Any ideas on who our cdm targets are ed? Thanks in advance.

{Ed002's Note - In terms of midfiled - Thiago Maia (interest from Mourinho at Chelsea - price is off putting), Sergej Milinkovic-Savic (not so defensive though), Tiemoue Bakayoko and Tony Kroos.}

1.) 03 Apr 2017 20:57:26
Which of those would be the best signing for United Ed in your opinion? For me it would have to be Kroos for his passing range and shooting, though I don't know much about the other three.

{Ed002's Note - I am not the one to ask. Interesting you can make a decision without knowing much about the others.}

2.) 04 Apr 2017 00:59:07
Naingalon of roma is a beast love to see him brought in.

3.) 04 Apr 2017 13:48:09
Nainggolan is good, but he smokes so that would put us off straight away. He may not be fit enough for epl.

4.) 04 Apr 2017 08:00:34
Thanks for all info Ed, fantastic to get these snippets to keep us going until you and Sparky very kindly put together the Sharkopod.

I've had a cursory search into all targets you mention and like the look of Thiago Maia, more a defensive midfielder like Bakayoko. Savic looks like he has real potential but seems more attacking. Also I'm not sure if I can see Kroos as a defensive midfielder, as he's not a great tackler, more a reader of the game and distributer like Carrick.

Thus these targets seem quite different midfielders. so sorry to bother you for more info Ed002, but is he just after the one midfielder, or do you think there's a chance he might go for a couple and keep on reshaping the team - and even possibly letting existing midfielders go?

{Ed002's Note - Players tend to be more flexible than people realise and I suspect that one is the preferred option - but it will depend what happens with people leaving.}

5.) 04 Apr 2017 14:44:43
That's a fair point Ed. Potentially in one year we could have lost three centre mids in Schweinsteiger, Schneiderlin and possibly Carrick (if he isn't offered an extension) . Looking forward to seeing who joins us in the summer.

6.) 04 Apr 2017 14:55:04
Thank you as always Ed002, really good of you to take the time to reply.

07 Jun 2016 22:43:27
City in talks for aubameyang but fear not because I heard we are putting a bid in for griezzmann. Hopefully.

1.) 07 Jun 2016 23:59:32
we're not bidding for Grieman, it's a wum.

2.) 08 Jun 2016 09:38:11
I very much doubt that.

3.) 07 Jun 2016 22:58:58
Won't leave Athletico.

15 Apr 2016 00:27:48
A few different sources running with the story giggs will be next manager and not mourinho. Many United fans will be happy as they are opposed to mourinho. I think the club made a mistake not going for mourinho last time when appointing moyes and I fear this could be another disaster. I hope to be wrong as I'd love giggs to come in and smash it but realistically the position we currently find ourselves in needs an experienced coach in my book.

1.) 15 Apr 2016 08:18:01
I stand by my previous comments, Giggs would be, in my opinion, a ridiculous, emotional driven massive risk. I question openly those that would make such a decision as to what drives it. This is Manchester United, one of the worlds biggest clubs and someone wants to put a rookie in charge, really? When you say "many United fans will be happy", that isn't reflected in any poll which solidly show Mourinho approval at 70% or over, so from that I would say many United fans will not be happy with Giggs and many will be in open revolt and boycotts, if the comments I hear from fans are anything to go by, should Giggs be appointed.

My opinion is that we need to understand who is pushing his candidacy because there is no logic to it. My guess may be the romantic ideal of having one of our own immersed in the United way appeals to the old school, well we tried that in Wilf McGuiness and then thought we could appoint Moyes, another enjoying the patronage of someone with influence within the club.

It is time the club made good hard football decisions and not dreamy emotional romantic ones. The next permanent manager must not be Ryan Giggs under any circumstances.

2.) 15 Apr 2016 08:44:54
I agree I think the jobs too big for giggs. I'm all for mourinho personally.

3.) 15 Apr 2016 09:31:36
The media have been speculating about LvG's future and who our next manager will be since just before Christmas. In the five months of speculation every possible scenario has been published, from LvG staying to Giggs, Mourinho and every other manager linked as a shoe in for the job.

Ultimately it just shows that they don't have a clue what is happening. Since they have all said just about everyone will be our manager next season expect all of them to drag up an article they published several months ago patting themselves on the back for being the first to get the exculsive.

I don't pay any attention to them.

4.) 15 Apr 2016 09:56:24
Shappy, what's your opinion on the whole scenario? Do you see LVG staying or another manager coming in? Personally, I can't wait to see the back of LVG for obvious reasons and all these stories are driving me nuts.

5.) 15 Apr 2016 10:19:28
I think he will be gone, apparently Woodward spoke to several players about LvG and his methods. That's normally a precurser to sacking a manager.

Nothing is definate though, there is a reason he is still in charge. We just don't know what it is.

My gut says he is gone come July. At least from the dug out. Who replaces him is anyones guess, although my money would be on Mourinho. Three strikes and your out, Woodward already has Moyes and LvG against his name, a third poor appointment and his job surely has to come under question. For that reason I think he will pluck for the obvious answer, rather than searching for the best.

6.) 15 Apr 2016 11:25:07

I would argue Mourinho is the best available and that makes him obvious.

7.) 15 Apr 2016 11:34:49
Its the term available I have a disagreement with. Do we only sign out of contract players? No so why do we need to only hire out of work managers?

Wr are Manchester United and within reason every manager should be available to us. And that should be our thinking. Not going for the best manager for us just because he is wotking somewhere else is foolish to the extreme.

Mourinho is the obvious answer as he ticks several boxes, one of which is this idea that he is available.

The obvious answer isn't always the best option, I would hope that the decison about our next manager would be made with due diligence rather than gut feeling or one or two peoples opinion on who they precieve is available.

The club should have a list of critera which they want from our manager, and they should search for the person who fullfils that critera. If its Mourinho then so be it. But he should have to be a part of the process rather than just plumping for him because he is "available".

8.) 15 Apr 2016 11:36:24
They just need to sell papers chaps. Jose is an obvious choice for us. He will be offered the role under strict instructions over conduct and youth policy, and he clearly wants it that bad he will agree.

Everyone else has appointed or will appoint top class managers. The club won't want to be left behind.

Chelsea are the biggest Unknown under Conte.

9.) 15 Apr 2016 14:47:26

I recall Gill had a list of criteria that Moyes didn't meet. There are objective and subjective criteria, objectively Mourinho meets most if not all, it is the subjective or gut feeling of some fans like yourself and allegedly several ambassadors that has been in question.

I posted many times about having a proper process and then they appointed Moyes followed by LvG so would welcome a due diligence process with the criteria Gill set as part because it would never lead to Giggs and very likely to Mourinho.

10.) 17 Apr 2016 18:18:58
I don't want either as the next manager, personally. One isn't proven to take on such a difficult job and the other is a person I don't want associated with our club.

11.) 17 Apr 2016 22:57:51
I agree with shappy manchester united is the biggest club in the world and any manager with enough balls to test themselves would want to manage them for me if we were talking about any manager. I'd like to see pochetino (spelling) as he works well with youngsters but also plays good football.

16 Feb 2016 19:37:12
Lvg will remain manager till end of season. The club don't want to sack him from his last job in football and it will be a parting of the ways by mutual consent. Jose Mourinho will become manager and he also wants everything done the right way. His friendship with lvg is important to him and doesn't want to show any disrespect towards him. Apparently it's a 3 year contract and mourinho will have the funds to build a team capable of challenging. This has come from a source who has been fairly spot on previously. I'm just saying what I've been told. Don't shoot the messenger guys.

1.) 13 Feb 2016 11:31:55
I doubt that Giggs would say that. He's not ready to take over and needs to prove himself elsewhere before he could even be considered.
All LVG's public statements focus on his good relationship with Woodward and the Glazers and cast doubts on talks with other managers. Some might say " He would say that, wouldn't he"!

2.) 13 Feb 2016 12:15:55
I hope Giggs would vanish as a manager is concerned, playing legend yes, but I don't like him as a man and wouldn't like him to be our manager.

3.) 13 Feb 2016 12:31:16
There are 92 league clubs managers who deserve the job more than giggs. Agree he needs to get experience no other industry hands out too manger jobs to greenhorns.

4.) 13 Feb 2016 15:34:48
Looks like Giggs is on his way then.

5.) 17 Feb 2016 15:09:48
Don't shoot the messenger? this is the best new we could have had. LVG out!

06 Oct 2015 22:47:20
I have supported Lvg from the start and he still has my backing. However some of his tactics, team selection and player positioning have been questionable.

First up Morgan Schneiderlin when I watched
him last season was box to box and up and down the pitch. When I watch him for us he's just a sitter and I don't think we see the best of him. It seems lvg has asked him to play this way.

Next is Wayne Rooney who at times is a passenger. He looks like something is missing from his game. He's a better player playing of the cuff but again it looks to me like the shackles are on that he's been told to stay in a certain position and not to drift from that. Rooney before was involved loads in games now he has very little impact. Is he the right captain I'm not sure to be honest he is. 250 grand a week we need to be getting far more out of him.

Darmian had started the season very well but when he comes up against a top player on that side he comes undone. I like him defence wise but his final ball going forward need to improve.

Depay I still expect him to come good but his performances have been poor.

Martial, Smalling and Mata have started well this season. I accept that under lvg we will play a different way but in the premier league but at times for me it's far too slow and that must change.

That said in the league we are third so It's not bad I just at times am confused as to what why lvg wants to play because at times some players seem confused about the positioning. I also wonder if players are happy with the position the coach asks them to play.

I really think if lvg was less cautious and took a little more risks we'd not only play better but see the best of certain players.

Only 7/8 games in so obviously players need time to gel I just really want lvg to get it right and the frustration is I think we can be better than we currently are.

1.) 07 Oct 2015 10:12:10
I agree, I wish we were more swashbuckling in our approach - but that really isn't going to happen. It may do under the next manager though if that manager is Giggs.

2.) 07 Oct 2015 13:59:16
Good post Irwin3. We have played the same for more than 7/8 games though. Last year was the same all of pre-season as well. Even clubs like Bruge we turned it on for a half and then played the same cagey way.

It starts at getting the defensive part of games right of course, but he isn't doing that by improving players knowledge, he is doing it by playing with more defensive midfielders and sacrificing our attack - it should be a balance. One injury to our injury prone defence and we are in disarray. When we attack in numbers which is rare, we look like anybody could score past us. I just worry that we are going around in circles, next summer could see several more incomings and outgoings and it just feels to me like we will never be able to have his perfect team, because it simply doesn't exist.

I just can't believe we are so thin squad wise and still have a lack of CB's, a RW and strikers. It's a dereliction of duty for me. We have suffered with a lot of injuries every season since I can remember, if it happens again we will be in real trouble.

He is also very very lucky that DDG signed that deal, because he has already saved us several points that Romero would have cost us. I think LVG is all about luck than judgement, whilst persisting with his ethos irrespective of scenario. His theories may seem good on paper, but football is an evolving sport, he needs to adapt not dig his heels in.

3.) 07 Oct 2015 15:25:57
I agree Irwin3 with everything you have said. However, i am losing faith in LVG fast :(
I think this result was coming for a long time this season as i don't think i've seen us play convincing in more than 2 or 3 games and without Martial coming in we would have been in a lot more serious problems.
Lets be honest, if Martial gets injured and Rooney doesn't improve fast then we are in serious bother :(
I just feel that players don't just become bad over night so surely there is currently one main person to put the blame on and that's LVG ?

4.) 07 Oct 2015 15:35:15
Agree with you Rocko11 mate, few years ago it was nomidfield, not its no defense and forwards.
Some of the tactics and starting 11s are bewildering.

Hope for the next manager to change and play forwards.

5.) 08 Oct 2015 10:12:39
Thanks FZZ. LVG fan boys will disagree but that's how it was with Moyes at 1st but they came round in the end.
I really hope i am wrong but can't see it myself :(

6.) 11 Oct 2015 08:15:21
Lvg fan boys? Are we not all Manchester United fan boys?

7.) 20 Oct 2015 08:44:47
There have to be question marks over any manager who leaves Herrera out on a regular basis.

I really hope the rumour linking us to van dijk is true. I think him and bailly could form a solid partnership and both can play a little. Liverpool are now also linked to the player so hopefully we get in first. Good cbs are hard to find and he is as complete as they come imo.

1.) 23 Nov 2016 02:48:42
Yeah I hope you get him as well.

2.) 23 Nov 2016 06:06:03
If Liverpool are interested then it would be an easier step up for Van Dijk from the B team to the A team of Liverpool.

3.) 23 Nov 2016 14:13:10
I got cut up by a van dick this morning on the way to work. Do you think they could be the same person? If so then maybe we should steer clear of him as his sense of direction was awful. Lol.

4.) 23 Nov 2016 17:04:54
Yes irwin good cbs are hard to come across unless you Jurgen kloppπŸ‘Œ He gets em for free😎πŸ’₯.

5.) 23 Nov 2016 20:42:11
Yes scouse John and you probably pay him in magic beans.

28 Jul 2016 22:17:07
Really hope tfm and perreira are kept. Personally i would get rid of fellaini before basti. So far mourinho has impressed me with the incoming players but tfm leaving and keeping darmian and valencia would baffle me as would keeping the clown over basti. Hopefully paper talk.

1.) 28 Jul 2016 22:48:14
I would keep Felliani over Schweinstiger.

2.) 28 Jul 2016 23:15:14
Even though Schweinstiger is my all time 2nd favourite player (behind Scholes) I agree with that Maze, I would keep the wig too.

3.) 29 Jul 2016 04:50:14
If Mourinho gets rid of pireira and TFM he will loose my respect. it would be a sad day if we shipped promising young talents like these two.

4.) 29 Jul 2016 06:34:33
Fellaini over schweinsteiger purely because bastian's body will not hold up and injuries will continue. If he could stay healthy i would have a different view.

5.) 29 Jul 2016 06:44:13
I would keep the wig.
Schwieny is just another example of some fans getting behind a big name.

6.) 29 Jul 2016 07:38:30
It's paper talk πŸ˜†πŸ˜†.

05 Jul 2016 23:23:13
Much speculation about the future of Rooney after the comments made in the press conference. I assumed he'd play at no 10 behind zlatan with martial on one side and miki the other with Memphis, rashford and lingard filling in when needed.

1.) 06 Jul 2016 06:23:21
Just good management, and Jose being calculated in what he says sending a message to the media and fans in one fell swoop as well as to Rooney himself : Rooney is a forward and will play as a forward, but there are competition for those places. wouldn't surprise me to see Rooney on bench first 3 PL games at all.

2.) 06 Jul 2016 09:22:07
Agree - clever management

Rodney needs to raise his game now - hasn't really been pushed or challenged for a while

Will give Jose forward striking choices of ZLATAN, Rashford, Rooney, Martial and any youngsters who rise to the challenge (Wilson/ Keane if still around)

Not bad! And what with Armenian Micky supplying/ Zlatan hold up play, should be a few more goals this year

Cannot wait!

3.) 06 Jul 2016 09:39:06
Agree Wallace - The other clever thing I think he has done there is to pre empt the hysteria of the British football media by saying Rooney is limited to one of the striker positions - so presumably whoever is in form or whoever Jose thinks can do the job on any given day will get a game and therefore when Rooney is on the bench everyone now knows Joses thinking . he isn't shoehorning him in the team avoiding the backapage hysterics of Rooney dropped/ falling out with JM/ Rooney in ultimatum/ JM in Ultimatum/ Rooney i'm off! etc etc etc once a team sheet shows he isn't in the team

Moyes and LVG were in awe of Rooney - JM is not, he respects him, knows he's great in the dressing room, knows he will give 100% . but I think we know the answer Rooney would get if he went knocking on JMs door to say he wasnt happy .

4.) 06 Jul 2016 09:39:47
Roddy piper is in wwe.

5.) 06 Jul 2016 09:49:39
Mange tout, mange tout. Wallace, you dipstick :)

6.) 06 Jul 2016 10:10:19
Oh shut up you tart! πŸ˜‰.

7.) 06 Jul 2016 13:30:21
For me it suggests the following:

4231 With Martial, Rooney, Micky behind Zlatan with Rashford first change
433 With Martial, Zlatan, Micky with Rooney as the attacking member of the 3 midfielders (still classed as the 10 position.

Both systems to have fluid players (excluding Zlatan) as the Chelsea team did that won the title.
I think Mourinho will get the best out of Rooney. and if not will move him on next year.

29 Jun 2016 15:44:23
I really hope Mourinho is looking to bring another cb in as i'm very undecided on smalling. Could we sign another and have smalling on the bench?

22 Jun 2016 17:35:55
Mario, Gomes and Carvalho all linked to us at some stage. Seen nothing special from any of them. Got to be better alternatives.

1.) 22 Jun 2016 18:38:18
If you combined those three midfielders best attributes you would get someone of similar quality to paul pogba.

Hence why we should be willing to pay an exorbitant amount of money even if we have the slimmest change of actually getting him.

Keeping Ddg and signing quality players from other teams is the only way forward in my humble opinion. Sets a precedent that we are not interested in selling our best players and signals intentions of building a team to compete with Europe's elite. With the financial backing no reason why mourinho can't have us as challengers at the top table again. We don't need Madrid cast offs or bargain tools.

Fellaini should be the first player to be sold.
