Going to be interesting to see how the squad reacts to the last few days. On top of getting absolutely smashed by Spurs. I would love to know if the stories are true about the Bruno and Harry bust up! Anyone?

Not sure how you patch that up!

You've got VDB agent rocking the boat already (although I agree he should be starting)

Plus bedding in the new signings as well as desperately needing 3pts.

28 Sep 2020 15:15:32
So apart from the same old stories on Twitter, about agreeing personal terms but not fees. It's not looking very promising.

I was really hoping Woodward and Judge we're leaving it late before the dramatic triple signing of Sancho, Upemacano and Telles.

After achieving top 4 last season and looking like a half decent version of what Manchester United should be, I am amazed we haven't taken the next step. What happened to us being able to flex our financial muscle and being able to do things that over clubs can't in the transfer market?

Going to be a long season if know one else arrives!

1.) 28 Sep 2020 16:03:54
I don't know if you missed it, there kind of was a C.V. and mass house arrest/ lockdowns in the last few months which has undoubtedly affected the clubs finances.

I haven't seen the usual mega rich clubs that aren't backed by wealthy billionaires flexing their muscle. Real madrid haven't bought anymore, barcelona are basically having a yard sale for significant minority of their squad.

I still think we will get a left back and forward in before the window closes and that would be a good window given the circumstances.

2.) 28 Sep 2020 16:21:46
Dsg I completely agree but it makes me think why the club haven't accepted offers for surplus players surely fees and wages would come off of the clubs losses. Players like smalling rojo should have just been offloaded as its well documented they have no future at the club.

3.) 28 Sep 2020 16:24:31
You're dead right DSG, people should lay off of our fantastic transfer team. They always get the job done 🙄.

4.) 28 Sep 2020 18:01:57
I get your point angelred, i am no fan of the hierarchy and understand the criticism of their uselessness but if there is one window i will cut them some slack, its going to be this one tbh.

5.) 28 Sep 2020 19:59:38
Aston Villa have spent double DOUBLE what we have so far. We need to improve if we want to stay in the top 4 and seriously improve if we want to challenge for the title. VDB is a great signing but we need more. A lot more.

6.) 28 Sep 2020 20:10:37
I didn’t miss anything! Like I didn’t miss The Top 2 from last season have spent nearly £100m each. Chelsea are the exception has they missed a window, but they have still spent a lot. Were their finances not affected?

I believe “being able to do things in the transfer market other clubs can’t” was a direct quote from Woodward. So you must see where the frustration is coming from?

7.) 28 Sep 2020 20:46:34
They don't deserve any slack though DSG that's the thing. They are horrible at this and it's unacceptable at this club.

8.) 28 Sep 2020 20:48:29
DSG has to be on the payroll. Most rose tinted glasses fan behind GDS and Shappy I've seen for years.

9.) 28 Sep 2020 21:21:39
Yes i am on the payroll considering i just called the hierarchy useless in this same thread.

10.) 28 Sep 2020 23:29:52

Thanks for the name check, a little weird with the stalking, I am a positive person and disagree with you so I’ve got rose tinted glasses? Allowed my opinion just like you are. Tit.

11.) 29 Sep 2020 06:23:59
Now now GDS, if anyone was calling you that, you'd have a meltdown. Especially if it was ed047 😂.

12.) 29 Sep 2020 10:45:29
Anyone else think DanJames could be Maze?

13.) 29 Sep 2020 20:33:32
Maze wow do you think . Do you remember the day he agreed with his own post with his second account. brilliant 🤣😂.

14.) 01 Oct 2020 00:48:04

I think I could just about handle being called a tit, I’ve been called a lot worse.

{Ed047's Note - 😏🤣

21 Sep 2020 15:03:46
Reading that Sarr on loan from Watford is an option!? If that is, I think we should definitely look at it. Would allow us to go big for Upamecano which I feel is more pressing than any other signing.

If the Telles rumours are true that’s good left back competition, our starting centre half for the next 8-10 years and a chance for Sarr to shine in the RM Position and for less than what Dortmund want for Sancho.

Ed’s or any of the regular posters, I’d be keen to hear your views and what your take on any of the above is.

1.) 21 Sep 2020 16:49:00
If (and that’s a big IF) the right wing option became a loan deal so that we could go big for a centre half + Telles, I’d be more than happy. However, I feel that we might go for just Telles plus a RW loan, in which case I’d be frustrated.

2.) 22 Sep 2020 10:13:39
I'd be delighted with all that but will be amazed if it happens

3.) 22 Sep 2020 10:14:45

20 Feb 2020 20:10:54
Pereira, Lindelof, Dalot and Lingard. I am just interested to see everyone else's option on them, their performance tonight and their future moving forward.

1.) 20 Feb 2020 20:53:09
Keep Lindelof and Sell the rest. Also Williams was appalling tonight, still learning he’ll improve. I don’t understand why knowing they had pace upfront we didn’t start bailly. And why it took so long to bring Bruno on. Poor from ole.

2.) 20 Feb 2020 20:56:47
I don't even know what to make of that tonight.

Squad rotation is important but with a stuttering team sorely lacking any kind of rhythm or consistency were so many changes really needed? Despite a good win at Chelsea this competition probably still represents our best chance of playing Champions League football next season yet this was a performance and selection that screamed inconvenience sandwiched in between two premier league games.

The 5-1-3-1 formation or whatever it was simply didn't work and to be honest I'm still trying to work out where Lingard, Pereira and Mata were supposed to be playing. If somebody eventually figures it out can you please let them know because it looked like they didn't have a clue either. That wasn't a team that took to the field tonight rather a collection of individuals wearing a Utd shirt trying to play football.

How can this team improve or find any kind of rhythm or level of consistency when the tactics change for every game. In our last three games against Wolves, Chelsea and Brugge Ole has utilised three different systems.

We still have no identify, no discernible patterns of play and tonight we were even devoid of the pace to play on the counter; about the only thing we're remotely good at.

A 1-1 draw isn't the end of the world but the performance was disjointed, slow, ponderous and lacking quality. It resembled nothing of what I expect from even a remotely competent Utd team.

I have no confidence we'll beat Watford on Sunday and as usual we're always one game away from another crisis.

3.) 20 Feb 2020 20:59:59
Pereira awful as is lingard, both need sold. Lindelof I would keep but on current form he'd only be a backup CB, dalot I'd also keep he's young and can play in various formations.

4.) 20 Feb 2020 21:54:37
We've been saying all season that lingard and Pereira are awful, the manager must see that, yet, they keep getting picked. Is Gomes that bad that ha can't start ahead of these two?

5.) 20 Feb 2020 23:07:08
Dlib, we are unbeaten in the last five matches. I know most have been uninspiring performances but try to find a positive if you can. You'll do yourself an injury with all this negativity.

Chin up.

6.) 20 Feb 2020 23:11:04
We didn’t start Baily as he has just come back from a long term injury. We also have 7 games in 21 days.

7.) 20 Feb 2020 23:16:23
The formation we're playing with the current group of players is a disaster. We play with 3 centre backs, 2 "wing backs" who aren't particularly good going forward and 2 holding midfield players who don't have a forward pass between them. Counting the GK that's 8 players out of 11 who won't contribute in an attacking sense. That leaves only 3 others, potentially our only creative player Bruno Fernandes behind 2 players who aren't out and out centre forwards. It's painful to watch.

8.) 20 Feb 2020 23:29:12
we did not start baily because he is carrying a knock so why take him.

9.) 20 Feb 2020 23:51:04
Is Shaw only allowed pass back to Maguire?

10.) 21 Feb 2020 00:14:05
he was blaming the players for not suppling martial. who picks the team. that and the ball was to light. honestly you can not make this stuff up. the more he speaks the worse he gets.

11.) 21 Feb 2020 04:26:28
Some of the squad players had a chance to impress but didn't take it.
It was a hard watch on the eye.

12.) 21 Feb 2020 06:46:34

Yes, I don’t know what everyone is complaining about, the manager said the ball was the problem. Perhaps it wasn’t round, next it will be the lines on the grass are too thin, the referees whistle was too loud and put players off, the person talking on their phone in the stands distracted them. Here is an idea, why don’t we all list a potential excuse that our manager might think of next?

13.) 21 Feb 2020 07:18:13
Red Man, the manager is absolutely correct. Some of our players lack so much focus and concentration that they cannot see the ball anymore. Further the rain didn't help either with their vision.

I do not know what Ole is trying to achieve with those excuses but it is childish.

14.) 21 Feb 2020 09:56:11
Pereira, Lindelof, Dalot and Lingard. -pereira needs to be moved on in the summer and lingards has had years of encouragement to up his game but is simply at the end of the line;he just isn't good enough. Dalot hasn't had much game time and he, atm is one of the few able to cross a ball. Finally lindlehof, who many seem to think has regressed but imo he has been shown to be poorer since the arrival of maguire. Maguire the 80m saviour who is slow, has poor positional sense and gets caught out more regularly so that lindlehof or whoever has to come across to cover more and more.
Last nite was never going to be as easy as some thought as they were up for it and had some good players on show . williams had an off game but in his defense the kid is exactly that, a young lad with not many games under his belt learning systems and about more senior players. We do it so regular, a lad has a good run and he is lauded as the best thing ever depay, haarland etc etc?

15.) 21 Feb 2020 10:05:18
Martial gets his fair share of stick and it's deserved at times, but when you look at the absolute dross around him last night you'd have to feel a bit sorry for him . Any forward would struggle in a team like that.

16.) 21 Feb 2020 10:16:25
That was like a park game. wildly kicking the ball, usually to an opponent, no ideas, no structure. The worst performance I've ever seen from a United team. You can blame the players to an extent, but the manager is responsible for the system we play. Love Ole, as most of us do, but I still think we should grab Poch while we can. The football Spurs played was great to watch and if Levi had let him spend some money i'm sure he would have grab a trophy or two. Sorry Ole but you are out of your depth.

17.) 21 Feb 2020 13:09:21
I thought it was a strange formation. I understand the need to keep it tight away from home in Europe, but it was really restrictive when we won the ball. Wing backs very deep, 3 attack minded CMs all on the safe side of their markers. No obvious dynamism to turn mindless CB possession into something like an attack.

I partly blame the coaches for setting up this way, but I think of greater issue is the squad balance.

Also on Brandon Williams, it wasn't his best game but he wasn't bad. He kept the ball too long at times, however with Mata, Pereira and Lingard on the pitch, you would think there would be multiple options every time he gets the ball.

18.) 21 Feb 2020 17:53:09
Good squad players with one or two having the potential to become first teamers (Lindelof, Dalot) . I expect Lingard to leave in the summer, which I think will give Andreas Pereira a stay of execution. As we don't have the depth in the middle to lose both of them.

Lindelof was a contender for player of the year last year and many said he should have beaten Shaw to the award. So there is a player in there somewhere, he has his weaknesses as all players do. Yet, with the right coaching and in the right set up I think he has enough quality to be first choice.

Dalot has quality, but he is young and inconsistent. He has also struggled with injuries and as such has struggled to be on the pitch often enough to kick on. He is one of the quickest players in our squad (which when you consider we have players like Rashford and James in our squad highlights he is rapid) . While he is also the best crosser of the ball we have. That's two traits that could make him a good option for the right hand side. He just needs to be able to get on the pitch to play, grow and develop himself.

Big fan of the site and the members although i must admit i have stayed off the site for a while as the whole 'Toxic' discussions as well as the bickering isn't great to read between fans of the same club.

Anyway just wanted to get peoples thoughts on the pre season we have had and wether or not people think we are done in the transfer window?

For me only having seen highlights, we definitely look fitter and seemed to be pressing much further up the field. (Something i admire about City and the Scousers) From what i saw of the Leeds game and the Spurs game we still look vulnerable at the back. I feel if Pogba stays and carries himself the way he has in pre season then an energetic ball winning centre midfielder and a dominant centre back would set us in good stead.

Id like to see the youngsters play in the league cup and Europa league and hope the team can challenge for top 4 (god i sound like an Arsenal Fan) and have a good go at the FA CUP.

Thanks for your posts and thanks for reading mine.

1.) 29 Jul 2019 19:47:28
You’ve pointed out some positive Harry, more energy and higher work rate, by all accounts there has been a big focus on getting them fitter which is very welcome.

The youngsters have done really well and I’d like to see a couple of them integrated into the squad and being part of the league match day squads. My take away has been we look like we have team that can compete, but as yet probably not a squad that compete. A couple of extra signings, better fitness, development of the youngsters then who knows? Mood is everything and the mood looks good right now,

2.) 29 Jul 2019 20:27:18
Hi Harry.
I agree with AJH.
We are not finished with sales and signings that's for sure.
I fully expect darmian lukaku possibly sanchez and pogba to leave.
That sounds like a lot of disruption but with only pogba in his plans its ok really
A cb and cm x2 (if pogba goes)
Id be happy for greenwood to cover mctom looks like he could be a regular its another year away for the rest of them imo.
A loan for tuanzebe if we sign another cb and don't get shot of Rojo.
The camp looks happy the results and performances solid.
Very impressed with awb mctom lindelof and with james.
Martial my least fav player in the squad has looked better with improved energy and movement.

Too much drama and uncertainty surrounding pogba for my liking. He has behaved very professionally and been quiet on social media i think that's a good thing. If madrid want him i wish they would step up and make an offer if not let pogba stand up and say he wants to stay.
I expect us to be 15 points better and for the top 3 to come back a bit.
Really looking forward to the season.

3.) 29 Jul 2019 20:33:35
Performance wise, I don't think we could have had a much better pre season, won all the games and looked fairly impressive for the majority of each game. We seem to be pressing more intently which is good, hopefully it's something we will see throughout the whole season and not just in the opening few weeks. Fitness looks to be good and we have plenty of pace.

The youngsters have been very good, each of Chong, Gomes, Garner, Tuanzebe and especially Greenwood have had their moments. I'm sure I speak for the vast majority on here in saying that I'd love to see them given some game time this season. I'm sure I said this at some point last season, if we are going to finish 4th, 5th, 6th etc with little to no chance of winning the league (which I think is the position we are in) I'd rather see us do it with the likes of Gomes, Greenwood, Tuanzebe etc getting significant game time than the likes of Jones, Darmian, Matic etc.

On the signings front, people are kidding themselves if they think it's been ideal but it's also far from the absolute disaster some are painting it to be. AWB looks like an excellent signing and chances are we might sign another couple. If we can sign a quality CB and CM we will be in a far better position than we ended last season and in my opinion would be ahead of Arsenal and Chelsea on paper. Not that being better on paper makes a difference but if we played to our potential we should make the CL.

4.) 29 Jul 2019 21:44:05
Thanks guys, great reading your thoughts as always. Should be a great season and I can’t wait for it to start. Looking forward to some old fashioned rumours as the window closes also 👍🏻.

5.) 29 Jul 2019 22:03:45
I don't think transfer window can even be attempted to be judged till it's over at the minute it's like watching a 1500 meter race but not watching the sprint finish .
There's looks to be good signs in the pre season friendlies but then again there have been good signs in those games in other years aswell .
Alot of the areas that we know we lag way behind on haven't been addressed but it's a time for patience as they may well be before the window closes and a fair assessment can be made soon when things become facts and not speculation.

6.) 30 Jul 2019 00:24:03
Friendlies mean nothing really. We don't get meaningful trophies for winning them. They are just for building fitness, trying out tactics and building team togetherness and confidence whilst enabling the manager to try to arrive at his first starting eleven for the start of a new season. Yes it is still apparent that defensively we are weak. Yes we need midfield reinforcements. The whole picture will only unfold over the course of the season. It would probably be very illuminating if we would all put our predictions for a new season at three points of time. Firstly at the start of the transfer window. Secondly in the middle of it and and then when the window had closed. With the beekdlfitnif hindsight when we looked back at the end of another season I wonder how stupid many of us would feel - Myself included - for the silly comments / predictions we made.

7.) 30 Jul 2019 05:32:17
One thing for sure is that we will be seeing exciting football.
Hope to see us giving everything on the pitch.
Improved attitude and work ethic is the right way to start.

8.) 30 Jul 2019 07:42:04
We will sign another 2, we already look in a far better place than this time last year under jose, I fully expect the squad to perform a lot better than last season.

I think he would be a useful addition. Very pacey and works hard off the ball if match of the day highlights are anything to go by lol. Far more cost effective than Sancho.

Spot on 2toms. We all have ideas of how to improve the squad, Just like Jose does. I would just like him to be the Jose from Porto or Inter who out coached his rivals rather than out spend them.

Saw in an earlier post about Reals shape and how they're full backs stayed out as wide as possible creating an out ball, an attacking threat whilst creating space for others. Think Valencia is capable but we need Shaw back and ready to fight for his place or Rose/ Bertrand again mentioned in earlier posts.
