We really need to sell Jones, Rojo, Valencia, Pogba, Fellaini in January.

It might sound drastic but they offer very little, in particular Pogba aka le sulk.

I honestly don't know why Jones is still at the club. He is a championship player. Slow, lacks mobility and has a poor technique. Similar attributes to Lukaku. Even finishes like Lukaku.

What happened to players running into space, looking for a pass, running through on goal.

I would have liked to see Greenwood and Garner get 10-15 minutes past night.
It would have be far more valuable and beneficial to them.

If we play like we did last night against Valencia when we play Liverpool, we might just end up getting stuffed.

Imagine the fun Salah, Firmini and Sane would have playing against Jones.

What about in addition to this the novel idea of the coach “coaching” the players and making them better not worse?

How come every signing we make gets worse than when they joined and instantly regrets coming to the club?

Almost feel sorry for Fred, he has made an awful career move.

In the case of jones you can't fix stupid.

I'm sure Fred will be fine under the next manager if the bean counter can actually get an appointment right.

No manager will be a league winner with this squad eric.
Does anybody here think we have a squad capable of winning the league?

Garner and greenwood trained with first team today.

Believable2 1Unbelievable

11 Dec 2018 16:28:18
They have also travelled with the first team. The under 19s are playing but maybe this is a sign they will be with the first team? Be interesting. Mason looks one hell of a talent.

Jose has said Garner will be on the bench and Greenwood will be 19th man in case someone gets injured. Shame for him as I think he deserves a game based on his form this season even if he’s not quite ready.

Its promising they're getting into the squad. Might be too soon but worth a look.

Do United still hold interest in Mourinho's summer targets such as the likes of Perisic and Alderweireld? Or can we expect a compromise of sorts due to other's clear resistance at signing 'older' players?

If Mourinho is to stay then surely the board either need to go after his targets, or Mourinho is made to shift his approach and target different players which would completely go against who he is and the type of player he has targeted historically.

Can we expect to see any youth players step up as the season progresses or will that purely be down to any injuries to first-team players?

I suspect we will have a very quiet January window due to the uncertainty of the managers position. We might see a player or two leave if the right offers cone in for the right players (Darmian, Rojo ect maybe) .

But I don't see any significant players joining, at most maybe a youngster or two for the academy.

Agree5 1Disagree

05 Dec 2018 15:08:56
I think the same Shappy. When the January window closes we will have a good idea as to Mourinho’s fate.

Agree0 0Disagree

05 Dec 2018 15:34:45
I think if a player who is of top quality becomes avaliable such as alderweireld we would still go in for him because even if a new manager comes in, he's not the type of player who can't adapt to a new manager.

But agree we should use the january window to get rid of players. Romero, valencia, young, smalling, jones, rojo, herrera, matic, fellaini, periera, sanchez, darmian etc would probably be for sale before you even get to players who want to leave such as pogba bailly and martial.

Agree0 1Disagree

05 Dec 2018 18:02:40
I think we could see a much busier January window in general than previous years. With the summer window shutting early I think there were lots of potential deals not completed because the selling clubs were reluctant to lose players with little time to replace them.
I guess time will tell, eh.

Ed002 if you're not doing a sharkopod then can I ask if there looks to be several ins-and-outs (2 or 3, say) this winter. I know it's usually not a time for major movements but there are serious leaks to plug - mainly in central defence and midfield - that left alone could leave us well out of the top 6, nevermind top 4 very soon.

Believable1 0Unbelievable

{Ed002's Note - I really don'tr want to get involved too much on this page for a while. Too much grief.}

Firstly, I have donned my hard hat.
I admire all those who are still talking up top six which I thought months ago would be a struggle.
I now, regrettably, would suggest that from where we are and given the stagnation and apparent apathy within the club to the situation, we will struggle (and do well IMO) to keep ahead of those clubs ominously creeping up behind us.

We are almost a top third club at present. I think come the end of season, remaining in the top half would be quite an achievement.
How do others REALISTICALLY see the immediate future.
Just to be quite clear I am a supporter, but I am also realistic and now increasingly bordering on pessimistic.

The next 3 games may be crucial in that respect. If we loss against Arsenal and Liverpool then I can see him going. At that stage we may well be 14 points off 5th, 22 points of top and find ourselves down in 9th.

If that were all to happen then surely the board would have to act and act fast.

Agree0 0Disagree

04 Dec 2018 16:50:56
its clear the players are not behind him, his tactics and team selection is a joke. no one looks like they care and that goes for everyone not just the manager

hes constantly making excuses and whinging like many of us on here and its getting tiresome

when your own fans are sick of watching you play its embarrasing

i seen a video of chris sutton speaking saying jose wants to get fired and tbh I've been saying this for weeks the guy can't be arsed being here,

the board or woodward have to take as much blame as jose and the players. we give him a new deal in January and then we don't back him in the window.

hes not got the full support so what's the point i say cut ties now before this season turns into even more of a farce.

regardless of what's going on with that team we should be making a challenge.

We keep saying it’s clear the players aren’t behind him, but most of the payers are so average anndnot fit to lace Jose’s boots. Get rid of the dross and let him do his job.

05 Dec 2018 11:52:25
I’ll back up my statement with the following, who of the below are going to win us a title:
Young, Jones, Smalling, Rojo, Darmian, Shaw, McTominay, an inconsistent Rashford and Martial (who I would keep), a lazy show pony in Pogba, an ageing Matic, an average Hererra, Mata on the right wing, a clearly bulky overweight Lukaku. I could go on but this squad of average players has far too much power and quite frankly they need to moved on. Let Jose do his job properly or sack him immediately.

I've been a Manchester United Supporter for 47 years, they won't sack Jose until it's Mathematically impossible for us to get into the top 4, as we then lose lots of money from our Sponsors, until then we will all have to suffer this dreadful brand of Football, I know it's No comfort to hear this, but it's my Opinion and that is what this site is all about.

Believable15 0Unbelievable

02 Dec 2018 23:10:55
i never understood why they wait for it to mathematically be impossible to sack the manager. why not do it earlier so you can guarantee a place in top 4. unless they've accepted we won't get it this year.

Agree0 0Disagree

03 Dec 2018 06:44:52
I'd assume that once it's guaranteed we won't get Top 4, we can let him go without paying as much compensation?

Eds, any insight into the structure of his contract extension and when it might become cheaper to move on?

Agree0 0Disagree

{Ed025's Note - not at this time mate..

03 Dec 2018 08:51:37
IM7, I would imagine it’s so they have grounds to cancel/ payout the contract. I would assume there are a number of Key Performance Indicators written in with top 4 being one of them. The managers contract is a contract of employment (fixed term) and he will be covered by the same legal rights as anyone else in the country.

Agree0 0Disagree

03 Dec 2018 10:28:17
Do you think they have done a cost analysis, Sacking Jose early v missing out on Champions League, which would lose more money?

Agree0 0Disagree

03 Dec 2018 13:01:42
They will have for sure. But it's hard to factor in things like future sponsorship, future signings (ie targets want more money if not in CL or say no when they would have said yes) .

I'm sure we are hemorrhaging viewers on TV across the world, that has to have a knock on effect. Takes a lifetime to build a reputation, a few years of LVG and Jose to virtually destroy it.

People are selfish. Woody will not look good sacking yet another manager (so soon after handing him a ridiculous new deal) and failing to secure top 4. Everyone will be looking out for their own personal best interests right now rather than the club or the fans.

In a decent/ honest world. Jose would have packed his bags long ago but he wants money, Woody would have admitted his mistake long ago, but he wants money. The club would have realised we are losing our soul, but they want money. The players would have upped their game, but irrespective of performance they earn and want money.

Most players nowadays know they will earn more by forcing a move than they would by doing their job. Little morals and honour left in the game now at the top end unfortunately.

I wish we could just rip out all the poison surrounding the club and just build it back from the solid foundations we have, but the world doesn't work like that. Just like in the real world with empires, they get too big, too selfish, to greedy and ultimately the empire dies and is reborn as something else. We have bad apples throughout the club, directors, management, players - we need to cull it all before it's too late.

Agree1 0Disagree

03 Dec 2018 23:10:39
Who does the culling if those making the decisions are bad apples?

Agree0 0Disagree

02 Dec 2018 17:51:28
Whilst awaiting Jose's successor I hope that the owners will not allow mourhino (or know nothing about football, Woodie) to waste money on players that cannot / will not play 100% of time for the shirt. Or perhaps have all fight removed by the current coach's tactics.
This season has gone let's just accept that, batten down the hatches until August hoping for a new direction.

Believable7 0Unbelievable

02 Dec 2018 17:46:30
Assuming the rumours are true, if you believe your £90m transfer is playing with inadequate effort and/ or a poor mentality, a dressing down in the changing room in front of team mates is perfectly reasonable. I bet every one of us who have played sports have at some time or other have heard it from a coach or a colleague. Grow up and knuckle down. Most of the kids who watch you would kill for a chance at 1/ 10th of the benefits your innate talent has brought you.

The fact is Pogba is a disappointment. While he covers a fair amount of ground within a team that consistently covers the least in the EPL, he rarely sprints, neither in offence or defence. This characteristic was visible when he first stepped on the field in a United jersey before he went to Juventus. He looks lackadaisical, and it's probably one of the reasons why Ferguson was not inclined to fight to keep him. The problem is that, while he has talent, he is way to into himself to be a true leader, and that's the key role we need him to fill. A player who leads by example.

We are 5 years into the post-Fergie era and we are worse than ever. We do have some good players to build a team around but it's hard to see anything positive coming from them in the current climate. Given the amount of money we've spent, the only conclusion we can draw is that we are infected by a virus. Whether the source is Pogba, Mourinho or the general club mentality itself is a matter of conjecture. My own sense is that Woodward, Mourinho and Pogba are all symptoms of a deeper problem.

Believable10 0Unbelievable

02 Dec 2018 21:07:06
All 3 of them should go at the end of the season.

We should say thanks Jose but uts not worked ta-ra. Says Pogba but you want to go to Spain so here's the asking price. And Woodward should have the decency to say "it was my decision to appoint Jose so I'll step down. "

Agree1 0Disagree

03 Dec 2018 06:49:20
Fergie did want to keep Pogba, it was out of his hands. and while you might think Pogba has been disappointing his season, so has Lukaku, Rashford, Martial (most of the time), Bailly, Fred, Matic. who hasn't been disappointing? People might point to Shaw, but he hasn't gotten back to the 2-way beast he was looking like before his injury either.

I think when that many players aren't performing you have to look at the manager. And it's not like Mourinho's faults have been hard to see. Bizarre team selections and subs, consistently embarrassing behaviour, publicly sledging players all the time and bemoaning a lack of signings.

He's got to go. He's not one of us and he never will be.
