The score flattered, three gifts from Newcastle. we were wide open again in the first 20 min. Ole must be worried about the defence just can't keep a clean sheet. But three points, only 4 off Chelsea. We forget it's still only half way into the season.

Andreas got 2 assists and made the pass out to Bissaka for Rashford's goal.

Martial's 2nd was a gift, although he earned the gift through hard graft and closing down leading the press all game. He got in the Newcastle players' heads. He also took it pretty well.

You have to work pretty hard to find something wrong with that performance today. Slow start is probably the worst thing you could say.

Just like last week was a goalie blunder and a penalty, with numerous clear cut chances missed by us. Swings and roundabouts.

27 Dec 2019 04:17:17
There was much better work rate and difference in attitude in Martial.
Wan Bissaka with 2 delicious crosses, hope to see more of that overlapping runs and crosses from him.

There were some really good link up play and attacking patterns in the play.

Unfortunately, "consisitency" is hurting us at the moment. We could have scored many more goals.

Top 4 is absolutely within our grasp.
2-3 quality players who can directly slot into the starting 11 will massively improve the consistency.

We were excellent today and did exactly what we used to expect of us against a very poor Newcastle side. 4 goals on Boxing Day - nice late Xmas gift for me. Well done. Seasons Greetings to you all.

I thought we pressed with much more conviction than we usually do. Martial in particular worked very hard from the front and we forced the mistakes leading to goals. Shocking first 25 but we stood up and played some brilliant stuff. The keep ball in the 2nd half was very good as we took the sting out the game. However, we have seen these performances before then we flop next game so I am not getting too excited as we have seen it all before that we cannot build a streak of wins.

Park nails it, we pressed. When we so this we force mistakes and then punish teams. Eddorr, energy, pressing, it womt make us champions but it will push us right up.

Exactly right Tony. Watching Liverpool yesterday, they put Leicester into all sorts of bother with their incredible work rate, pressing and energy. If we do that on a regular basis, then we will climb the table. It is clear this United side is far more comfortable on the front foot and attack is the best form of defence. We really can play some devastating football at times but it is far too inconsistent for my liking. We should be treating each game and each opposition as a City or Liverpool game. Yesterday we pressed and harried Newcastle into mistakes and we pinned them back. It was great to see and I enjoyed it. But to put a dampener on this, we never follow up with back to back wins. Next game is the real test.

Park, irrespective of win or lose, I want to see consistent effort, that’s the bit that’s bothering me. Up for it 1 week, lethargic the next. There should be no question of effort but do sadly there seems to be.

27 Dec 2019 11:44:10
Absolutely AJH the thing that frustrates me most about this Utd team is the markable drop in effort and intensity against the lesser teams.

Martial pressed really well last night, he forced the mistakes and that should be his level of hunger and commitment for every game, unfortunately this just isn't the case.

Until this changes and happens more regularly results will not improve.

Spot on Tony and DLIB. The bare minimum should be that relentless work rate, desire and energy.

27 Dec 2019 12:45:56
It's a work in progress but we have 100% taken a step in the right direction.
There will be one or 2 more dodgy results, that's the nature of the team and the epl at the moment . Then the usually suspectd will give it the sack ole sell martial and shaw posts .
But i think more and more are starting to see the direction .

27 Dec 2019 17:44:47
Totally agree Psrk, we were awful in the first 20mins, and that shouldn't go around in "swings and roundabouts". We cannot rely on gk making mistakes etc, We could and should've been 2 nil down after 20mins. The start was simply not good enough.
However, unlike what we've seen from this team when they've gone behind, we actually got a lucky break, pressed hard, and then we were ruthless with our finishing. To me, that was the big difference from recent bad performances. We cannot allow this inconsistency to carry on and we cannot settle for other teams making mistakes, we need to force them into making these mistakes. Luck and one week it goes for you and the next it doesn't, should not be what we're aspiring to achieve.
I agree with Tony too that Solskjaer must be worried about the inconsistency from one week to another. The only way to ensure we play well, is to go into all matches with the right attitude. Work hard and play well, and the rest will take care of itself, as we have a decent strike force.

Redcon,

I’m guessing you don’t have amazon. Score flattered us? We were 4-1 up and they hardly touched the ball for half an hour, we could have turned it on and scored a few more if we wanted to but we took the opportunity to rest our forwards. We need more games like that really, for once we controlled a game, were ruthless and won easily.

They played very well Shan. Against a team that tried to play low block and counter football. Who also took the lead.

Alot went right today. Performances from key players. Players who had doubts over them stepped up.

Didn't look to ne like the manager has lost the confidence of the players. He will get a few months yet.

Great performance today, it was very refreshing. Thought when they scored it was going to be same old but the players really stood up.

Tony i posted after the second goal bud. I m delighted by the result, make no mistake my friend. I just think that these results paper over the cracks.
Hope you had a happy Christmas. Looking forwards to a happy new year.

We must maintain this energy and work rate in upcoming matches as well.

Pogba will bring goals from midfield.
Hope they don't get complacent and become sloppy in the next match.

This is the perfect chance to build momentum and gather points as a lot of matches are coming thick and fast.

Glad we've done Christmas, so let's get back to sorting our football club out. I'm totally in agreement with Red Man below. I think the sentimental attitude towards Solskjaer has got to end soon. Displays against Watford Newcastle, Sheffield United, Bournemouth, Southampton are becoming the norm. These games are won by having the right attitude first, tactics second. And it is apparent and confirmed by no less than our own Jessi Messi's interview that the players go into these matches with the wrong attitude, as if the game is already won! To me, that is a manager's first and foremost job. He has to ensure the team is fired up for every match, not just against City, Spurs and the other big teams.
Will Solskjaer have the balls to drop DDG, which is 18 months overdue? Not a chance.
Will the team come out as if their lives depend on it?
These are the decisions and actions that a quality manager will take and enforce. Unfortunately, I don't see any of that happening at United.

Ole got the job for taking us from 6th to 6th. The majority of United fans would be contempt as long as we show some improvement. Mid table at the half way point in the season with some absolutely disgusting performances under our belt is not improvement.

If and when Ole gets sacked, he only has himself to blame. He's had 1 year in charge. 1 year to impose his beliefs. 1 year to impose his style. 1 year to improve on performances and results that seen our previous manager sacked. 1 year to show us United fans why he should be in charge and quite frankly, he's ballsed it up.

Let's hope the people behind the scenes are putting together a plan to put a competent manager in charge. But they will probably keep Ole on and watch us finished 9th and then blame the fans for being toxic.

26 Dec 2019 17:10:42
You want new things mort how about ole saying this season will be used to find a team and a squad for next season. Basically writing off a season in December, seems his defenders have more faith in in him than he does in himself, some culture reset this.

Whoops, and watching the team underperform again against Newcastle. This is utter rubbish, and again team look like they're lacking in ideas. We look at 6s and 7s defensively. Midfield look shambolic too. So who can we blame for this utter tripe?

Steve, against a better team, we would've been dead an buried. But we got luck with the first goal and Newcastle gifted us a couple and we took our chances well. But still, if you think we played well in first 20mins, then that's your opinion. Merry Christmas.

27 Dec 2019 00:22:10
Thankfully, the first 20 minutes mean nothing, if the end result is 4-1. You used to do that all the time when you first started posting on here, calling it out at half-time. Try and wait to the final whistle next time. Last week we lost to a goalie blunder and a penalty, when we had more than enough chances to win. Like I said above, swings and roundabouts. Happy Xmas.
