According to reports this morning carrick has Sunday at home to Bournemouth to save his job. My question would be why? We've seen enough evidence now to suggest it's not working, players calling him out, tactics non existent, nothing defensively or in attack yet if we win Sunday all is ok again. This just smacks of the amateur way we are run, we could win Sunday against a team who plays tonight and is near the bottom of the league like us, but what will that tell us?? We've got Chelsea, Roma and villa all up next and all games we will lose on current form so 1 win in 13/14 is enough for our owners.
Any proper run club would have him and Wilcox gone but yet we will stumble on, reports of possible January signings now surfacing to try and quell the masses. It's all bs and if someone doesn't get a grip soon then next seasons Manchester derby could be in the championship!
22 Oct 2026 10:45:03
The "build on Leeds" comment was unbelievable to me. We have been so bad that the Leeds game is seen as something to build on. It was a horrible game that was slightly less horrible than previous games. Where is the ambition?
22 Oct 2026 10:45:25
Tim_99 - of course he's going to win on Sunday and paper over the cracks so he lives to fight another game. If they (the board) are going to do something then react and get it done now and stop wasting more time before the season is a complete write off!
22 Oct 2026 11:07:17
Wouldn't be so sure. Bournemouth has a good record against us lately.
22 Oct 2026 12:34:34
The only reason to remove him immediately is if we have the right man ready to step straight in.
We don't want to have another interim manager, every time we have it has ultimately ended badly for us. We should be learning from that mistake.
With it unlikely that we could have someone permanently in place by Sunday it makes no sense removing Carrick now unless something seismic happens. However, I would expect that the club will be putting out the feelers in earnest now for a replacement. In an ideal world they would probably want to wait until the next international break to bring in a new permanent manager who can get settled while players are on international duty and get his coaching team into place.
I doubt they will have that luxury. If things keep spiralling, they will probably have to move Carrick on and maybe have an interim for a 2-3 games before the international break. I expect that will be either Steve Holland or Darren Fletcher.
22 Oct 2026 15:18:57
Young manager needs to be in control and the players working for him. They clearly are not. So the club has to decide, are they going to remove players like bruno, Martinez, rashford etc and build again with carrick and a younger squad who know he is the man in charge.
What anout carrick tells you that he is good enough to do that?
So likely we are just waiting for patience to run out, maybe one more big embarrassing loss in a game we expect to win?
Just sack the DOF and start the process.
22 Oct 2026 13:14:55
I honestly think that Carrick is still in the job because it's the third consecutive managerial disaster driven by our new best in class directors.
ETH was given a one year extension, new coaches were appointed, and he was sacked a few months into the season.
Amorim was pushed for against the wishes of the director of football, forcing him to resign. They pressured Amorim to take over halfway through the decision despite his warnings that this would make it harder for him to succeed. They bought players specific to his system, only to demand that he change his system, before sacking him at Christmas.
They brought Carrick in under the strict condition that he was an interim, and that they would take the rest of the season to identify the right manager. Ignoring the mistakes made with Ole, they decided to give Carrick the permanent job. A transfer spend lower than newly promoted teams followed, and Carrick's start to the season has been painfully embarrassing.
Any competent club would admit their mistakes, get rid and try to salvage their season. United are resisting this because they're afraid that the axe won't stop with Carrick. Ratcliffe and Berrada are protecting their little minion Wilcox.
{Ed025's Note - i tend to agree Danny..
22 Oct 2026 09:25:38
Listening to Neil Warnock on Talksport this morning, he said Dalot is so poor, that he wouldn't get into any of his teams, even those in league one.
He went on to say how awful the defence is, and how they don't have any good CBs.
22 Oct 2026 09:46:57
Nothing us fans and whole football world didn't already know.
Warnock had a win percentage as a manager of 40%, lower than all post Ferguson managers except Amorim. Don't think he has enough credibility to be throwing out comments about the club.
22 Oct 2026 10:20:36
Kurtis, much respect pal. But it's those kind of narratives that are at the heart of uniteds problems. A 'United know better' attitude.
Right now we have more in common with Sheffield Wednesday than Bayern Munich, no disrespect to Wednesday. Once proud club mismanaged to league 1.
The club from top to bottom, fans included need to acknowledge there is a lot of pain ahead, we are 10/20 years away from building the club back to the 90s stature.
Warnock or pulis is exactly those we should be taking heed from, because the club is at their level. It's hard to take, but it's true.
When Carrick is sacked, the next man might get a short lived up tick but we will face the same crucial issues.
When SAF arrived at united fans had the stomachs to persevere until it came good. That won't happen now, so chins up we have 10 more years of this I'm afraid.
22 Oct 2026 10:20:58
Warnock has managed over 1600 games as a manager and been involved in football for nearly 60 years. By my reckoning that gives him enough credibility to comment.
22 Oct 2026 10:41:29
RedGedge, all valid points and I completely agree with not wanting to project a "we know best" attitude.
My point is just that he has never managed an elite club, his overall success is average, and to be honest, I think his comment was made just for effect. Dalot is not be good enough for where United want to be, but let's be real, he absolutely would have been taken by Warnock at any of his League One or Championship clubs. It's just controversial journalism designed to dig at United and stir a reaction, which clearly worked.
Sim, tenure doesn't automatically equal elite competence. Someone can spend 60 years running a local high street franchise, but that doesn't mean they're qualified to advise a FTSE 100 board on global strategy. Experience has to be measured by the level you operated at, not just the clock time.
22 Oct 2026 12:38:05
We need to upgrade Dalot no doubt, but he is so much better than most give him credit for. For example, in the EPL this season, despite us being awful, of all the defenders in the league only Maxim De Cuyper at Brighton has more shot creating actions (and he has played a few games as an actual winger) than Dalot.
Who would have said Dalot was the second most creative full back in the EPL? Yet statistically he is.
22 Oct 2026 16:02:20
But we can all watch him with our eyes Shappy and see that he's a terrible footballer. What stat shows him showing the winger inside at the weekend. Of those chances, how many were good ones, as he has 0 assists this season. I can't remember watching him and thinking 'he's been really unlucky today' yet apparently he's created 14 chances.
23 Oct 2026 02:45:39
If only he could defend!
22 Oct 2026 07:07:02
Carrick The clueless

Yesterday Carrick said
"Whatever system you play, whatever tactics you play, if you don't run, and you don't run forward, and you don't run back, you ain't going to win." He linked the poor performance directly to insufficient effort in that area.
A couple of weeks ago he downplayed the significance of the raw numbers, saying things along the lines of:
• "You read the data in so many different ways."
• "Football is not just about running for the sake of running It is about running smartly, pressing as a unit, and managing the game when you have the ball."
• "I don't think necessarily just more running is an answer. It does not bring performance."
Carrick is clueless.
22 Oct 2026 07:58:54
Not saying I don't agree in general but I don't think those two quotes prove it, if anything they're saying the same thing.
22 Oct 2026 08:06:02
Key
Inconsistent at best.
22 Oct 2026 08:34:00
As useless as Carrick is, I don't think there's really a contradiction. Carrick's earlier comments were about people over relying on raw running statistics, whereas his more recent comments were about players not putting in the basic work required to compete. Saying "running more doesn't automatically bring performance" is not the same as saying "running doesn't matter." Both statements can easily be true at the same time.
Also, the odd "" in the post suggests this was copied from an AI summary, so I'd be cautious about treating the quotes as complete. Without the full interviews or questions, it's difficult to conclude that he's said anything inconsistent.
22 Oct 2026 09:33:32
It also helps if the players actually try.
Every one of those players should be looking in the mirror this morning. No effort, no fight and no bottle.
We had 11 cowards on that pitch last night.
21 Oct 2026 22:28:27
I was out for dinner so didn't watch. Unfortunately I've infected both my son and daughter, and they have infected their kids, with bad cases of MUSS (Man United Supporter Sickness) so I got WhatsApp updates from their homes in Switzerland and the US.
I will always follow United but watching them is too painful. There's nothing about the club at the moment that merits me wasting my time and emotional energy on them. The whole club - owners, management and players - is rotten. The Glazers have gutted us. Ineos hasn't helped, but then they don't have much leeway given the debt. Both of them are malign. It affects everything beneath them. It's like being sucked dry by a succubus; it's a relationship you need to get out of.
22 Oct 2026 09:29:41
For me, that's not how supporting a club works. Through good and bad, support your team. I get that it's hard at the moment and the owners are scum bags, but some of our fans do come across as entitled at times, I must admit.
Not particularly a dig at you, I get how you feel, just not how I view supporting the club, we are all different.
{Ed025's Note - but there is support and blind faith GDS, its not working out for whatever reason mate..
22 Oct 2026 10:33:22
Oh I agree, but that's what it's all about, 'it's the hope that kills you'.
21 Oct 2026 21:10:15
During tonight's game, reports from an accredited correspondent say that Carrick and Cunha had a "relatively robust exchange of views" during a first-half stoppage. Cunha was then substituted at half-time.
Sport Bible also covered the moment, noting fan reactions that Carrick may have "given up" on Cunha or was treating him unfairly, with some suggesting it could affect the player's future if Carrick stays.
21 Oct 2026 21:31:58
There's a lot of friction growing.
Carrick basically went tit for tat with Bruno in post match comments. Bruno criticising Carrick's strategy of sitting deep and not pressing, and Carrick saying that they pressed in the second half and conceded because players weren't running back.
I can't see him surviving much longer. Players don't speak like that unless they have zero respect for the manager. Same as at Chelsea last season. The only thing keeping Carrick in a job is that he represent the third consecutive managerial blunder by our best in class directors, and they're worried about their own jobs.
21 Oct 2026 21:34:38
Well Bruno has laid into Carrick tonight, clearly he has lost the dressing room and will be gone soon.
Hopefully Bruno goes with him, had enough of his antics now.
21 Oct 2026 22:43:26
It's all turning a bit ugly, players kicking off, I don't see Carrick lasting much longer. The in-fighting will be the thing that seals it.
21 Oct 2026 23:42:55
Watching that tonight should be the end for Carrick, absolute dross.
The formation of the last 2 games something like a 433, giving the lack of quality in defence a chance, to having 3 no. 10's with a 2 in front of a decimated defence and then wonder why we conceded 4.
22 Oct 2026 01:19:53
Sport bible is not so trustworthy but there is clearly a problem with Cunha. He even played Bruno instead of him in the wings. Either he has a problem with Matheus or (and) is afraid of dropping Bruno which is our worst player by a mile.
Ironically, he is the one who questioned his tactics after the Como defeat.
22 Oct 2026 07:29:04
Martinez grew a pair and didn't hold back, now Bruno has had his say too.
If Carrick is in charge come the weekend, I expect the players will likely give up, to get him sacked.
22 Oct 2026 08:35:42
My friend is a Wolves fan and knows some of the staff that were present with Cunha, apparently this is quite common and he is quite difficult to manage with poor discipline.
Not saying it relieves Carrick of anything, and the fact a number of players have spoken out now points to a pattern, but in isolation this wouldn't have surprised me about Cunha.
22 Oct 2026 09:09:36
I hate to sack managers. However, with what is a constant downward spiral at the club, I was actually surprised to see that Carrick hadn't been sacked at half-time. It really is that dire.
That said, it appears to be a constant feature no matter who the manager is. The players give up.
22 Oct 2026 09:40:49
Whether Bruno agrees or disagrees with Carrick it shouldn't be aired in public. It should stay within the dressing room.
I thought that was a proper sh*t house thing to do by Bruno last night after the game. All he did all game was moan, loose the ball, blame other players on the pitch. He was absolutely awful last night, this is the Man United Captain .
Like i said in my message above we had 11 cowards on that pitch last night. Just when you think it can't get any worse it does. I seriously don't know where we go from here. I don't think Pep could come in and sort this load of babies out.
21 Oct 2026 20:52:25
I wonder what odds I'll get for a Manchester Derby in the Championship next season. ?.
22 Oct 2026 09:10:20
None. Citeh will be playing in a non-league somewhere.
22 Oct 2026 10:01:21
Hopefully but I wouldn't get your hopes up Fizz.
21 Oct 2026 19:52:51
Look, I've had a few glasses and I am hacked off with the result and performance, but I have a question for those of you that go on the live chat.
Why do you put up with a Liverpool fan basically taking over the chat? Yes, benny verbal diarrhea ballet. I can accept we are poor, I can accept United fans slagging the team off, but a Liverpool fan, no, no, no.
I don't get it, people happily engaging with him whilst he slags the payers and clubs off, are you all wearing half and half scarves? Forget the club, is that how far you have all fallen? Get a grip people.
21 Oct 2026 20:09:15
You've just made his day.
21 Oct 2026 20:17:01
How do I find the live chat?
{Ed033's Note - On Man Utd matchdays there is a link at the top of the banter page.
21 Oct 2026 20:11:59
AJH
Agree I think he should be banned from live chat, it is beyond banter and in honest really annoying. I asked in one of the previous games live chat if there is a block that works in live chat.
Seriously Ed can we have a block that works in live chat.
{Ed025's Note - i will go on the live chat myself and ban him Red Man..
21 Oct 2026 20:57:56
I couldn't be bothered tonight Red Man as I knew he would be there blethering on. He's very odd.
{Ed025's Note - not any more he wont AJH..
21 Oct 2026 21:08:44
I agree, AJH. I do not mind some opposition fans coming in when they genuinely watch the game and are pleasant—Malaga Gooner, for example.
I have joined the chat the last couple of games and noticed the constant underhanded and sarcastic comments. I do not mind a bit of banter here and there, but, seriously, the constant trolling is just overbearing and prevents actual fans from being able to discuss the game.
{Ed025's Note - you are right Kurtis, its sorted now mate..
21 Oct 2026 20:57:46
Thanks Ed.
{Ed025's Note - no problem mate..
22 Oct 2026 09:14:34
Agree AJH. Initially, I hoped he would be another Malaga Gooner, but bennyballache soon became a toxic, annoying arse.
Thanks, Ed025.
{Ed025's Note - we have seen the last of him Fizz..
21 Oct 2026 20:41:11
The day i start worrying about someone teasing is the day i give up.
The day i judge how i interact with people judged on what club they support is the day i give up. Most of the time he is on the wind up but that's OK in my book.
That does nullify any sensible interaction most of the time but that's his own fault and he is not looking for sensible interaction on our live chat ?? There are idiotic views imo on this page regularly that we interact with people here slag off the club worse than he has ever done that's for sure.
22 Oct 2026 13:10:28
Yeah, but you're allowed to slag off your own club ?.
21 Oct 2026 19:49:40
Awful. Abysmal. Embarrassing. Sackable.
That's enough on that game.
I would strongly consider dropping Bruno if I was in charge. He's not playing well.
And because there is no striker and the team needs more bodies in the middle of the park it means the team is unbalanced tryjng to fit him in on the wing or false 9
Id like to see Bruno benched and start Zirkzee up top. he's looked fairly good in the sub appearances this season.
Got to be worth a try, playing the current team isn't working.
21 Oct 2026 20:02:44
He should have been sold in the summer while his star power was high and we could get a decent fee. Now he will probably be another player we lose for free at the end of his contract. As good as he has been we can't rely on him.
21 Oct 2026 23:27:09
I think Zirkzee is right up there with worst signings of the last ten years, but funnily enough I'd probably start him sunday. Something has to be changed and maybe giving someone else a go who's been waiting in the wings might provoke something.
21 Oct 2026 19:40:31
Carrick can't survive now surely.
21 Oct 2026 19:47:46
They saying he should be sacked in the morning why wait that long.
21 Oct 2026 19:49:17
You'd think not Tim.
That was a very tough watch I've not seen worse in a very long time.
4 no 10s in our starting team?
No cf
Maz played rb lb and cb in one match.
Mad stuff.
And it's not even bed time?.
21 Oct 2026 19:52:30
Thank god my heart issues are to do with low heart rate because that bs had my blood pressure and rate through the roof. Absolutely p***** off with the players, carrick, Wilcox the whole damn lot. Bloody useless the lot of them.
21 Oct 2026 19:55:20
Can't wait to hear his post match press.
21 Oct 2026 20:02:49
Historically I have been late to the game with wanting manager changes and usually speaking of patience, looking at the positives and wanting to give managers time.
However, and this is painful as I love Carrick for what he did for the club, I think it is time. In hindesight maybe it should have happened in the summer.
He did a brilliant job at the end of last season, but the team appear clueless and he does not look like someone who can get the best out of the players and this is the killer for me.
they do not look like they want to play for him.
So, next question is who do they go for and mid season limits who it can be. Might be Conte, even if for next 18 months.
21 Oct 2026 20:03:16
Will just blame the injuries.
21 Oct 2026 20:07:37
Completely agree Ken, watched some shocking performances over the past few years but not sure I've seen worse than that. Might be a bit prisoner of the moment but that was abysmal.
21 Oct 2026 20:17:57
Should have been sacked at half time.
21 Oct 2026 20:50:51
Looking at Bruno's comments after they game I'm not sure they agree with what they are being asked to do.
22 Oct 2026 00:08:38
I was at work (local football club) watching it, and if I'm honest, as soon as we went 1-0 down I just laughed and stopped paying attention to it. It's almost expected now that we will manage to stoop even lower game by game now, and I wouldn't be surprised at all if Bournemouth smash us as well.
22 Oct 2026 10:14:19
Probably not, Tim.
And don't call me Shirley.
21 Oct 2026 19:19:35
Doesn't matter who we get as a manager. We have been through several now and after sometimes an initial honey moon period the old bad habits come back
You cannot blame the board or manager all the time. The players are just failing to do the basic things. Mark tight, pass forwards and to a team mate and run your socks off if necessary. I don't see anybody taking control of the team on the pitch demanding better. Confidence shot.
21 Oct 2026 19:24:01
I'm starting to honestly think they could be in serious trouble of getting relegated this season. I can't see who in the prem they can actually beat.
21 Oct 2026 19:29:22
Don't panic fallguy after the hull game shappy assured us we were over reacting so i'm sure carrick will get us to top 4 and champs league knock out stages.
21 Oct 2026 19:34:53
Fall guy I said as much the other day and was told no chance. We are this seasons spurs. Our own arrogance as a club and fanbase could cost us. We look like a relegation contender especially under carrick, if they dither we could definitely get dragged down.
21 Oct 2026 19:40:23
Utd v City in the Championship next year??
21 Oct 2026 19:25:04
This is carricks doing. not trained them hard enough, they're fat .only silver lining, its reached the point of no return. hes toast tonight.
21 Oct 2026 19:50:29
100% I blame the manager, for sure the board have let him down on signings but this is not an elite manager. He can't even get the team fit enough to compete which is just a basic. The players look like they have no idea what they should be doing. This guy has had all pre season. He's out of his depth.
21 Oct 2026 19:53:21
U honestly believe that nick because i dont, Ineos shown before that they aren't decisive so I've no faith in them at all.
