Hi Ed, is Aurelian Tchouameni actually on United’s radar, and would it be if Pogba leaves? Journalists running with it now, hard to tell if it’s real or just their usual stories following national team games.

Believable0 0Unbelievable

{Ed002's Note - I am sure he would be considered but Monaco have made it clear to the two clubs who have discussed the player with them that they don't want to sell - but they are aware of an offer that will be made by one of these sides in January.}

15 Oct 2021 16:54:05
Thanks for the answer Ed, do you think they would be open to selling next summer? I imagine he will fetch quite a fee now as a full blooded French national player as well.

Agree0 0Disagree

{Ed002's Note - They are fearful that he will force a sale.}

15 Oct 2021 19:35:42
Ed002, would I be right in thinking Chelsea are the club who will make an offer in January?

{Ed002's Note - No.}

Ed002, Man Utd?

{Ed002's Note - No.}

16 Oct 2021 09:46:43
Assuming that Pogba is certain to leave Ed given your comments on here over the last year?

Agree0 0Disagree

{Ed002's Note - I expect Pogba to leave as a Free Agent in the summer. His agent is looking at options.}

16 Oct 2021 12:11:37
For those interested, the other club (aside from Chelsea) that's been heavily linked is Juventus. I think it is Juve that might make an offer for him in January.

Romano gave an update on United's priorities. Thought it could be of interest.

1- Pogba, player is happy but has yet to make a decision
2- Bruno, new contract currently being negotiated.
3- Lingard, discussion with player to see if a new contract agreement can be reached to avoid losing him on a free.
4- DM, Rice top of list. Team wanted to fill the position last in the summer window but Ronaldo halted those plans. Unlikely for January, but may change if new names are considered.
5- Free agents, the club will consider several possible free agents, Romano mentioned Dembele as a possibility.

Another RW to add to the list. Ate we trying to horde players these days?

Agree, makes no sense. He did mention Kessie and Brosovic in another video.

12 Oct 2021 14:00:03
If we are interested in potential free agents then there are some good options. Kessie obviously, but Zakaria, Boubacar Kamara, Fati and Pedri at Barcelona, Romagnoli, Belotti, Insigne, Cantwell, Isco, Onana, Bernardeschi, Luiz Felipe and Zagadou are all potentially available next summer on a Bosman. Although I expect several of them to agree and sign new deals before then.

As well as players like Januzaj, Mkhitaryan, and Di Maria if people feel like they slipped the net and people would want to see them brought back.

Of course we could also look at Sean Longstaff who has been a target in the past. Or James Tarkowski if we want EPL proven.

Personally any of Kessie, Zakaria or Kamara would dramatically improve our midfield options.

While Romagnoli, Zagadou or Luiz Felipe would add some top class competition in defence.

Best ignore Fati and Pedri who will almost certainly sign new deals with Barcelona.

shappy- longstaff fcs man get a doctors appointment he is garbage. I hope you're wrong pal that we don't even give him a glance.
pogba -get rid
lingard sign or get rid asap
rice - will be expensive but have doubts we could get him
dembele - company for jones in medical room.
Totally agree with shappy when you mention Kessie and selective free agents
Still maintain we need rid of a fair few as well as bringing in / sorting the coaching and managerial side.

Need to really slim down tbe squad. Ship out (an get a few for if at all possible) :

(Will then free up space to bring in youngsters)

Lingard (bring in Elanga and Shoretire)

Bailly (bring in Fish or Mengi)

Telles (bring in Jurado)

Jones (end his misery and give him chance elsewhere)

Dalot (bring in other Spanish lad, Fernandez? )

Martial (bring in Hugill or Hannibal)

Fred (bring in Garner)

Matic - great player but can’t last a match

Cavani

Bring in Amad and Pellistri too

Probably missed loads out as well but you get the gist.

Rather Pogba went: too inconsistent and more of a luxury player

Would love Rice (but very expensive), Kessie and Gravenbach but competing with Real, PSG, Chelsea, Juventys etc for these and other too names mentioned.

13 Oct 2021 09:09:23
Clam down, Tarkowski and Longstaff were mentioned with tongue clearly in cheek.

Wallace, I agree that we need to slim down the squad. We have far too many players who just aren't contributing to our side. They are blocking the pathway for the youngsters as well.

13 Oct 2021 10:26:32
Thanks Shappy, reading reports about how promising some of the youngsters are - know they’re a year or two off the first team squad but no harm in giving them some minutes when we’re comfortable and getting them to train with the first team.

Lad Ennis looks class.

Decent center half but not a great/ world class one, we are better with him than without with our current options. At the same time I think we could improve on him but we won't he is just bout good enough, Shappy unless I missed it I haven't seen anyone suggest what you claim but personally for me the manager was at fault for that lost.

Agree0 0Disagree

11 Oct 2021 12:13:09
I remember reading it in the Athletic, at the time I dismissed it. But in truth until we signed Varane Maguire was our best CB. Sure we could do better and we have in signing Varane.

But if we think about it logically of course not having your best CB in a final is going to negatively impact your chances. Maybe we wouldn't have conceded with Maguire maybe we still would have. Maybe Maguire might have made a telling difference, maybe he wouldn't.

Yet if you ask any manager what they want heading into a a final all of them will say they want their best players fit and available.

Ed002 there's a lot of talk on here about ole in and ole out. Could you tell us the position of the club on ole? Is his job safe or is it crunch time in terms of they are monitoring the situation and possibly looking for another manager? Appreciate all you do for us.

{Ed077's Note - things can always change; for better or worse}

06 Oct 2021 12:58:51
Ed077, change is the only constant in life. So obviously things will change at some point. Maybe they'll get better, maybe they'll get worse.

Yet by the sounds of it the higher ups at United will attempt to get to the end of the season if possible before making a decision.

Agree0 0Disagree

{Ed077's Note - no team goes into to a season with a view to make drastic changes midway through. But, Situations can dictate that plans can change.

06 Oct 2021 17:02:27
If Utd have a poor O other and November then there will be pressure to sack OGS. Ultimately results costs a manager has job.

Then there are the players, whom can also stop playing for the manager aswell. If he loses the dressing room he will be a goner.

Ed002 could you please explain why Manchester United would hand Mike phelan a 4 year contract extension?
If Ole was released from his role as manager would that mean phelan Carrick and mcenna would also be revealed of their roles or would other roles be offered within the club structure for them?

Agree1 0Disagree

{Ed002's Note - It is unrelated to whatever happens with OGS. Phalanx has an extensive history of coaching at all levels within the club.}

Morning Ed002, hope you’re well and still finding time to rodeo and adventure to your hearts content.

If you do get a minute though, would you mind providing any confirmation that, according to media reports, United are interested in Franck Kessie next January or Summer, and any further info if you are able to share it.

Many thanks as always.

Believable2 0Unbelievable

{Ed002's Note - Franck Kessié (CM) Efforts are being made to secure a new contract, but the issue is over the wages continues with Milan struggling. Could potentially be sold but I expect agreement to be reached eventually else there will be a lot of interest with Juventus looking to meet his demands. Interest of Mr Mourinho at Spurs and now Roma remains. Spurs also want him as an Ndombele replacement but the player remains keen to move to Chelsea to eventually replace Kante - but Chelsea turned down the offer from his agent initially although a proposal is on the table that would suit both clubs and the player. His agent has also approached Manchester United and PSG but both sides would need to move a player on in order to add Kessie - but both are interested. His agent has also spoken with Liverpool and Leicester who may be interested in agreeing a pre-contract in January but both have preferred targets.}

Rumours circulating that Henderson wants to leave on loan in January?

What to do with him?

Believable1 0Unbelievable

22 Sep 2021 12:03:42
Let him leave on loan I guess. Maybe a sale with a buy back clause in the summer.

Agree2 0Disagree

22 Sep 2021 12:45:36
I like Henderson and until the last few games I would have had him as my number one. If we could get a good fee for him, then I guess we would be silly to not move him on as we wouldn't find it easy to move on De Gea.

Kovar coming through the ranks looks like a decent option for the future as well. Seems Henderson got a set back with C.V. at the worst time, and De Gea has grasped the opportunity with both hands.

Agree3 0Disagree

22 Sep 2021 12:54:10
This time last year I thought we needed to give him a proper run as first choice. He just came back from two years of excellent work at Sheffield United. While DDG had been slowly declining over the past two seasons.

Last season saw a but of a mess with neither being really first choice. Ole seemed to stick with DDG even though his performances were getting worse. Then when DDG left mid season to go to Spain for the birth of his first child Henderson was given a run out. He did okay, well in some games but he did have a bit of a nightmare against Liverpool. Then when DDG returned there was no clear first choice and both players form suffered.

Supposedly Henderson was told over the summer he'd be first choice this year. Unfortunately an untimely injury followed by catching C.V. and suffering with that for a few weeks meant DDG started the season.

This season DDG while maybe not back to his absolute best form, is currently in the best form he has been in for 4 years. He really started to drop off after the 2016 world cup when he received huge backlash for a few mistakes for Spain.

With his current form he doesn't deserve to be dropped and that puts Henderson in a tricky spot. He can't afford to sit on the bench, he has ambitions of his own. Particularly looking at the World cup with England. He needs a loan in January or a permanent move. I think it would be a huge mistake to sell him without a reasonable buyback clause as I'm unsure how long this DDG renascence will last, and I rate Henderson highly.

I said during the summer we can't afford to have another season of indecisiveness in our goalkeeping position. Bad luck for Henderson and hard work from DDG seems to have turned the pendulum in the Spaniards favour.

Now we need to find a solution for Henderson.

Agree12 0Disagree

22 Sep 2021 13:43:26
I never heard one saying Henderson would be no 1
I never heard Henderson say it
I never heard ddg say he was no2
I often remember someone on here scolding and laughing at people who believe every bit of click bait they read.
Henderson was never told he would be no1 or he would have been reinstated to no1 when fit unless one is a complete liar and leading a squad member up the garden path.
So don't believe the click bait just to convince yourself your right.

Agree1 0Disagree

22 Sep 2021 14:29:04
I never said it wasn't click bait or anything else. In fact I said "supposedly" indicating the vicarious nature of any such reports.

Henderson himself has said previously that he wants to play, and if that isn't going to be here then he will move elsewhere. That fact that he apparently made no attempt to move this summer suggests he either lied previously or at least thought he would get at least a chance this season.

Again supposedly he is now looking for a loan move in January. Which if true suggests that he feels differently about the chances he will get this season now than he did in the summer.

Agree8 0Disagree

22 Sep 2021 15:59:59
I suppose you mean he started to drop off after 2018. Because at 17-18 season with Mourinho he was magnificent.

Agree3 0Disagree

22 Sep 2021 16:33:08
Unless OGS wants to go in a different direction I think DDG has put this debate to bed with his performance and link with the defence. He has shown a more agressive nature that was one of the advantages that Henderson had over him.
Assuming this continues over the next couple of months the club should work on getting Henderson a loan in January with a view that this leads to us selling him in the summer.
This move along with a number of other decisions on players needs to be made to bring in the final pieces that will take the team to the next level (What we do in midfield and is WanBisaka what we need at RB) .

Shappy is correct Ken, around 4 weeks ago on the M. E. N. podcast Samuel Luckhurst said "he knows" Ole told Henderson in the summer he would be starting this season as no 1.then he got sick. If the podcasts are available to download you can hear what he said.

Who knows if its true but I lean towards beleiving it.

Agree4 0Disagree

22 Sep 2021 19:53:15
Samuel lockhurst never makes things up of course how long was he with news of the world or the sun?
So is one that fickle that he will go back on his word after 5 games?
If that is the case Henderson should leave as he can't trust the manager.

Agree1 0Disagree

22 Sep 2021 21:42:54
So if it was you then Ken, and you had said to Henderson he'd be first choice then the injury and sickness happens and DDG plays the way he has you'd still stick by your original decision and drop DDG for Henderson?

Surely a place in the team is earned by form, in his current form it would be harsh to drop DDG.

23 Sep 2021 11:08:57
Spenno, I'd be more than happy with Henderson as our No.1.

That said I believe a team should be picked on merit. If Fred is our best performing midfielder then he deserves to play, if AWB is out best performing RB then he deserves to play. If Cavani is playing better than Ronaldo then Cavani deserves to start.

I'm a fan of Donny as a footballer. But last season he didn't show enough in the time he was given to deserve to start over our other options. Last night he played well and has started to ask the question about whether he should start.

Henderson's sickness was unfortunate and had he been able to start the season as first choice I don't think there could have been too many complaints. Yet he wasn't.

DDG has started well, made some great and important saves, showed more authority in goal, better distribution and this culminated in a penalty save that won us 3 points instead of just getting 1.

As such it would be harsh and unfair to drop him as it stands. If his form dips again then Henderson should be given a chance.

However, that very much depends on whether Henderson is happy to sit and wait for that chance (which may not come) or whether he wants to go to a side where he can play every week.

Agree4 0Disagree

23 Sep 2021 12:39:24
Well Shappy, according to Ole last night, "stats don't mean anything". So what should we base team selections on, haircuts?

Agree0 0Disagree

23 Sep 2021 12:59:50
Spenno, stats are only useful in the right context. Both looking at the stats and watching with your own eyes you can see DDG is playing much better this season and doesn't deserve to be dropped.

Like I said I'm a big fan of Henderson and think he has the potential to be out No.1 for the next ten years. I think his style of play is more progressive and what I would like to see from a modern keeper.

Yet DDG is the man with the shirt and until he drops a few clangers and his form drops he doesn't deserve to be thrown out of the side. If good performances are rewarded with more game time then you totally undermine yourself as a manager.

Agree5 0Disagree

23 Sep 2021 14:10:00
You undermine yourself as a manager if you tell a player he will be no1 next season like you believe and then don't stand over your word. Is ole really that fickle or brain dead?

RedWhiskey, it's funny how people feel differently about different players in similar situations.

Pogba slated for only wanting to commit to the club once they show ambition to sign the best players.

Rooney on the other hand when he went public about not wanting to sign a new deal because the club lacked ambition in their signings was lauded a hero.

In both situations it's a case of a top player just wanting more top class players around them to give them a serious chance at winning titles.

13 Sep 2021 15:28:20
Red Whiskey, if Pogba wants to go he will go for a free this coming summer and he will not sign a new deal. If he signs a new deal I would say that shows he wants to stay and thinks the team is going somewhere. Personally I think he is a great player, but hasn't done it enough for us. He is playing well at the moment and if this is the Pogba we could see on a consistent basis, then I would love him to stay.

Seeing players of the quality of the players that came in this summer is going to make players more likely want to play at Utd.

Players want to play with top players just as they want to play under top managers. I would guess its Ronaldo and Varane that is more impactive than Ole and Phelan but maybe I am wrong.

We should keep Pogba only if we go on and sign a Ndidi. Next season I want us to go all in for ndidi even if that means we let 6-7 players go (martial, lingard, Donny and 1-2 fringe players more) . He will be overpriced but he's exactly player we need with Pogba.
Pogba is playing well and would be perfect player to find our attacking forwards.

Let Pogba go, sign Bellingham.

Agree2 0Disagree

16 Sep 2021 23:07:30
My only negative comments about Pogba is his lack of effort on the pitch. The bad body language. No tracking back or covering.

This season he has looked much better. Far happier. Even in a midfield 2 he has looked good. Okay, an occasional slip up defensively is expected, happy for him to make up for that in the attacking 3rd. But there were periods last year when he was a liability, and totally unprofessional.

If he wants to stay, and is all in, then I would sign him up and then we need to solve the DM position. He was one of my least favourite players, but he is winning me over.

Agree0 0Disagree

19 Sep 2021 11:14:22
He needs to leave. He’s wanted out for 2 years - he doesn’t fit the Premier League style of play. That much is painfully obvious and he’d be happier in Spain and Italy.

19 Sep 2021 22:31:42
Pogba is, admittedly, my favourite Utd player. He has been untouchable this season and his range of passing is the best in the league. If he stays this committed then he will easily be in the top 3 midfielders in the league.
