We all remember a previous Anfield hero
for us, Diego Forlan and his 2 goals in 2002.

He was rushed to hospital on Saturday with 3 broken ribs and a punctured lung following an accident while playing in a veterans match in Uruguay.

Seemingly there was much concern as to his wellbeing as he lay motionless on the pitch. Thankfully he is now reported to be much improved.

I wish him well, 3 broken ribs is reportedly a very painful injury to endure.

Just remembering the absolute howler made by Dudek in that 2002 game, it made my day!

21 Oct 2025 16:45:11
I'm begging, a turning point.

21 Oct 2025 18:13:43
Me too Angel. I want to see him succeed. One thing I will give Amorim is that the squad seems more unified since he shipped the trouble makers.

21 Oct 2025 13:45:14
I don't expect a low block game plan for Saturday so I'll think RA will make a few changes, think Mount will drop out for either Sesko or Zirkzee and possibly Yoro coming into the back three instead of Harry with Deligt going central.

21 Oct 2025 10:17:38
Very rarely in recent times have I been excited for the next match. It's amazing what a big win can do for your enthusiasm and looking forward to the Brighton game Saturday. There is still an part of me that is hoping it's not a false dawn but the players should be full of confidence following that result.

One of my criticisms of the team in recent seasons was their lack of resilience and although I think it was clear a few players were nervous when Liverpool equalised and then trying to see the game out, we also now have some big characters who took it upon themselves to lead by example, notably Cunha.

Despite a few eye brows being raised with his team selection, Amorim pretty much got it spot on Sunday with his selection and tactics IMO, despite it upsetting Slot. I am intrigued to see what he does now against Brighton, will he stick to the same starting 11? Or will he stick Sesko back up top? Will he start Yoro who I thought was excellent for the short period of time that he was on for.

As good as it was beating Liverpool at Anfield, I think we will learn more about this team and whether they are turning the corner in this Brighton game.

21 Oct 2025 12:31:02
Ports,

I agree. Brighton have been a bogey tram for Utd for awhile now. It will be a difficult game on Saturday.

21 Oct 2025 16:45:46
MH that form has to stop at some point and I think it's this Saturday. United for a win 3-1.

21 Oct 2025 18:09:37
Id take any win. Again I'm hopeful. The thought of 3 in a row is enough to make me dizzy ?.

22 Oct 2025 08:05:37
Brighton are a quality side. This will be a real test.

I'm Confident That Arne Slot Can Turn Liverpool FC Around

What an egoistic article. "United were poor", sure buddy! How about, United won it easy, they let Liverpool play and struggle, and when United needed to score, they did so?
Ofcourse, that is not what happened, but taking away this win from United is shameful.

21 Oct 2025 17:43:56
United have often struggled to play out from the back. Teams have studied the way they try to do it and boxed us in, often winning back possession quickly. It's driven me mad to watch us keep doing the same thing again and again with the same result. Onana was won't to give up a couple of goals a season trying to do it and so was de Gea. Playing the long ball keeps the opposition honest. In any event a study of long balls confirmed that while United hit something like 90+, Liverpool hit 85. Hardly tika-taka.

Sure Liverpool were unlucky to hit the woodwork 3 times and miss a sitter, but Bruno also grazed the woodwork, de Ligt headed just over and Mount came close. And, most important, just when everyone might have thought Liverpool would go on to win it they conceded a goal to a fantastic volleyed cross and perfect header.

Teams are not obliged to set themselves up in the way that the Liverpool manager has planned for. I think we did that at home last year somewhat naively and lost 3-0. Slot then crowed about his own managerial skills at having predicted how United would play and planned accordingly. Sorry mate. Arrogance will be the downfall of Liverpool as it was for United.

I work in Liverpool for my sins, my manager is a Liverpool fan, weirdly he’s not spoken to me so far this week despite me trying my best to engage in a conversation. I finally managed to speak to a Liverpool fan today who informed me “you’s were awful we were just worse”. Made me laugh, I don’t think any Liverpool fan will ever give us credit.

I remember a similar conversation after the 2-2 last season despite the fact we nearly won it, no credit for our performance. I absolutely love the bitterness, it’s hilarious. Comes through in the above post as well. Hey Patrick, any credit for united’s tactics, fight and performance or did we win at Anfield ‘only’ because you were poor?

Excellent journalism from the Guardian here regarding Sesko.

I Want Our Trophy Back has written an article entitled, Manchester United v Liverpool Review

20 Oct 2025 15:36:26
Looking at the season so far we're probably at least as well off as anyone would have expected with 4 of the first 8 fixtures against Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and City. We have lost 3 times. We were arguably the better team against Arsenal, and if Bruno puts the PK away against Brentford and their defender had been red carded, as he should have been, that defeat may never have happened. We got taken to the cleaners by Haaland and Doku for the loss that had no +ve lining.

Yesterday we finally got some luck. It's a vital ingredient. Liverpool hit the woodwork 3X and Gakpo missed a sitter, but we also might have scored more. People are making excuses for Liverpool's new players suggesting that they need time to settle. I won't get into that debate, but the same can be said at United. We have a brand new forward line, we have Bruno playing further back, and we have a new goalkeeper. Even Mount can be regarded as a a new player given his injuries. We are creating opportunities. After yesterday there has to be some guarded optimism. Hopefully those of us who have been drifting into or were firmly in the Amorim out/ can't win with this system camp, will be proved wrong.

There is no substitute for confidence, particularly in front of goal. I'd like to see Cunha finally score. He needs to break that duck. When that happens I think we will start to see this group begin the process of bringing United back to the top table. We're only 3 points off City in 2nd, we have a light schedule, there's no excuse for fatigue and, what's most important is that there seems to a real sense of team spirit.

Well done the manager for picking the right team and ignoring the opprobrium of many of the pre-match punters on this site!

Luck, confidence, team spirit/ togetherness and graft. We need all of those. It was a great win against a Liverpool side maybe short of some of those qualities at the moment, but it's the next game that counts. The coach's muted excitement after the game shows he gets it. We can but hope the players get it too and we're not going to follow it up - as we have been won't to do - with a lacklustre display.

20 Oct 2025 16:46:58
Id say lots of ups and downs to come for us this season.
I wouldn't predict where we will finish. Much depends on a good Jan window.
Not over reacting to any win or loss is the way this season imo.
We are making progress i think that's what everybody here wanted. Its a much more competitive league this year. A couple of wins on the spin will move you up hald a dozen places a couple of defeats on the bounce could move you down 6 places.
Its a time to support the club. Not any individual.
If united do go on a good run just watch ill bet you amorim becomes the media darling.
So many swayed by what they read and see from pundits who are often badly failed managers.
Our fans give out about players being filled there when they are more fickle themselves.
People post on here and they are more up and down than bonnie blues underware. ?.

20 Oct 2025 17:51:31
Am I missing something, I'm pretty sure we won against Chelsea and Liverpool, so that's 2 wins and 2 losses in those four games against the top four. Of which we probably deserved to win against Arsenal.

20 Oct 2025 22:00:35
At this point I think she just leaves them down.

21 Oct 2025 09:54:05
The games thought we would win we didn’t, the games we did win, we probably didn’t expect to.

21 Oct 2025 04:37:12
And lost against Brentford and Grimsby, like I say the big games take care of themselves with us, but we are dreadful in the so called little games, that further proves mentality problem or the coaching team is incapable of rousing the squad.

20 Oct 2025 12:26:36
What a result that was.

Firstly. I'm buzzing for Amorim that all his decisions delivered - I've been concerned about how things will go for him with his system and I'd, regrettably, drifted a little into the Amorim-out camp, but now I've been brought back a little. I think that, perhaps, the unpredictability and workrate of Cunha up top has, with Mount on the left, added a new dimension to the movement of parts.

Secondly. Fernandes has taken flak for how he performs in a deeper role - I'm not a fan of it per se, but when he can provide a truly world-class contribution like that he can shut me up all over again.

Thirdly. In terms of players criticised, the enigma that is Maguire delivers a timely reminder of his power and purpose.

Lastly. I'm loving the Liverpool meltdown now. Some of them have, rightly, been belly laughing at us for so long, but now what? Isak and Wirtz looking lost, Frimpong looking average, MacAllister and Gravenberch looking ponderous, Slot maybe now realising how good Luiz and Elliott actually were for them, rumours of discontent behind the scenes - oh, how my belly rocks.

More of the same please.

20 Oct 2025 13:24:47
Sorry, Mount up top with Cunha on the left - doh!

20 Oct 2025 15:15:45
I’m not sure why they’ve been laughing at us. They haven’t beaten us at Anfield in over two and a half years.

21 Oct 2025 07:18:44
Redseven they have been laughing at us we finished 16th last season.

21 Oct 2025 09:27:22
Dio. I was joking, although looking at the results between us over the past few years, Liverpool have very little to brag about. Sure, there have been a couple of good thumpings here and there, but they’ve only won five of our last twelve meetings, with us winning four of the other seven.

Obviously, there can be no disputing who’s been the more successful team over that period when it comes to silverware, but they’ve hardly dominated us, like we’ve done to them on multiple occasions over the past few years. We won eight out of ten meetings between 2012 and 2016 and nine out of twelve between 2003 and 2008. That’s what dominance looks like, and the former came during our “banter” era.
