Great passion and effort today under difficult conditions and pressure Today was very similar to Arsenal game, but this time we took our chances. l had a feeling the ref couldn't wait to even things up, Casemero wouldn't have been sent off if they still had 11 on the pitch, l recon, thought it was nearly a free tbh. But great fight from the team, the crowd played their part too. Now we need this consistently, if this effort is weekly we could beat most teams. Big shout out to DeLigt and Shaw who played very well, even Bayindir managed to come out and punch a corner clear near the end 😁.

Such complacency! Seems like when we are one nil up we think we’re top dogs. No desire to kill the game off. that's a management issue, you need to be professional and sieze your advantages, all players should be clear on that. While we won, it’s clear the players lack the direction and mentality to win games with certainty. We won’t become a team which can challenge until we do.

Hello maze/ german etc.

20 Sep 2025 21:10:14
I’ve been on this site posting with ten years as the same handle. What does that mean? elaborate please?

23 Sep 2025 19:58:11
Fizz,

Penfold has posted for years and sounds nothing like Maze or German, fortunately German has been quiet recently.

25 Sep 2025 09:34:08
Old aged brain fart on my part. My apologies to Mr Penfold.

I don't know why AI isn't used for VAR decision making. Surely it woukd be quicker.

So let's be honest did we expect anything less than a heavy defeat?

Until we get a decent midfield we cannot hope to win most games. Bruno is great offensively but a liability defensively. Mainoo. Casemeiro could be accommodated in a stronger team but not in ours. Mainoo is better suited to playing in an advanced role. Ugarte doesn't seem to be the answer.

If we sell Bruno as some want who will make the passes for the strikers? We need three top midfielders

Then there is the issue of our shape. Amorim seems unable at the moment to deviate from his style of play but is he hampered by the poor midfield. So far he has not shown tactical flexibility. He seems out of his depth but will bringing in a new manager actually change anything? Fergie Pep whoever you name as manager would still have a struggle with this midfield.

The board must be struggling with all these questions. They must be questioning if RA was the right choice and have trusted him by spending a lot of money this summer. The club has bought four good players in Mbweumo Cunha and.

While I agree that midfield is a problem, it is not THE reason we are so poor.

This system, the players positioning, the effort. All of that is severely lacking and that is on the manager I’m afraid.

He’s got in 5 new players who have all looked gradually worse in this system.

We’ve been knocked out the cup by Grimsby and have 4 points from 12.

We’ve basically carried on from last season and he’s had all summer to work with these players and coach this magical system into them.

On top of all that, we’ve cleared out all the bad apples and dead wood.

He’s going to be whine by Xmas, it’s inevitable.

2-0 down and bring on Maguire. Just about sums it all up. Massively out of position for third then slower than a wet weekend chasing Haaland, then amusingly looked at linesman (like he always does) for some divine help.

Still I refuse to dragged down by this dirge for a while yet! But I ain’t got much hair left anyway so hopefully it gets better damn soon!

14 Sep 2025 18:34:37
When I listen to the commentators going on about the system and how they feel sorry for Ugarte, I have to conclude that it's time to try a different approach.

We have two natural left FB in Mazrauoi and Shaw. We have CBs in Yoro, Heaven, Maguire De Ligt, and Martinez if he ever gets back. We have inside forwards and a striker. We even have a couple of midfielders - not enough perhaps - in Ugarte, Brunoi and Mainoo.

Are players looking bad because they're being set up to fail? Bruno, for example, is now a liability. He doesn't track back into the penalty area, and his passing has been anemic. Everyone is critical of Ugarte. Players we have discarded are thriving elsewhere.

I think we have what it would take to be competitive playing a 4-3-3 or a 4-3-2-1 but clearly that will not happen under Amorim. What do they say about madness? Repeating the same behavior again and again and thinking you're going to get a different result.

We all knew this was going to be a difficult start to the season. It probably didn't help today that we lost 2 of our better payers this season. but if these dreadful performances continue I cannot see how the board can continue to support Amorim. We have the players needed for a more orthodox system under a new manager.

The system and the inflexibility are a huge issue.
Amorim is really struggling to show any signs of progress. The system is making player look worse than they are, it won’t be long before the voices of discontent are heard.

We have a tough run of games to come before the international break. For me I’d give Amorim some time but if things aren’t improving he has to go.

Iraola, Howe, Glasner, Southgate, Hoeness, Emry, de Zerbi, Mourinho, Ole - all do better with this squad.

14 Sep 2025 19:24:16
Your problem starts with listening to commentators/ pundits!
There is plenty of signs of progress.

14 Sep 2025 20:39:24
I figure the commentators most of whom have actually played and managed at the top level have a better idea about what's going on than any of us here.

14 Sep 2025 21:35:18
When you get beat time and time again, it's hard to believe in a system. The guys just expect to lose now.

15 Sep 2025 07:56:05
So predictable and rubbish. I was there yesterday and most are fed up with it and him. He can take his system back to portugal. We hired a trainee to do a mans job.

15 Sep 2025 15:07:30
Rooney now saying he got no idea why not least tried to change
Rio baffled
Neville now questioning
Keane bemused by it all
Other managers just pick us off so many weaknesses
Our best player out of position
New goalscorers can’t score
New GK. be ready in 2-3 years!
Defenders got no idea what they are doing
Need goals bring on McGuire
Mainoo on a stroll, clearly sulking

What a mess this is, only person who can’t see the problem is RA, then states he sees the problems but never seems to address the problems…. joke of a manager, but nice guy oh let’s keep him then.

Amorim: Cunha, Dalot, Mount to miss derby and that Bayindir will start.

12 Sep 2025 21:13:50
Dalot not much of a miss but the other 2 have been playing well. Hopefully means a start for sesko. As for bayindir, let’s just say I’m not confident in him at all.

14 Sep 2025 18:22:30
Sesko looks great!

28 Aug 2025 20:30:32
Love to hear your teams for Saturday SJR calls you and asks for your first 11, same system. My starting 11
Heaton Yoro De ligt Shaw, Mainoo, Casemero Dorgu, Amad, Bruno, Cunha and Mbeumo.

I'd go with:

Heaton
Yoro, MdL, Shaw
Amad, Casemiro, Mainoo, Dorgu
Bruno, Cunha
Zirkzee

Heaton is our best keeper. Yoro, MdL and Shaw are the best options in defence right now (although Heaven could be up for contention soon if Shaw doesn't start to show more quality in his passing and better positional sense) .

I'd start Mainoo in midfield with Casemiro to give him a chance to show what he can do when he has the first team players around him. Although I'd be concerned about the energy (legs) in midfield. I'd probably plan to bring on Ugarte and Mount around the hour mark.

Bruno I'd play ahead of Mbeumo who while having some bright moments doesn't quite look fully settled and in sync with his teammates yet. I also expect Burnley to sit a little deeper reducing the space the Mbeumo wants to run into. Which means having a passer in Bruno is better than a runner in Mbeumo. Mbeumo is also a great option off the bench later in games when they become more stretched or if you need a goal. While Zirkzee I thought helped us when he came on against Grimsby and he understands what the manager wants and the demands of the league better than Sesko right now. Plus if Burnley are going to sit deeper then his link play could be vital for creating chances in tight spaces. I think Zirkzee might be an important player for us this season, he might surprise a few people.

29 Aug 2025 11:55:51
Holy c*** Shappy. Shaw is 30! If he ain’t got positional sense now then we are royally screwed.

29 Aug 2025 14:14:43
Sesko and Mbeumo droppedšŸ˜‚.

29 Aug 2025 15:11:09
Mbeumo doesn't look quite fit one thirdnso might be wiser to play Bruno there I'd start sesko though needs the confidence.

29 Aug 2025 15:48:00
Keefy, Shaw has spent most of his career (masquerading) as a LB (on the treatment table) .

He is now being asked to play as a CB, so he has to learn how to position himself in a new position. So far he's been okay, but has been caught out of position a few times. Which is fair given it's a new position for him. Even so he still needs to improve that if he is going to nail down the position.

Sesko cannot be dropped, he's only started one game. In fairness he is still adapting to the league and the team. He does need easing into the team.

Mbeumo would be rotated out of the team rather than dropped. It's a tactical decision.

30 Aug 2025 03:26:06
Okay let me rephrase it.

Holy c*** Shappy. Shaw is 30 and has played in that position before this season. If he has not got the positional sense already then he will not be getting it any time soon.

It ain’t rocket science playing at the back.

30 Aug 2025 11:15:47
Keefy, he's played there a couple of times but he hasn't really had an extended run there. Hell with his injury record he hasn't even had an extended run at LB.

It might not be rocket science, but we are talking about playing at the elite level here not Sunday league.

At this level the difference between looking good and looking like a fish out of water is a drop in performance by 2 or 3%. It's very, very fine margins at EPL level.

It's the difference between naturally making a move and thinking about what you need to do or where you need to be. That second of hesitation is the difference between making a good block/ tackle/ clearance or giving the opposition the space to get past you, have a shot, or make that killer pass.

It's not surprising that Shaw hasn't developed that muscle memory of a CB. However, he is currently the weak link in the back three and he will be targeted by the opposition because of that. So it's something he needs to get fully to grips with ASAP.

30 Aug 2025 12:11:50
I have played, in my distant youth, at a reasonable level including semi professional, across the back 4 or 5 for 20 years so know full well the requirements of each position. Yes the EPL supposedly a different level but perhaps Grimsby back 4 would argue otherwise eh!

There is very little difference, and yes it’s the small percentages. But we are talking about a professional footballer here. He should be able to operate to within that mythical 2-3% you talk of and if he hasn’t by now at age 30 then he never will……period!

Passion, effort will to win will always beat complacent talent. For those players giving out about lacking game time, l didn't see much to warrant much change to the leagues first 11. Mainoo improved a bit in the second half, Amad, Onana, Dalot very poor. Not getting much return from our 200 million front line either so far. Keeper and CDM needed Even Keane sitting on a chair in the CDM position roaring at players to work would be an improvement. The spine of your team must be strong.

We’re in desperate need of quite a few players, but especially a goalkeeper. Christy Pym was fantastic, I’ve never seen him play before but if he plays like that consistently, he puts ours to shame.

Would it be a step down for him to join us? Ha.
