Yaya Toure: "My hardest opponent? Matic, I hate him, this ba****d. He's such a difficult player to play against. Tall, strong as well. It's been fun to play against him, even though it's difficult. " Lol Yaya.

That West Brom relegation doesn't go down on Pardew's 'CV'. Managers like Pulis, Allardyce, Hughes, Lambert, Pardew are the exact reasons why talented coaches like Darren Moore don't get their opportunity. Absolutely sure we'll see Pulis, Pardew managing in the league again next season🤬.

Completely get the argument, however the flip-side is that they have always managed sides that could go either-way. Close to top-six or relegation in any given season. Pardew did well at Newcastle whilst Pulis had Stoke rocking for a couple of years. But where could they go? So many teams can finish anywhere in the EPL when you get to 7th and below. Burnley anybody? Nobody predicted that three years ago.

Both could argue they deserved a shot at a top four club. Who knows, whilst I get what you're saying, maybe Arsenal would do well under Pardew? Not giving Pardew a top four job is just the same as not giving Moore the WBA job when they appointed Pardew. I think anybody managing a Stoke, WBA or Newcastle is going to flirt with relegation every few years simply because the owners are on the whole are so poor and so cowardly. I would not be surprised if Sean Dyche is soon in that group after a couple of moves when he finally leaves Burnley. His path seems similar to Allardyce at Bolton, but right now he's flavour of the month.

Here we are at the squeaky bum time of the season and we have a big final ahead of us. I’m very competitive but if we don’t win I can guarantee I won’t start crying. When did this phenomenon start? As teams get relegated we are treated to endless shots of children and grown men and women crying. I worry people have lost all perspective on life when a game of football has this effect on them.

Yeh agreed mate i find it so pathetic when people cry over football. Much more important things in life. No matter how much I love united there are always things that happen which things in perspective and make you realise football is just a game. Hope we secure the cup and go into the summer with good vibes. But not the end of the world.

Well said boys that's why i don't get why people get so personal when discussing football. There is a lot more then football in life.

Maybe they are having a hard time in life and football is the only thing they care about at the moment?

Fans are crying as the players/ managers responsible are phoning their agents with glee - "now we got relegated what percentage do I get for a transfer Mr. Agent? "!

Football means different things to different people - but a generation ago I would have been more upset in defeat and conversely happy in victory - now I'm kind of flat lining irrespective and it's because football has lost it's soul at the top level. Remember our lads on the coach before West Ham in the cup, or after games we lose when they are laughing and joking with their supposed opponent seconds after the final whistle blows!

These cryers will only do it once, then they will realise that even the people it is meant to effect most couldn't give a rat's backside and they will understand they were silly to let it effect their life in the negative - just use football for the positives (if you can find many at the moment) .

Football is a religion to some people.
How many of you big boys shed a tear when we won the Champions League '98/ 99'? I cried like a baby and I was 29 then, one of the greatest feeling of my life.

With the season coming to an end a second place finish and a cup final shows improvements of sorts. Who would posters on this site award the following awards to from our squad.
Player of season ddg
Outfield player of season. Lukaku
Most surprising performer of season. Young
Most disappointing player of season. Pogba
Most under utilised player of season. Herrera
Most over utilised player of season. Matic
Signing of the season. Matic
Worst team performance Seville home
Best team performance. 2nd half v city
Most memorable moment. Ddg double save v arsenal
I gave my opinion. I also think smalling has been very dependable this season. Matic has been pivotal to our improved results, and i feel plays too often to be always at his best. There are games we could rest him.
Jessie too has been very consistent. Players in the squad that have made little or no impact will have to decide if they just want to sit and pick up a fat pay packet or move on in search of game time. Valencia young shaw blind darmian herrera mata fellaini martial all going into or beyond their final year in contract very strange that none of these guys have been tied down yet. It will be interesting to see who has earned a new contract offer .

Interesting post ken. Mine is:

Player of the season - DDG
Outfield - Lukaku
Biggest surprise - Lingard
Most disappointing - rashford (thought Sanchez but benefit of the doubt as he joined mid season)
Most under-utilised- shaw
Most over-utilised - fellaini (even though he hasn’t played a lot, he shouldn’t even be at the club for me)
Worst performance - many to choose from but Sevilla was the most painful
Best performance - Everton away
Most memorable moment - pogba’s goals v city

I’m going to add a few:

Most infuriating player - martial
Most passionate player - Herrera/ Lukaku
Most scapegoated player - pogba
Most divisive figure at the club - how many people are we allowed to list?! 😂 would have to be Jose or Alexis
Most unlucky player - Romero (class player, shame he’s behind the best GK in the world.

I would write my own list park but not much point as I agree with absolutely everything so ditto.

Good debate starter ken we need more of this sort of stuff.

Agree with everything except signing of the season Ken it would be lukaku for me. Matic started brilliantly but after first 2-3 months, he faded badly which made our already poor midfield non existent with pogba not really helping him much.

No surprise Matic faded when he played nearly every game. Terrible mismanagement from Mourinho. The world and his dog can see he's knackered and we're lucky he didn't pick up an injury.

I don't understand why he couldn't be rested for the odd game? Oh yeah, now I remember we have no other decent midfielders to come in for him. And Jose wants to keep Fellaini? What a joke!

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if we gave Fellaini and Herrera new contracts and didn't sign another midfielder this summer. I also wouldn't be surprised if we didn't sign any full backs but brought in two more left wingers instead; ones who run around a bit more. Sorry for the rant but Man Utd's management of transfers is terrible, almost as bad as Mourinho's management of his players.

Agree0 Disagree1

09 May 2018 09:42:12
Agree on matic MancMan he was massively overplayed and looked knackered for a lot of the season. Still think he has been a fantastic signing and has improved the team. Should have rotated him but I suppose we didn’t have anyone like for like with Carrick injured for the majority of the season. Herrera perhaps could have done a good job there but I prefer him a little further forward and he has the ability to play some very good through balls.

Have to disagree I think we will improve the midfield. Think you do Jose a bit of a discredit. He’s not stupid he knows the midfield and full backs are weak, hence why we are after Milinkovic savic/ Sandro etc. Whilst I am sick of some of his comments, style of play etc I think you are being a bit harsh on him. I don’t think he will win us the league but I think he deserves another year.

Park, I'm teasing a little to make the point although I'll be amazed if we acquire two top quality midfielders and two full backs which is what we need.

The problem if we do is that Jose won't know what to do with them because he doesn't rotate his squad. Then we will have world class players sat on the bench with no chance of getting a game even if his favourites are in terrible form. The we will have unhappy players off the field and knackered players on the field. Again.

Just searched for Messi on player profiles but to no avail Ed001, any chance you could do one in your spare time? Think we'd all find it hard to describe it, love the guy😅.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I will look at doing that when I get a chance mate. Never even realised there wasn't one there, that is a big oversight!}

08 May 2018 16:05:43
Big oversight is an under-statement lol, it will probably end up being the longest one you've ever done lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I was just thinking I would put 'the Argentinian Salah with less pace' that covers it all....}

08 May 2018 16:24:15
Or 'Glorified Argentinian Shaqiri' lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - Shaqiri would get upset at the comparison. He doesn't think anyone can compare to him....}

Can you do one that includes advances in sports medicine regarding Messi ed? :)

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - hahaha not sure I could without facing legal difficulties.}

He'd probably say 'Messi is not on my level' along with the rest of the his Barcelona team-mates.

08 May 2018 19:06:20
Ed001, interesting to hear where you sit on the Messi younger years regarding his treatments?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I am not comfortable with him being allowed to have treatments like that and still be able to take part in competitive sport. My question is whether or not he would have been able to live a full and healthy normal life without the treatments?}

08 May 2018 19:36:11
I haven't looked up any information on it in a few years, but from what I can recall, the treatments would have been used on anyone with growth hormone deficiency (depending on whether you could afford it) . The grey area is, did they give him enough so he could live a normal life and give him a chance at being a professional sportsman. Or did they triple or quadruple his treatment and give him an advantage over kids that didn't suffer from any diseases?

I think the Messi PR machine has done well to keep his image as the good little boy who just loves playing football and not have his past hang over his head.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - exactly. He has been very lucky that Ronaldo, for all his vanity, has kept most of his life private. The comparisons between the two are often made and he has always been held up as the nice one, which has helped his image.}

08 May 2018 20:31:49
Without the treatments we wouldn't have been able to witness greatness though🤔😏.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 May 2018 21:09:48
You're missing the point though Scholes. How many other technically wonderful kids didn't make the grade because of physical conditions holding them back. It's a way of doping. It may occur before he turned professional but without the steroids he took for years, he wouldn't have made it.

Im sure he dyed his hair blue just before he went away France on international duty Ed001?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I only remember him coming out against City with blue hair to a few gasps from the commentator. I don't really take much notice of internationals to know if he had it blue for that as well. It is possible to change it between games though to be blue for France and not be blue when playing for United....}

09 May 2018 00:22:18
That is true, could have changed it back to red/ black like he normally does before the derby.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - exactly mate. You just don't go out with the opposition's colours on your head in a derby of all things.}
