Dalot has been linked with both Real Madrid and Bayern.
Diogo Dalot was the Players' Player of the Year for the 2023/24 season. He was genuinely one of the better players in a rubbish season.
For me its time to cash in, if there are two or three clubs interested, leverage the interest and sell.
30 Jan 2026 12:07:22
Is there any cover after Maz back there?
30 Jan 2026 15:05:19
If that is true then I would cash in. He is a good player but always has a clanger in him and switches off as a defender.
I would be happy to go into next year with Maz and a new addition.
30 Jan 2026 15:13:24
Dalot is a dreadful player.
I would drive him to Madrid my self.
Absolute sh*t house of a player, no guts, always out of position, shocking at defending and when he gets forward he generally makes a pigs ear of it whether it being an attempted shot or cross.
However I will give him his dues, he has played well in the last 2 games. I would much rather Maz was playing as right full back.
30 Jan 2026 15:13:51
Rewz,
It woukd also be classed as our profit for the club aswell, since he has been at the club for more than 5.5 years.
30 Jan 2026 15:45:41
He's been linked the last couple of years and it's never happened. As much as I'd love it to.
30 Jan 2026 19:46:19
He's played much better in a defined RB position since Amorim left. He's been sprinting out quickly to mark his winger. He's been aided by a second man, either a midfielder or the winger cutting off the spaces in front of the goal. Depends on who else needs buying but there would be a good case to keep Dalot (26) and Mazraoui (28) unless a really good offer comes in and the replacement is not going to cost an arm and a leg.
He's costing us £3.5m a year. A new established quality RB would cost us £30m+ and at least the same salary on top of that. so £10m a year inc amortization. 1st priorities will be replacing Casemiro and Ugarte, looking for a back up for Shaw, and a secondary striker to replace Zirkzee.
31 Jan 2026 07:55:30
And one thing to be fair to Dalot. He’ll never be more than just fine, but he loves playing for the Utd and this club.
31 Jan 2026 08:13:53
He is consistent. Never really a 9, very occasionally an 8, mostly a 6.5, sometimes a 3.
If he could cut out the 3's, he is a very good squad player. however if there is an offer incoming, take it. Mazraoui can infill and we should get some who can actually take a throw in.

{Ed's Note - Shappy has posted a new article entitled, The Dalot Dilemma: Why United Should Keep Their Reliable Right-Back
01 Feb 2026 01:16:09
Dalot is far from an average player. He's generally solid defensively, especially when playing as a conventional right back in a back 4. Obviously he's not world class but he's a solid player for us that hugely cares about the club, is clearly popular among the squad, always gives his absolute best, rarely gets injured, and has never criticized the the club, the manager, the coaches, or other players or caused any controversy.
He's a decent player, proper club man, and top professional, and given how many players we have had in the last few years who have hardly given a toss he should absolutely be kept around.
We are also far weaker at left back than right back anyway, since Shaw has hardly ever been able to stay fit for more than about 3-6 months at a time before spending months out injured, and has lost his explosive pace that he had a few years ago, and Dorgu, whilst exceptional in the last couple games in which he has played further forward, is quite shaky defensively, and those are the only two first team left backs we have.
With that in mind we should be signing a left back this summer to compete with Shaw, and keeping both Dalot and Mazraoui for right back. In a couple years it will be time for Shaw and Mazraoui to move on, and we can hopefully sign a right back to replace Mazraoui that can be first choice, with Dalot staying as a decent squad player, and a left back to replace Shaw, as an option to rotate with whichever left back we sign this summer.

I want Dalot's agent. That guy is a hero.
I think he's got all the attributes to be a good player except mentally. Prone to a huge defensive lapse in every single game. He is suspect positionally and for a fullback doesn't seem to get his body position right to be able to stop crosses. But his technique is good and he's always available and well liked by coaching staff and fellow players. If he starts regularly for us next year, we won't be challenging. He's at best a squad player. So if we can get good money for him we should definitely cash in.
06 Feb 2026 05:29:41
Dalot is certainly better than Mazz. That’s 100% certain.
Too many coaches/managers have put Dalot straight in as first choice for him not to be any good
Just seems that he is the latest person to pick on, replacing Rashford, Garnacho, even Bruno on these pages that’s led by the anti Glazer man.
06 Feb 2026 12:22:30
If dalot was a horse, it would bark 🤣.
29 Jan 2026 18:02:04
And Rhys Bennett could be off to Fleetwood Town .
29 Jan 2026 16:52:26
Seku Kone probably off to FC Lausanne on loan for the rest of the season. Apparently he's been in Switzerland for the past week training with them whilst the paperwork was being finalised.
28 Jan 2026 12:50:40
Adam Lawrence back managing the under 21's after only 4 months with Newcastle. Travis Binnion staying with the first team coaching setup.
24 Jan 2026 16:50:53
Is there any truth in the palmer rumours?
24 Jan 2026 20:15:56
No chance.
24 Jan 2026 20:37:04
Agreed on no chance. He was a United fan as a kid, but that doesn’t mean much in modern football.
He has a really long contract too, so would cost a fortune.
I know he’s not been great for the last year, but why would Chelsea want to sell anyway?
24 Jan 2026 20:44:04
I’d say it’s something for the summer and depends on circumstances. UCL, Bruno, other clubs?
Palmer would be a good Bruno replacement and a Utd fan, and is reported as home sick. A nice idea.
25 Jan 2026 05:37:39
He's a good player no doubt, but with Mbeumo, Amad and the young Shea Lacey do we really need another left footed RW/No.10 type player?
25 Jan 2026 16:23:34
Can't see us spending the sort of money needed to sign Palmer, as said he is on a long contract which will not help.
Would also expect him to want a significant wage increase and we are moving away from that model.
That said he would be a quality addition and does appear to want a return to the area.
25 Jan 2026 19:07:43
Rumour might gather pace if Bruno leaves. But still won’t happen.
27 Jan 2026 21:42:35
Fallguy, the rumour might but the chances of it happening probably stay the same.
We signed Bruno's replacement in the summer when we brought Cunha in, we also have Mount in the squad. While if we decide to move to a 433 rather than a 4231 then Mainoo probably takes that more offensive midfielder role (ideally alongside Anderson and Baleba) .
28 Jan 2026 16:28:13
There is always room for a quality creative goalscoring player.
28 Jan 2026 21:19:23
Jodler, to an extent I agree, however you don't want to stockpile players who all suit the same role/position.
Ideally you want a variety of different attackers who all bring something a little different, players you can rotate around or sub in to change a game.
It'd be foolish to bring in a player who is similar in style and role to multiple players we already have, while we have massive gaps in our squad that need addressing elsewhere. Adding another cherry for the top of the cake when we don't have any sponge would be stupid.
29 Jan 2026 06:10:40
Shappy, I agree that it would be foolish to spend a fortune on Palmer at the moment for the reason that we have several creative left footed players that are comfortable on the right.
But I'm not sure about Cunha being a replacement for Bruno. Cunha is a fantastic talent, comfortable across the front 3 and in the number 10, but I don't think he will hold the number 10 role when Bruno leaves.
Bruno gives the ball away more than most in that role in recent years, certainly compared to De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva, Odegaard for example, but Cunha is even more risky in possession than Bruno, and I suspect we might look to replace Bruno with someone slightly more adept at retaining the ball.
In an ideal world, I would consider a perfect United number 10 to be able to break lines with their ball carrying ability and their passing range, provide goals both with late runs into the box and shooting from distance, retain possession and complement the double pivot in controlling the tempo, and still provide a significant threat on the counter attack.
And that basically describes De Bruyne, but I don't know if there are many current players that fit that profile as close as Palmer currently does. I really like Morgan Rogers, but I'm not sure he has the composure to drop a bit deeper and control games. Maybe Kobbie Mainoo will develop into someone that nearly fits that mold, and we will play a more conventional 4-3-3 with a single number 6 and two number 8s, with Cunha starting when we play with a genuine number 10.
I wouldn't be surprised if United aren't even thinking about Palmer this summer, given the cash it will cost to sort the central midfield. But perhaps the following year we might look at Palmer, and given his injury issues this season, it would be sensible to wait to see if he can put that behind him.
22 Jan 2026 17:02:52
No surprised but confirmed that Cas will leave in the summer, I think we expect Ugarte to go as well, so two spaces at least to fill.
23 Jan 2026 01:39:44
Only another 12-13 more departures to go!
23 Jan 2026 11:21:22
Sancho, Rashford, Maguire, Casemiro, Heaton, Malacia - All off the wage bill Jun 30th 2026. (Collectively on £1.26m per week)
Reports of Ugarte leaving, reports of Bruno Leaving. (Potentially £525K per week) .
We had a £45m drop in revenue 23/24 vs 24/25. The drop will be even bigger 25/26 due to no Europe and dropping out the cups early.
The above outgoings balance the books, I worry that the club won't actually spend much in the summer.
25 Jan 2026 09:17:28
Rewz,
The club will spend big in the summer.
27 Jan 2026 20:56:43
I think Maguire will stay.
21 Jan 2026 16:38:10
Long time reader, first time poster- fantastic site. At Durham train station today; spoke to Christian Speakman from Sunderland AFC- apparently we are looking at Noah Sadiki (as are a few other clubs) .
22 Jan 2026 09:00:11
This was widely reported in the press yesterday. Possibly with Ugarte involved in part exchange. Seems versatile as a FB, CB and DM.
22 Jan 2026 12:33:09
Great first post NE red.
16 Jan 2026 18:43:35
Rumours of Utd bringing in a midfielder with pr prem experience on loan. Apparently he’s still in Europe so not neves.
Have you heard any links to midfielders Ed?
{Ed001's Note - not that would fit that profile, sorry. Only one I know you are after is Wharton, but he won't be leaving on loan I am sure.}
16 Jan 2026 20:59:08
Ceballos was linked with Villa. Could be him.
Loftus Cheek and McKennie are the other names being linked.
17 Jan 2026 00:08:50
Sabitzer?
17 Jan 2026 11:22:57
Lotus-Cheek and Gomes are the names doing the rounds.
17 Jan 2026 11:39:33
Id love to see us bid for Hackney from Boro. Lad looks good, 25 to 30 mill, meaning hopefully we can get one of Wharton/Anderson in summer (Maybe both depending on leavers)
19 Jan 2026 13:45:30
I think we stick to our guns and only buy players that fit the long term plan.
20 Jan 2026 12:29:00
Totally agree. Loans are different though. Would Neves provide a huge upgrade on Cas, Marino, Ugarte? Well maybe Ugarte 😆.
20 Jan 2026 18:06:48
I think Neves on loan would be fantastic. Hugely experienced, far better than Ugarte and would be comfortable playing alongside either Casemiro or Kobbie. I don't think there are any other midfielders that are remotely attainable on loan that you could say that about.
21 Jan 2026 14:29:01
Loftus Cheek or Ndidi.
16 Jan 2026 15:20:20
Reading a few rumours online that we have been looking into getting a midfielder according to Ben Jacobs.
The rumour is that it is Ruben Neves.
16 Jan 2026 15:31:35
I’ve seen that knit’s NOT Ruben Neves 😂.
16 Jan 2026 15:49:50
Saw that online earlier. Didn’t he say secret midfielder? One with epl experience but not currently playing there. The inference was then that it’s neves as Jacob’s is the Middle East football guy. Wouldn’t be against it as it’s an extra body but I think we need more of a defensive minded player.
16 Jan 2026 17:04:59
Roll up roll up, magical mystery midfielder. probably Carrick 🤣 but seriously I hope its a solid player who can get around the pitch. Heard it might be mckenna from juve, but that was from talk plop. so pinch of salt with that one.
16 Jan 2026 17:12:42
Weston McKennie. I’m telling you it’ll happen.
16 Jan 2026 18:51:47
Weston McKennie not a world beater but a decent midfielder if we're going to play a midfield 3 I think we need another midfielder would be a good option.
16 Jan 2026 21:31:19
I read it was Sneijder.
17 Jan 2026 00:09:19
Kante or sabitzer.
17 Jan 2026 00:12:02
Or de Jong 😆.
17 Jan 2026 19:22:48
Strootman, Vidal or Milinković-Savić I heard.
17 Jan 2026 20:44:14
Strootman 🤣
That’s a blast from the past, who did he end up signing for? Marsielle I think?
20 Jan 2026 10:31:55
I remember when it was Nicolas Gaitan every week.
21 Jan 2026 01:42:26
Feck me, what I'd give for a prime Kante in this team.
15 Jan 2026 21:10:11
Not so much ITK, but passed on from a friend who's a bit more clued up. United are targeting the young lad at Sunderland Noah Sadiki for the summer and have him near the top of the list for midfield options. Kees Smit and El Mala (never heard of him) where the other name mentioned.
