Ed, any truth in the Varane rumours? Do you see it happening?

{Ed004's Note - I don't see it happening but he would be a good signing}

05 Jan 2016 15:40:59
Ed any news on Januzaj?

Are we planning to bring him back?

{Ed001's Note - not that I am aware of mate.}

1.) 06 Jan 2016 07:58:22
Unfortunately Adnan is not what we want at the moment, he had his chance and didn't do much for me except one good game against Sunderland under Moyes. We need a fast paced right winger and a strker at the very least.

2.) 06 Jan 2016 22:28:41
Reports suggest we are in advanced negotiations to cut short his loan. SSports.

3.) 06 Jan 2016 20:00:18
According to some of the rags, utd have recalled him due to lack of playing time.

4.) 07 Jan 2016 13:43:29
Hes back.

13 Dec 2015 03:39:51
Ed do you know if the board is at least mulling over the option of sacking LvG?

Have there been any murmurs about that?

{Ed001's Note - while the stadium is full and the team are in top four contention, they are almost certain to keep him. The options are considered on a game by game basis, so, even though they have not been considering sacking him up until the weekend, that could easily change at the drop of a hat. If results do not improve quickly, then he will be in trouble, as they will not wait long before acting. The thing he has going for him is that he is simply there to rip it down and build a foundation, they expected a tough time of things.}

1.) 13 Dec 2015 04:47:23
So it means OT faithfuls have to create a protest and leave stadium empty?
Or say make a 10mins late entry to express there concerns openly.
This joke is as harsh as Moyes era.

{Ed001's Note - it is the only thing institutional investors truly understand, as the internet is full of people posting up insults regarding the team, win, lose or draw. Until they are hit in the pocket, they find it very difficult to know for sure whether it is really the fans turning or just a vocal minority. When the most loyal stop going to the games, then you know you have to have a change of some kind. They stuck with LvG when senior figures within the club expressed concerns, they have stuck with him and moved on players that are not working well with him. But their patience is not infinite and he is pushing it now.}

2.) 13 Dec 2015 06:02:55
i agree with u about people on internet moaning win draw or lose, but fans have been vocal with their chants during the game not to mention that even moyes did not get booed off even in feb while it was happening to lvg in nov.
Also the board needs to understand sacking him now, will give the new manager not only a chance to improve our squad come jan but also that sacking him now and getting some one like ancelloti will give us a genuine chance at winning the league this season, which will never happen under lvg.

{Ed001's Note - I am not disagreeing with you, personally I thought he was a mistake before he arrived and everything that has happened has made me more sure of that. The thing is, none of us are making the decision, so ours is just an opinion.}

3.) 13 Dec 2015 06:09:36
ED01 if it was in your hands what would you do now?

{Ed001's Note - sack him, before he completely destroys team spirit.}

4.) 13 Dec 2015 07:10:04
fair enough ed, we can only give our opinion, right now watching utd is like watching one of those psycho killer movies, those guys on screen can't listen to you, but if they did they would have survived.
By the way ed what do you think has pissed most fans so much about lvg, i mean we still are top 4, football and results are similar level as moyes's was, subs still don't make much sense, i remember that plane that flew before the game and most fans including me were appalled, if today some one tells me or other fans they are going to do the same thing, i would ask how much do i contribute and same would many.

{Ed001's Note - Moyes was following Fergie, no one expected him to do much, we all knew it was the impossible job for him, but LVG was appointed as a 'world class' coach who was expected to return United to the top. Instead he has reveled in mediocrity and his arrogant pronouncements about how it is everyone else that is wrong and he is right are tiresome. If there were signs of progress, people would put up with the dire football, but there are no signs of the team getting any better. Instead we have him spending huge sums to make the squad weaker, while telling everyone that it is not his fault but the fans' fault for expecting the team to win.

You can get away with being an arrogant arse when you are winning, but the moment there is a dip, people are on your back. It doesn't help that it is clear that players are just not playing for him, not one looks better for having worked with him. In fact most are instantly improving just by leaving the club.

He himself said it would take 3 months to get the team playing the way he wants, but it is nearly 18 months later and still they seem lost. What said it all to me is that he is complaining about injuries and using that as an excuse when you only had two more first team players injured than Bournemouth. The problem is not injuries, it is that he has decimated the squad, leaving it so weak it is unreal.}

5.) 13 Dec 2015 07:30:41
thanks ed, i remember the liverpool game under moyes and in the stadium or internet forums there was a feeling of helplessness now there is anger rather than helplessness just couldn't pinpoint why. Also u have to say lvg has been lucky, moyes's first season he had liverpool and everton added to the usual suspects for a top 4 fight, while for lvg both of them dropped off alarmingly, and now any team can't even string together 3-4 match winning streak. let alone the sort of run chelsea or liverpool went on last season or season before.

6.) 13 Dec 2015 08:16:50
Hey ed, i remember yourself or ed2 saying that "it will end in tears" or something along those lines when lvg was appointed. Sounds crazy, but how did you know that it was gona happen? i'm a liverpool fan, but admittedly i don't like seeing certain things happening to clubs even if they are our fiercest rivals. I can sort of sympaphise because we went thru the samw with rodgers.

{Ed001's Note - because I know how he manages, and it was always going to end in tears because of that. He is arrogant to the point of delusion and every job he has had ended in him being fired after falling out with 99% of the people at the club.}

7.) 13 Dec 2015 11:54:42
Well yesterday performance was truly disappointing, if Spurs win today and United drop to 5th could it give the board a excuse to sack him now?

I think the main objective for us is challenge for the Premier League and to make the Champions League, making the Champions League is a must and failing will legit set us back a few years, I would like to see more youth given a chance now to legit make a claim for a first team squad, play them in the FA Cup, Europa League etc. The issue I have with LVG isn't the poor results it's the style or lack of it we are playing, no disrespect to Bournemouth but the team we put out yesterday should of easily won and played better infact any one of us would of got United playing better than that, we are playing bland football which is a sin for United, I rather we play the attacking style and risk exposing our lack of experience (and to a certain point to see what the kids are made off) than play the get the ball to Felliani nonsense, I believe that he lost the team and certain players are not playing to the best of their abilities for him, I think the players need to take matters into their own hands and ignore orders from LVG in certain situations (if anyone has read Diego Torres Mourninho book about the time he was managing Madrid they will understand my last comment)

8.) 13 Dec 2015 13:58:20
Ed if he did get sacked around now, would it be giggs most likely till the end of the season cheers.

{Ed001's Note - I would suggest Ancelotti would be the most likely option, if Giggs was seen as ready, LvG would have been gone already.}

9.) 13 Dec 2015 23:08:49
Wow cheers ed does this mean your opinion is Carlo temp giggs future?

{Ed001's Note - I was thinking more Ancelotti until someone proves themself to be ready, though I would be surprised if that was Giggs. Personally do not think he has it in him to be a manager, but only time will tell on that.}

10.) 14 Dec 2015 08:14:07
I think if the board are planning For Guardiola then you stick with LVG for at least this season. If they are Not and Are considering Ancelotti then there is no time like the present before it gets, worse.
The players would enjoy playing under him, we would enjoy his style and he is popular and would attract players to the club.

11.) 14 Dec 2015 13:21:07
I agree ed doubt he will ever be a top manager, top players never really do hit it off as managers.

12.) 14 Dec 2015 13:21:07
I agree ed doubt he will ever be a top manager, top players never really do hit it off as managers.

09 Nov 2015 18:48:50
So we are being linked to Ayoze Perez and Ibrahimovic.

We do cast a very wide net.

1.) 10 Nov 2015 00:14:33
Perez for Valdes - I could live with that.

10 Sep 2015 14:57:55
Well I think LvG answered the question about who our next manager will be.

There is no way he would say that about Giggs in a press conference if that's not the feeling that resonates among the club hierarchy.

1.) 10 Sep 2015 19:05:44
Then it would be another disaster waiting to happen. Managers should manage the team and executives should appoint new managers, after all look what happened last time!

Anybody else see Matic perhaps dropping back to play CB?

1.) 11 Aug 2018 19:38:32
No need, that'd be a very strange move. Our best ball playing CM to drop to be a CB where he has never played before where we have lindelof and Bailly.

2.) 11 Aug 2018 19:49:46
Only in the case of a real emergency. Bailly lindelof smalling jones rojo in that order for me ahead of matic for a cb position. The emergence of Pereira opens up the option to rest matic and provides good competition for the position. Herrera and fellaini were not ideal there at all so its a huge plus for the season. Matic played nearly every game last season and suffered towards the end.
Matic is a top class no 6 and i exoect him to be our no1 in that position.

3.) 12 Aug 2018 05:59:27
Exactly Ken. Pereira is very young. He will be an able backup to Matic and can learn to master the position. Jose also seems to rate him. He did not want Pereira to leave on loan last season and yesterday he gave a special mention to him in post match interview.

4.) 12 Aug 2018 09:36:18
Mumbai, we already have two converted wingers playing as fullbacks, so i hope we don't convert a slow defensive midfielder into playing as centre back. What next, ddg at centre forward?

5.) 12 Aug 2018 15:22:59
Talking about converting players, I'd rather have Pereira on the right where he's more natural, than at 6. But I'm just glad to see him getting games tbh.

09 Aug 2018 22:05:52
Just to give a different perspective, after the transfer window we had as compared to Liverpool and City (added Mahrez to an already strong squad) the pressure on Mourinho to win the league is less than what it was last season.

I don't think any of us fans expects to win the league, yes we want us to challenge but I don't think any of us fans thinks we can win it this season. Mourinho has a clear fall guy in Ed Woodward/ Board who he can blame at the end of the season.

Right now I just want Mourinho to get the best out of the squad and not moan/ say negative things. Just play with whatever he has and try to bring out the best in them.

I really don't want him to unleash his 3rd season syndrome even if he hasn't been supported in the market. I want him to be positive work with what he has and entertain us.

1.) 09 Aug 2018 22:18:16
Mumbaiboy

You are not asking for much in the grand scheme of things but i don't see jose cheering up much this season.

On the flip side to that negative point, i also don't see him having his typical 3rd season meltdown now, because as u allude to, the pressure is off somewhat and nobody sees us winning the league.

So for me (and hopefully jose) i'd be looking for a strong epl campaign - top 3 but 2nd wpuld be a very good result. But more importantly, decent cup runs facup final and a decent showing in the CL - qualifying from the grp stage.

2.) 09 Aug 2018 22:19:28
I think we can win it.

3.) 09 Aug 2018 22:37:19
And me Tony.

4.) 09 Aug 2018 22:47:27
Apologies gents,

I also think we can win it - we have a team on paper that can and we would have last season if city hadnt upped their game to levels never seen b4.

Unfortunately, a team 'on paper' needs more than that, and ultimately i don't think we have the glue to take us to the top this season.

5.) 10 Aug 2018 09:07:55
I’m half hoping he stands on halfway line ala Chelsea hand over his mouth having a inquisition after a bad result.

07 Aug 2018 14:46:47
Clearly things between Pogba/ Martial and Mourinho aren't the best. Given a choice they'd want to leave and Mourinho would want to sell them and buy replacements. Too late now but this has been the situation from the start of the window and Woodward clearly does not want to sell them.

Doesn't Woodward's decision to not sell and replace them clearly indicate the lack of trust in Mourinho? It's like the next manager could like these players and selling them under Mourinho would be a regretful decision after we appoint the next manager.

Clearly Woodward/ Glazers don't trust Mourinho, its like he's a dead man walking. Makes sense?

1.) 07 Aug 2018 15:01:10
Mate it can't work like that either you fire the manager or get his targets and sell those that he doesn't want. If we force the manager to work with players he doesn't want how do you expect him to win.
Dead man walking? Really?

2.) 07 Aug 2018 15:03:55
Can't sell if there's no good offers.

3.) 07 Aug 2018 15:04:58
Mumbai_Boy, Pogba has been offered by the club, not Mourinho, to 4 clubs and that has been the situation for quite some time now. So, don't see where is that lack of trust in Jose you are pointing towards.

4.) 07 Aug 2018 15:09:56
I understand what your saying however that’s just your threory and I don’t think CEO’s conduct business with what if mentality in the future lol, it could be that Jose gave a list of targets to Ed Woodward and he’s yet to get those targets over the line, you can’t always get what you want as Jagger once said.

5.) 07 Aug 2018 15:54:04
United Addict - Pogba has been offered by his agent and that is clearly because of his disagreements with Mourinho. There is no other reason for Pogba wanting to leave. So it is down to the relationship between Mourinho-Pogba. Are you really telling me any other manager is going to start McT over Pogba just to prove some twisted point?

Welsh - I understand your point but Pogba/ Bailly/ Lindelof are all Mourinho signings and clearly he has some or the other problem with them. At his earlier clubs he took tough calls with top players like Casillas/ Kaka/ Joe Cole and he was backed by the board/ upper management of those clubs. That doesn't seem to be the case at United.

Mourinho thrives on the siege mentality - us against the world. His stints and Inter and Chelsea (especially 1st stint) he pretty much had all the fans/ board on his side for the vast majority of his tenure, he developed that siege mentality at those clubs. Don't think he has that at United and it is difficult to see if he ever will. All his cockiness only flies when he has the fans/ board backing him, otherwise it just looks petulant and disrespectful.

6.) 07 Aug 2018 16:21:37
Or. No club has matched our valuation for either player, and something has to give if they are to be sold.

7.) 07 Aug 2018 17:58:42
Mumbai boy, how about Pogba not wanting to be at United in the first place? that's a start on why he would want to leave. Eds mentioned as much and also that United would be a stepping stone.

8.) 07 Aug 2018 19:15:04
Well if Pogba didn't want to be here in the first place then we have been well and truly shafted by him and his agent.

{Ed025's Note - i cant see that mumbai, poor old mino raiola only made £42m out of the deal mate..

Good to hear from you mate!

21 Jul 2016 03:41:08
Ed do you find it surprising that we haven't signed any players managed by Jorge Mendes?

I realize the possibility of us not being interested but it is a bit surprising that we have almost exclusively dealt with Mino Raiola when all of us thought that when Mourinho signed we will see Mendes and Mourinho bring in few of Mendes' clients.

{Ed004's Note - the transfer window isn't even close to being over yet though}

1.) 21 Jul 2016 09:11:53
Ive read some rumours that united are using mendes as a go between with raiola, sort of negotiating on their behalf with mendes getting some commission on these deals we've secured.

Dont know how true these are but it wouldn't be the first time united have used intermediaries to make transfers happen.

2.) 21 Jul 2016 10:22:56
I read that earlier this week, I thought it was odd but then again I don't know if its common practise.

3.) 21 Jul 2016 10:46:01
We used to do the same with pini zahavi too.

4.) 21 Jul 2016 12:32:09
Don't believe half you read, then halve it, quarter it and throw away the rest of it. Speculation is great facts, when they arrive are better. I am patient enough to trust Mourhino and wait.

Eric I think he is more in the Lampard mould in terms of a goal scoring midfielder. And that's a big compliment too.

Hopefully he kicks on now.

Aj21, he picked up all of their POTY awards last season.

Also, I do not think we need to sign an LB. We just need to sign a good CB and then let Rojo/Blind cover both LB and LCB until Shaw is back.

Nathaniel, the reason why Jose will moan about Shaw is because that Maguire hattrick will be scored off 3 misplaced Shaw passes, should count as assists really.

{Ed001's Note - I was assuming it would be because Shaw's gut blocked his view of the goals....}

"your manager is the catalyst of the doom and gloom. This siege mentality bollox is boring and annoying. "

Ed, you say this as if us United fans have bought into this siege mentality. I don't think any of us have. Whenever Mourinho talks negative and $hit most of us haven't been supportive of it. None of us like our gameplay much. As I said in one of my earlier posts, this siege mentality works only if you are dominating or winning. Otherwise it just looks petulant and arrogant.

Yeah but when you looks at when his siege mentality was at its peak was during his first Chelsea stint.
He came in and Abramovich showered him with signings, he got every player he wanted and he won things with that team and dominated the league. At this point the siege mentality worked and his players and fans bought into it too.

We just have a Europa League (not what we aspire for) and Carling Cup to show far and we barely score any goals and OT goes to sleep every time we play. So United fans have no reason to buy into his siege mentality.

Sad part is despite the relatively low pressure to deliver (since Liv and City are frontrunners) I still trust Mourinho to turn more negative (gameplay and behavior wise) than positive. And this will affect the team and therefore the results.
