I know the "club ethos" are against it, but there is no denying that the current state of affairs demand none other than the The Sepcial One himself. Its just tailor made for him.

Touching on the youngsters, well let's just wait and watch shall we. No matter who the manager is next season, I will be surprised if more than 3 or 4 make it at our great club and the rest shall follow the Cleverleys and Wellbecks. Flash in the pants that's it.

4.) 11 Apr 2016 13:17:37
Its not about having a long term manager, but about having a ling term plan in place that works with managers.

If you keep switching between managers who have different ideals and footballing philosophies. Then that will be very disruptive.

The point is you need to hire a manager who fits the long term plans of the club, a manager who's ethos is in line with the clubs. Traditionally our club plays on the front foot and gives youth a chance. All our future managers should play in a similar way, that's not to say that they will be at the club for 20 years. Just that whem they leave they leave the club in the position to have continued success within the clubs own image.

Thats why some fans have a reluctance over Mourinho.

5.) 11 Apr 2016 13:28:59
Like moyes?
Like lvg?
If the club is to be sold in 12 month how do you have a long term plan?

6.) 11 Apr 2016 16:54:30

There is no long term plan but a plan to cash out by the owners and their useless woodward. A f. ing marketing bozo running the largest football club in the work. I am not sure what we are suppose to do as fans but blindly following these idiots is not part of being a good fan.

I think people should bring out banners at OT with LVG/ Woodward out, that might jolt the system. if we follow the script that good fans don't do that we are stuck with these 2 bozos.

7.) 11 Apr 2016 22:40:45
Couldn't agree more x files. The club is owned by a bunch of shisters and the man their little puppet, Woodward, is the biggest joke of the lot.
Problem is everyone sits there and says there's nothing we can do. But in reality, there's a lot the fans can do. They can protest, roll out banners, sing their feelings during matches. And believe me, few of these will soon get the useless arrogant owners off their seats and actually do something for the club.

Any information that suggest that board is happy with Woodward and he will continue in his current role.
Would DOF takeover him later on the footballing front.

Ed just a thought
Would you not take chiellini and koulibaly over spurs duo?

{Ed001's Note - no, Chiellini is well past his best and Koulibaly is all about physicality and he has as many terrible days as the great ones we see on TV. Though it must be said Vertonghen is looking like he is on the downward slope the last few weeks.}
