Andreas Perriera earns 1.5m a year salary. The highest paid world leader earns the same (Singapore) and Phil Jones earns more than double that.
I struggle to get my head around that.

1.) 11 Aug 2021 17:27:13
Supply and demand Remi.

2.) 11 Aug 2021 17:27:24
It's pretty poor reading to say the least. But the whole thing needs looking at.
A salary-cap across the sport should be implemented across Europe, not just to Spain or wherever as that leads to what we've just seen with Messi.

3.) 11 Aug 2021 18:03:22
While Tom Cruise earns between $12-18m per film as a base salary before his percentage based on box office performance etc. Despite being an absolutely terrible actor who can only play one role, a parody of the man he thinks he is.

If Tom was paid what he's worth then he'd be the poorest actor in Hollywood. But that's not the world we live in.

4.) 11 Aug 2021 18:40:21
Shappy he is paid exactly what he is worth because his movies make money.

5.) 11 Aug 2021 19:08:38
Which is exactly my point Ken.

6.) 11 Aug 2021 19:52:07
Its the opposite to your point shappy. You said if he is paid what he's worth he would be poorest actor in Hollywood. Inferring that he is paid a lot more than you think he is worth.
Whereas he is paid what he is worth by better judges than you. (People who know the movie business with experience in it etc) he is paid these sums because his movies generate profits.

7.) 11 Aug 2021 20:01:30
The market, over time and over a very large sample, corrects itself. There are always exceptions like Phil Jones earning twice of that amount. There are always fat tails in distributions in the real world.

8.) 11 Aug 2021 21:15:01
Ken, maybe I didn't say my point we'll enough.

If he was paid based on the quality of his acting then he would be the poorest paid actor in Hollywood.

But that's not the world we live in, you often aren't paid by the quality of your work, but by the profitability of your work.

Subjectively Tom Cruise is a poor actor, yet his films tend to do well at the box office and as such he is paid well for them.

9.) 11 Aug 2021 21:58:34
A comment on the absurdity of wages for average footballers turns to Tom Cruise. I dunno🤔🤔.

10.) 11 Aug 2021 22:15:10
Supply and demand Remi!

11.) 11 Aug 2021 22:31:20
28 awards I count.

12.) 12 Aug 2021 03:14:18
Shappy does have a point.

There are countless examples where the so called top stars are nothing but decent actors who sell more than their worth because of their marketability, brand, personality and other factors.

If these actors were to be judged only by their acting skills they wouldn't make the grade.

They are great assets for the industry and that's why they get paid a lot, not because they are great actors. There maybe a few exceptions.

13.) 12 Aug 2021 07:41:34
Lpu they are not being paid for their acting skills they get the job because they sell. That is their job fronting movies that sell. So they do their job as asked.
As soon as they start producing movies that don't sell they won't get paid as much.
Arnie couldn't act at all but his movies sold so he was paid what he was worth.
Footballers on the other hand get paid regardless of their ability to deliver.

14.) 12 Aug 2021 08:43:24
I have read this forum for few years, laughed at some post raised eyebrows at others totally disagreed with some even fell asleep reading Shappy’s bore fest post but it’s all about opinions so that’s fine, but today one post is a step too far and I have to reply (first time ever)
Shappy that is your stupidest post ever and there have been a lot
Tom Cruise not a good actor awards from his piers and the industry say otherwise the lofty position he enjoys in Hollywood and the Film industry in general says otherwise, but NO wait Shappy speaks he is not a good actor…. Please it’s just your opinion should not be made to be a statement, people tolerate your post because maybe you have a little knowledge about football but please crazy statements about movie stars in something you have zero knowledge or experience, apart from watching films, is just your opinion, nothing more nothing less!
It’s like saying Messi, Ronaldo, Zlaten, the list goes on, are not good footballers just because you personally don’t like them.
I feel the mods on this site are making you full of your own self importance giving you a word count and you are believing it when in reality they are taking the P… but your so wrapped up in yourself you don’t see it……. Now your some sort of Hollywood critique, that’s a step too far…….
IN YOUR OPINION TOM CRUISE is a poor actor a opinion that actually means JACK.! Only means something in your own head.
So best stick to the long winded essays about football, please don’t venture into Hollywood.

15.) 12 Aug 2021 08:58:06
Skyliner that's simply not fair. Shappy knows a hell of a lot more about acting than he does football. 🤣🤣.

16.) 12 Aug 2021 10:05:02
Wow, okay, so Tom Cruise reads the site😂 welcome Tom I mean Skyliner 🤣

I ramble on a lot and post more than I probably should, but trust me I'm not full of myself, and I certainly don't take myself that seriously.

I'm a fan, and of course what I post is my opinion. I never try and pretend otherwise. If I had to write "in my opinion" in front of every opinion I post then the word count would be at least 30% higher than it is.

The great thing about opinions is we are all entitled to one. Just as everyone else is entitled to disagree with it if they want.

You are right, it is my opinion that Tom Cruise is a poor actor, this is based on every performance he does could be the same character regardless of the film. He can't do anything other than Ethan Hunt. Which in my opinion is a parody of the person he thinks he is.

There's no denying his films sell well and as such he gets a lot of money for them.

I find it funny that after reading the site for years, Tom Cruise is the hill you choose to die on. For all the discussions we have on here regarding Manchester United football club, be that players, managers, tactics, the owners, the state of football, rule changes, VAR, bad refereeing, the Super League or any of the other football related things we talk about. But no, someone doesn't think Tom Cruise is a good actor and that's the one you feel the need to jump in on.

Funny old world😂.

17.) 12 Aug 2021 10:43:01
Won't have a bad word said about Tom Cruise's acting. Always good, movies are usually on the money. The guy also does all his own stunts, I mean he goes above and beyond. Top it all off, his movies always make a killing.

Shappy critiquing his acting ability 😂.

{Ed001's Note - he is also the only reason Lock, Stock got released. If he hadn't turned up to watch the screening for the film execs and laughed most of the way through it, they would have canned it, as none of the execs understood what was said! But, on the minus side, he is a Scientologist.}

18.) 12 Aug 2021 11:55:11
Top gun is one of my favourite movies of all time. saw it 1st in a drive in movie theatre in LA and was about 18. loved it. Still feel sorry for goose angel🤣.

28 Jul 2021 14:15:04
Is WRD really gone of site, if so, c'mon back lad it's only football. Great poster.

{Ed014's Note - he did proclaim he was off

1.) 28 Jul 2021 15:28:05
I agree Welsh was a good poster, and I hope he comes back some day.

If he needs time away then that's fine. Sometimes we have things going on in our lives beyond football and the negative vibe that has been on here over the past year or so can be a bit too much at those potentially difficult times.

I've taken breaks from time to time. I also end up back here though. So hopefully we'll see Welsh soon enough.

I wondered if high profile sports stars had a campaign where they were to "turn off twitter", then some real progress could be made on abusive/ racist tweets.

1.) 16 Jul 2021 23:12:02
Like the social media blackout they recently did?

2.) 17 Jul 2021 01:49:27
Remi some of these guys make more from their social media activity than they do playing football mate.

3.) 17 Jul 2021 06:43:02
Imagine if everyone came together to fight racism the way they did to fight the ESL. Wouldn't that be progress. Wonder what stops them?

4.) 17 Jul 2021 08:32:18
Not sure turning off Twitter would do much, as it didn’t when they did it recently. Add to that the vast vast majority of the disgusting vile abusive tweets originated from outside the UK. Even if the front name is not the full name, every account should have their identity verified underneath. Not sure what they can do with the vile individuals outside the UK when it happens.

5.) 17 Jul 2021 09:56:58
It's appalling that platforms can publish this crap without appearing to have any responsibility for it. If a newspaper did it they would be sued but online gets away with it.

6.) 17 Jul 2021 10:32:40
Bang on ajh.

7.) 17 Jul 2021 11:28:41
Oh, I wasn't aware of a social media blackout. It obviously didn't have much impact so.

8.) 17 Jul 2021 12:01:15
They get away with it because they aren't classed as publishing the comments AJH, that is the whole debate in the US now regarding section 230.
While these platforms amplify what is a vocal minority, removing the megaphone doesn't end racism, unfortunately it will always be in society.

02 Jul 2021 10:13:56
I have often read on hear lately that Declan Rice will do the job that Mctominay and Fred do. Freeing up a role for a more attacking player. I can't get my head around it. It has to be the greatest load of scutter I ever heard. You only need to watch any utd game to see how much nonsense that is. I also think a lot are seriously underestimating the player Mctominay is.

1.) 02 Jul 2021 10:39:00
McTominay is a great player, but his natural instinct is to chase the ball down. While one of his biggest assets is the ability to shoot from range, or break into the box to finish off moves. He doesn't have the passing range or the reading of the game to be a sitting holding midfielder who can dictate play. He is a classic box to box player, who can make tackles, use his physicality to pressure opposition, his stamina to get up and down the pitch and his shooting ability by breaking forward and getting nearer/ into the box.

He is wasted and not playing to his strength by being tasked to sit in front of the defence and shuttle side to side to protect the back four.

That is a job a player like Rice excels at. While Rice's passing is underrated.

A player like Rice would allow someone like McTominay to play and be able to break forward more often and play to the best of his ability. Or we could play someone like Pogba or Donny alongside a player like Rice, players who could use their passing range or intelligence to move the ball quicker and into more dangerous areas making us a greater attacking threat.

Currently because we don't have a natural holding midfielder we are playing two box to box players in McFred in the hope that while one chases the ball down the other is marking the space. For the most part this works, but it can mean that at times both players have gone with their natural instinct and left the space in front of the back four unguarded. While neither really have the passing ability to control the tempo of the game.

Signing a player like Rice means we can play round pegs in round holes and square pegs in square holes. Meaning everyone is doing what they are best at.

2.) 02 Jul 2021 11:23:01
Mctominay is not a great player.

3.) 02 Jul 2021 11:32:44
Both Fred and McTominay are not "special-ist" defensive midfielders.
We have conceded plenty of goals with the midfielders not tracking players.

Both of them need to massively improve in positioning and anticipation of danger.
Fred although brings energy, he simply lacks the first touch to pass out from the back and concedes possession far too often.

Just have a look at Ed001's glowing review on Rice in the Chelsea page.
A top class defensive midfielder has to be a priority for us this window.

4.) 02 Jul 2021 13:41:27
DDG, McTominay has scored 7 goals from deep midfield this season for us. The last player to score 7 while playing as part of the double pivot was Scholes.

Seven goals from defensive midfield, while playing in a system that doesn't get the best from you suggests that there is a great player in there.

I think if you put McTominay in a double pivot with Rice then he'd be getting 10-15 goals a season, most likely scoring some crucial goals to break teams down.

I think he is potentially a great player, not a world class player, but someone who we could look back on and say they were great for us.

5.) 02 Jul 2021 16:36:34
Lol really Shappy. He scored 4 in the league and 2nof those were against Leeds when he played the best game of his life, never to be seen again.

The other 2 was a long range strike against Southampton to make it 6-0…. So no defence, and a header against Everton when they decided to camp out on the goal line (they were that far back lol) . His other goals were 2 more headers in the cup and a nice finish against West Ham in the cup.

Personally can’t see him scoring 10 in the league ever.

6.) 02 Jul 2021 20:08:57
The only chance Rice would have of scoring double figures at Utd is by converting 10 of the 50 penalties we get each season….

14 May 2021 12:49:50
I don't be on the the other team site pages, so I'm wondering, do all teams fans have such a childish reaction after a defeat.
It's embarrassing.

{Ed007's Note - Yes.}

1.) 14 May 2021 13:47:59
They aren't childish Remi, we want our team to turn up against our main rivals not be turned over like that. I am pretty balanced usually and don't like to react too soon after a game but let's call a spade a spade, several of these lads that play for us are just not good enough and no amount of hiding behind excuses why we are so mediocre in our minset will hide that.

2.) 14 May 2021 14:52:56
To me it's childish WRD. Everytime we lose this site goes nuts. We are 2nd in the league, miles away from city in terms of everything really. But above 18 other teams including Liverpool. I was entertained watching the game which is what football is supposed to do. But unless Utd are top dog many fans are unable to enjoy a game, I'm afraid that's not how sport works.

3.) 14 May 2021 16:05:20
Remi. That game only frustrated me anyway. Do you realise the money them players are on. and shouldn't be getting. Biggest league game of the season against our biggest rivals and they can't put 3 passes together. It was rubbish.

4.) 14 May 2021 16:14:02
True Remi and when you start accepting that, you have given yourself to mediocrity.

5.) 14 May 2021 16:57:24
Yeah @Remi when you start accepting that, you have given yourself to mediocrity so the solution is to pound on the keyboard hard and start berating your players and the manager, to no effect.

{Ed014's Note - you are pounding away on your key board to excuse it, what’s the difference 🤷‍♂️

6.) 14 May 2021 17:14:29
So second place is mediocrity. Its win or nothing.
Got it 👍.

{Ed014's Note - if you were 2nd with 90 plus points, hunting down City for the title and waiting to play against City or Chelsea in the Champions League final no one would mention mediocrity.

But your not, your scraping and scratching for points, play dull football and have just capitulated to your biggest rival with a pretty much full strength team out when they had two kids in defence and gifted you a head start.

What bits are you missing?

7.) 14 May 2021 17:43:30
The bits I'm missing as you put it is every time we lose a game there is a meltdown on here. I don't enjoy getting beat but it's football, it's not easy to win, yet many here lose there s**t. Where is the enjoyment, why bother?

{Ed014's Note - Remi, fans want to see a marked improvement, they are not having a melt down but voicing the same opinion they have been since 2013 pretty much.

Fans want enjoyment from games, they want to see United fighting it out with all the other big boys.

They wanted to see Liverpool put to the sword last night and had every reason to expect it.

They want to see the club doing many things right instead of getting many things wrong.

Your opinion is your happy that things are pretty much as they have been for getting on for 8 years, many fans aren’t.

United have a history, a huge history of competing, do you, as things stand, see that happening any time soon? Honestly?

8.) 14 May 2021 18:22:13
I don't think anyone complained after Leicester game.
For yesterday's shambolic performance, the coach and the players are very rightly criticized.

Liverpool were missing key players in defence but we hardly put any pressure on them.
Remi, not sure if you know any history between United and Liverpool.
This is the game fans expect the team to give it their all.

9.) 14 May 2021 18:40:38
@ed14 but i caress the keys ever so gently.

If you think we are making excuses, then you think wrong!

There's being upset after a loss and then there's whatever is going on here.

10.) 15 May 2021 08:34:07
I think Ed14 makes excellent intelligent points, sees what the issue is and says it.

What we see is three years of organising, to end up losing 6 home games, capitulating to our biggest rivals, pathetically, regular bore fests. We see negative don’t lose set up, the lack of a successful consistent repeatable even mildly entertaining pattern of play.

We see the same issues and errors repeating, they are not remedied. Lack of in game management, passing out from the back getting caught in a high press we know the opposition do? No change to what we do. They score because of it, carry on. Play players when awful and their passing is below basic, carry on Fred. Play players out of position, not working, carry on.

“Then there’s whatever is going on here”. What? Some of us don’t toe the Glazers or Ole mates line, some comment on what we see on the pitch and in the dugout. Carry on is good description, maybe they should make a film.

11.) 15 May 2021 14:16:59

I wonder what this site would make of a team that included Fabio, Rafael, O'Shea (midfield) , Gibson, Smalling, Brown and Hernandez back in 2011. It beat arsenal 2-0.
A squad doesn't need all the worlds best players in each position.
I like Fred, he gives his all.

I'd say if you asked Pogba, he would tell you that he is very happy to have Fred on the pitch yesterday. Most of you just repeat what other posters say when it's not the reality. Watch the man play and appreciate how he allowed Bruno and Pogba the freedom they had.
