Utd should be using their affiliation with Van der Saar to buy Van der Beek and De Ligt whatever the cost. Superb players wouldn't cost as much as some players we have been linked with and they display the right attitude on the pitch work hard for everything.

Whats the point in buying these ajax players who are doing so well to play a style of football that is the complete opposite of what they are doing now?

This ajax team builds up play from the back, presses in a cordinated fashion and has the majority of ball posession.

Under ole we have sat back and relied on counter attacks apart from a brief period when he initially took over.

I agree but what makes you think either would want to come here?

That Daley Blind looks decent too.

The system is so relevant.

I’m not sure how Ole wants us to play yet. His purchases in the summer will tell us.

Tony I was so gutted to see blind go. Always thought he was underrated. Brilliant footballing brain but lacked speed or strength. How we kept Jones, smalling and Rojo before him I’ll never know. Would have been decent in defensive midfield too. Glad to see him doing so well.

AJH, we should re-sign Daley, just to admire him.

Those cheek bones 👌.

We have had a few players like blind and still have half a dozen or more that are obviously good players but are not suited to the epl either now or in some cases ever.

If reports are to be believed and we are going to look to primarily British players this summer, who would you say fits the bill for what we need? My thoughts are :

Tierney, Wan-Bissaka, Trippier, Maguire, Chilwell, Rice, Maddison and Sancho are the names that spring to mind.

All would vastly improve aspects of our team.

30 Apr 2019 18:27:12
I rather have Dalot then Trippier and would rather go with Smalling ang give games to Tuanzebe then Maguire.

The r3sr of the players you suggest3d are fine but won't go anywhere near Maguire or Trippier.

Agree6 Disagree3

30 Apr 2019 18:53:06
This new found focus on british players strikes me as backward thinking, as if the club have said we have signed 30 players post fergies and 90% of them haven't been successful.

What do they have in common apart from luke shaw and the one and only lee grant? They are all foreign, that's the problem. Its not because they are poor individual players who we generally overpaid. Or because we have gone from extreme to extreme when it comes to manager meaning some of those signings don't fit in with the different regimes.

More players with the same nationality as phil jones and chris smalling aka the chuckle brothers. that's what we need.

Agree3 Disagree3

30 Apr 2019 19:21:33
There's probably an emphasis on homegrown players because we'll potentially be losing several within the next two summer windows. Jones, Smalling, Young, Pogba and Pereira all likely to be elsewhere. Wan Bissaka and Sancho would revitalise our right hand side and them being homegrown would be an added bonus.

Agree4 Disagree0

30 Apr 2019 19:22:01
I’d also rather have Dalot than Trippier and I’m not a fan of Maguire. Maddison looks promising but he’s not a regular at Leicester yet so I’m not convinced. Wan-Bissaka and Rice are the only 2 I would take.

Agree1 Disagree4

30 Apr 2019 21:03:55
Maddison is quality, I’d take him in a heartbeat. AWB is without doubt one of the two outstanding RB in the prem the other being Alexander Arnold and i can’t see us getting him.

Agree3 Disagree0

30 Apr 2019 22:17:44
Tony, Maddison has started 33 EPL games for Leicester this season, and been a sub in one. I think that qualifies his as a first team regular.

I wouldn't want Maguire, if we were looking for a British CB then I would take Micheal Keane over Maguire.

Wan-Bissaka, Rice, Maddison and Sancho are all excellent young British players. All bar Sancho could be achievable without UCL qualification this summer.

That is something we have to consider now. With us now unlikely to get UCL qualification for next season we will likely have to adjust our targets somewhat. We should still push for the top players, but players like Saul, NDombele and Sancho ect will all have the option of staying at a UCL team or move to another UCL team. It will take some convincing to get them to sign for a side in the Europa League.

I agree shappy but its something ed002 has said can make little difference sometimes.
I do understand the need for youth pace and hunger. But we also need a couple of experienced pros.
Trippier is a really good option and at 28 won't block dalot. Its someone who dalot can learn plenty from and is hungry for medals @ 30m rumoured it ticks a lot of boxes sort and long term.
Same in reverse on the other side tierny would be an ideal investment to compete and back up shaw.
Is rice much better than mctom? Although i think mctom could develop into a box to box so in hindsight perhaps they could play in the same midfield.
Sancho looks better every time i see him. I think he will be a top player he will stay at BD i suspect.
Maddison looks luke a really good player. Noucamp got me watching him a few months ago and he has something special i think.
Trippier tierny rice maddison sancho is 250m before you even look at a cb and say 50m and another midfielder people mention neves saul lyon lad, tielmans etc so that's another 50-80m
I know that is the sort of investment and turnaround we would all like to see but all that's not possible or practical.
Best part of 400m notwithstanding if we sold pogba lukaku and sanchez along with jones rojo darmian ( must be 200m plus there) and release mata herrera valencia and young we could get our wage bill under control again.
Its a 4 window job to fix this mess.

Reports coming in, Rio Ferdinand a possible candidate for Sporting Director.
Eds, do you think he could handle that position well.?
As in past, there were names that sounded certain right candidate for the job.

Thanks.

Ed002, like it has been in case of manager if that you mean.

Yes, now the club is driven by sentiments. Experience is not counted, it could take the club further back.

According to you who could be the ideal candidate for Sporting Director, looking at the circumstances that we don`t have the ideal Manager.

{Ed002's Note - As I have said before, Luis Campos - but he is heading elsewhere and won't be joining MU.}

Ed I get the impression you don't like United 😂.

{Ed002's Note - I have nothing against Manchester United. The mess the club is in is largely the fault of the fans.}

30 Apr 2019 19:46:54
Love ya Ed002 but even if the fans caused some of these issues surely a stronger (better) board would not be influenced by fans wims.

30 Apr 2019 21:16:10
Hi Ed. Is Campos moving to Roma?

{Ed002's Note - There is a verbal agreement but right now there is an issue to resolve which is proving a block.}

Rojo is a player i am not fond of. But on sunday he looked like he was trying to get sent off. Diving in to tackles like a mad man.
There is a difference between effort endeavour and jumping in like a loony .
All our previous 'hard men' were prone to a bit of a mad one from time to time but generally new the time and the place and sunday was neither of those things.
I realise he also nearly scored but he should have been sent off before that😂
Im all for a bit of physicality but even shaw said everyone avoids him in training. Bit of a screw loose if you ask me.
Matic got away with a couple too. One waa in my onion a yellow at least.
Gotta feel sorry for bailly. He just can't stay injury free. Really bad luck.

Believable3 Unbelievable0

30 Apr 2019 02:30:19
There are times I watch Rojo and bailly and wonder what went wrong. There are elements to their play I really like. Then they throw a couple of reckless tackles around and go off injured and my memory returns. Jones is the same. They get out of position and dive into some crazy challenge that belongs in the 90s.

Smalling may be limited in his ball playing at times (although he is not as bad as some like to make out) but he is definitely the best of the bunch after Lindelof - who is clearly our stand out CB at the moment.

Agree1 Disagree0

30 Apr 2019 05:54:28
Both Rojo and Bailly are walking red cards.
Rojo has had enough chances, he has to be moved on.
In the next season, Lindelof and a new top CB have to be first choices.
With Backup options as Bailly, Smalling and Tuanzebe.

Agree1 Disagree1

30 Apr 2019 08:33:14
Bailly played really well against Chelsea. Injuries and Mourinho destroyed his confidence

Bailly a walking red card?

When VAR is used next season, Smalling will be lucky to end most games the way he continuously grabs players.

Agree2 Disagree0

30 Apr 2019 09:45:41
TrueRedDevil, that's not quite true. More like limping red cards, judging by their injury history.

Agree3 Disagree0

30 Apr 2019 10:12:38
Haha Shappy.
The injury record of Jones, Rojo and Bailly combined is staggering.

Mad Hatter - Bailly was decent against Chelsea, but he too made a rash tackle near the edge of the box.
Such rashness will put the whole team in trouble.
He was even sent off for a similar tackle in Ole's second match.

Agree2 Disagree1

30 Apr 2019 11:30:09
TRD, all our defenders make rash tackles.

Look at the one Herrera made on the edge of the box and got booked for it.

You can't single out Bailly. All out defenders have been hit and miss.

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Apr 2019 12:42:09
Rojo should be gone this summer with Jones and Bailly following by next summer. And Smalling.

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Apr 2019 13:32:40
Rojo and Darmian must be a priority to sell this summer, I’d also let Bailly leave. If reports are to be believed, only Lyon want him and that frankly says it all. Trigger Alderweireld’s clause and put him next to Lindelof with Jones/ Smalling in support. Job done. New right back also a must have and we will look more solid.
