What do people make of Fred. I didn't see much of him before United but I'm not sure he looks to have the attributes of a game changer .
More a Herrera who can be a good player and important part of a good team .
Not really sure why we bought him to be honest.

22 Nov 2018 21:37:03
Adds a bit of depth to an area we were previously lacking, I suppose. Still don't know what type of midfielder he is, to be honest. Not been overly impressed so far. I know he has plenty of energy, but for 50 million you'd expect a bit more than energy. I'd always give the foreign lads a first season though to adapt.

22 Nov 2018 22:27:47
£50M, I expected a lot more than I’ve seen so far but it is still early days.

Agree1 Disagree0

22 Nov 2018 23:01:15
It can go either way with him . Judt look at Lindelof who is starting to show what a player he can be in recent times.

Agree1 Disagree5

22 Nov 2018 23:07:03
The type of midfielder he is, not very good.

Can’t see anything particularly impressive about his game, and doesn’t really impose himself either. Herrera is better.

Agree1 Disagree0

22 Nov 2018 23:12:00
I think his ball recovery is brilliant, his energy is great but just the composure that’s lacking so far. I think there’s a good player in there and hopefully come next season he’s settled in and kick on. Not quite sure where he fits best, from what I’ve seen maybe the Fernandinho kind of position?

Agree1 Disagree1

22 Nov 2018 23:14:12
Agree its like playing a different sport coming to the epl from shaktar.
He's played what half a dozen games?
Hard to make a judgement yet .
Tough time to come in. The team is unsettled and although its improving it was not a happy camp at all.
I hope he settles in over the next 6 month and we get to see more of him.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Nov 2018 23:57:59
50 mil, is that even a lot now? It's gone mad .
City where after him, would he look good in the fernandino role in a team with all that posseion and movement?

Then again would a lot of our players who supposedly aren't good enough look good in a team playing really well?

Agree1 Disagree1

23 Nov 2018 11:44:50
He's not played many games, so i think the jury is out on him still, its a Scholes type midfielder we need but players like him and Lubo Moravcik don't come around too often.

Dont get me started on Fred . bring back Djemba.

Just wanted to make a point about a popular phrase : 'he isn't getting the best out of xyz player'.

As a professional, do you not have a duty to get the best out of yourself? Especially in a career so finite as a footballers. The greats have the mentality where they perform regardless of circumstance.

Believable6 Unbelievable7

22 Nov 2018 18:24:47
I hear you Fresh, and completely agree. It's funny how in all walks of life people are responsible for their own actions and performances - except football. Footballers play well, it's down to them. Play poorly, it's down to someone else. All too easy for them these days.

Agree3 Disagree5

22 Nov 2018 18:30:38
Exactly Fresh most modern day players are cry babies who can’t take criticism and blame everybody else. Hate the way football has gone.

Agree3 Disagree5

22 Nov 2018 18:35:36
I have to disagree, we all in our professional lives have probably had managers who we've enjoyed working for and some we have differences with.

When you are enjoying you're work, you are more willing to put the extra effort to get the job done.

The martial sanchez issue last season was a typical workplace dispute. You work really hard and perform really well, then the company brings in some big shot from another place who is very average and seems to get away with everything whilst anything you do is put under the microscope, your attitude gets questioned and you personally pack it in and look for employment elsewhere.

Also we have seen at chelsea, madrid and our club where players have not performed their best for certain managers.

Are the likes of ramos, modric, terry, drogba, even rvp under moyes not greats?

Agree6 Disagree1

22 Nov 2018 18:36:12
There's such a thing as coaching and tactics Fresh, they have quite a big impact on how a team and thus the players perform. Rashford doesn't decide to play well for England. Sanchez didn't decide to forget how to pass when he came to United.

Bang on betty fresh and blackpool red.
Bunch of snowflakes.
Jose the bully. ha ha don't make me laugh. He is a pussycat compared to fergie.

Agree3 Disagree4

22 Nov 2018 19:37:50
It's not about being a bully it's about the right techniques, tactics and motivation to get the best out of a group of players .
Jose is doing that at the moment it's been a real strong point of Jose in the past but it seems his best days are maybe behind him.

Times change need to keep players happy it's part of the job.

Agree9 Disagree3

22 Nov 2018 19:56:24
Doesnt the snowfalke tag then apply to jose then as well, fell out with woodward in the summer, didn't get the centre back he wanted.

Then three his toys out of the pram and was miserable for the first part of the season.

Why didn't he just pick himself up and get on with it and i don't know coach the current players we have instead of digging them out in the media.

Agree7 Disagree1

22 Nov 2018 20:02:08
Jose is partly at fault and must accept that as must his most ardent of supporters. I certainly do.
The players are partly at fault.

The 4 games before city saw 3 wins and a draw. Most players were playing well enough. With martial very much improved.
We have a decent run of fixtures coming up if we can regain that momentum again and pick up 6 wins between now and new year we will be a lot closer to most of the teams above us (city aside)
I see some signs of unity or at least some sort of truce between the coach and some key figures in the dressing room.
There has been no negativity In the press from coach or players during the intl break.
I think jose will go to madrid in the summer unless something unexpected happens and he stays here.
Will he win major trophys again elsewhere. Yes he will I've no doubt about that.
Will a new coach come here and win major trophies yes of course I've no doubt about that.
But I've no doubt that whatever coach comes to united he will not win the epl trophy with young valencia smalling and fellaini mata herrera in his starting team 30 times a season. No coach in the world have that many average players in his starting 11 every week and win the title at united.
But they play most weeks here because the people fighting for their places are darmian rojo jones mctom hopefully dalot soon and a woefully out of form bailly.
I mean that's a woeful selection of defenders to choose from imo.

Agree3 Disagree4

22 Nov 2018 20:08:26
Isn't that really really should be Jose isn't.
It Jose can get this team playing well playing to it's potential we will be fine make no mistake martial Sanchez pogba Rasford etc etc all playing well all playing to there potential and this team wouldn't be sat in 8th along side bournmout and Watford, playing boring footy.

Would you guys be okay with us signing Skrinar from Inter Milan and Martial going the other way.

Then we can replace Martial with Everton Soares or a similar up and coming talent.

Believable0 Unbelievable11

22 Nov 2018 12:43:58
No. We don't need a young centre back we need an experienced one.

Agree3 Disagree1

22 Nov 2018 13:05:15
I got the understanding that we won't be going for experienced players that is why Skrinar or Milenkovic could be a good signing.

I would go all out for Toby or Koulibaly but i don't think that will happen.

Agree0 Disagree1

22 Nov 2018 13:08:33
Skrinnnarrr!

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Nov 2018 14:58:56
With respect to Inter, they’re a level lower than Martial needs and in my opinion is a step down.

Skrinar would be a superb centre back signing.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Nov 2018 15:04:50
was suggesting Skrinar about a year ago as my choice of cb - not sure of a deal with martial unless he fails to sign and we risk or get the impression he would run his contract down. Would prefer him to go abroad rather than EPL club though.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Nov 2018 15:13:57
If this is a wishlist sort of a post then i would want any two of
Skriniar, De Ligt or Koulibaly. And upfront i would want Lukaku's replacement to be Kane.

22 Nov 2018 18:37:24
Yes sell our best attacking player, that's a great idea.

Becks58 totally agree those players would be superb signings.

Agree1 Disagree0

22 Nov 2018 11:56:14
A new deal for Smalling, he should be allowed to leave, or should have been sold.

Jones needs to be moved on aswell.
Mediocre players.

Our main problem is that we have a lot of average players that won't take us to the next level.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

22 Nov 2018 12:45:01
Who makes these decisions?

Agree1 Disagree0

22 Nov 2018 15:02:51
Jose picks him week after week . Come on back the manager.

Agree4 Disagree9

22 Nov 2018 16:40:42
Keeps him every week because:

Rojo and Jones would be better suited to appearing on Holby.

There's question marks over Bailly's attitude and fitness.

And Lindelof took a season to settle and adjust to a new country and league and his since forced his way into the team.

So what's left to pick from? Personally I'd go Bailly but we don't really know if there is an issue. Out of the three, Smalling, Rojo and Jones then most will go Smalling, best of a bad bunch.

Agree5 Disagree2

22 Nov 2018 16:59:10
Smalling is our first choice cb even after Jose has signed 2 cbs. you may like the player or rate him but Jose does .
Take a step back mort try and support the players YOU follow.

Agree2 Disagree9

22 Nov 2018 17:20:00
How about reading what people put. I've explained a possible reason why. 3 of them are injury prone. It leaves Lindelof and Smalling. Who else is there to pick from?

Agree2 Disagree1

22 Nov 2018 17:22:53
Although I just think your being contrary again. If everyone said Smalling was the greatest English defender since Moore you'd be pointing out all the mistakes he's made this season. I'm sure you've noticed how many he's made. Which is why people ask why he keeps getting picked. As you point out he's signed two. He's playing one. And Bailly as has been said there's an issue there.

Agree2 Disagree1

22 Nov 2018 17:58:33
Players are like coaches they are transient employees of the clyb.
Jred hates when people point out flaws in certain players and bemoans people that 'hate' these players which of course is nonsense because nobody hates these guys.
But its ok if jref slates tha manager.
In fact there is no difference between players and managers.
But jred can critisise who he likes but nobody has the right to critisise players jred likes.
Go figure?
Its ok to slag off players or managers jred is not as fond of. Complete double standards. Which is the only thing jred is consitent with. Double standards.

Agree4 Disagree1

22 Nov 2018 18:04:14
A new contract for Smalling sums up everything that is wrong at the club. The world and his dog can see he's average at best and in my opinion he is a liability. With the amount of manhandling he does, once VAR comes in he is screwed.

That Jose picks him every week is a further illustration of why Jose shouldn't be at Utd.

Agree1 Disagree0

22 Nov 2018 18:48:18
Smalling did ok last season but was flanked by full backs that don't attack and when matic was in form he protected smallung and co
Shaw comes in and sucked more so smalling is exposed that coupled with matic poor form compounds smallings problem.
He is average. Just like rojo just like jones just like valencia just like young just like fellaini just like herrera just like mata .
Average joes.
No manager in the world could turn that lot into epl champions. Swuad players the lot of them but some of them start 40 games a season which has got us average results.

Agree4 Disagree1

22 Nov 2018 19:44:29
Ken but these are Jose players players he wants .
What you going to do when Jose leaves?
Champions 😂😂😂we are 8th plenty of managers could do that .

Mort
Read your post about Jones rojo smalling and tell me again you support United.

Agree4 Disagree5

22 Nov 2018 19:48:47
People have said all the same things about fellaini . But Jose has backed the wig 100% he also got a new contract .
When are people going the realise these are Jose players.

Agree4 Disagree1

22 Nov 2018 20:23:04
What I'm not a united fan because I say Jones has injury problems, Rojo has injury problems and Smalling has made a lot of mistakes this season? What planet are you on? But if it'll make you happy I won't post on here again.

Agree3 Disagree1

22 Nov 2018 20:32:20
Mort you can't support united if you critisise some of their employees. But that doesn't include the employees jred doesn't like its ok to critique them and still call yourself a united supportee.

Agree2 Disagree1

22 Nov 2018 20:41:31
Jred the objective is to be champions.
We can't be champions with these players imo we can only come 2nd or worse. We came 2nd last season . We are well behind that at the moment.
My point is simple no coach will turn these players into champions becaise we don't have the quality in the squad.
A new coach will need to get new players in order to compete for the league. No matter how well martial sanchez or rashford play we won't win the league no matter who the coach is with this sqaud.
We in all probability would play a more attractive style but that won't guarantee resilts either.
Come new year if we are still 8th i'd be surprised and disappointed but the show will go on and if we have a poor season we will go again next season with a new coach and more importantly new players.

Agree1 Disagree0

22 Nov 2018 20:48:39

What would you guys say if Utd were to go in for Jonathan Tah, I watched him when he was at Hamburg but only a few times since joining Leverkusen. I think he is a good defender to throw in the mix with the Seria A contingent we seem to be linked with.

Even though I've no time for Keane since his retirement from playing, saying he left because he didn't "like" the training facilities is simplifying a bit too much. Basically training on what was described as a car park is not what you'd expect from a national team competing at the World Cup.

Thanks as always.

{Ed001's Note - added him to the list for you Mt. I am looking forward to that one as I have not yet had a chance to see him play but I know he is highly rated and RBL usually seem to unearth good defenders.}

May just be a rumour but talk of Smalling being offered a new contract, along with a 40k pay rise. If true; i give up, makes me fume, how and why are we still keeping awful crap like him at the club? It just doesn't make sense, he needs to be out the door on 1st January. Would much rather have Tuanzebe at the back over bamby on ice!
