Well well, I was on here a few years ago saying we should buy Ousemane Dembele and not Jadon Sancho. I got the usual derision but made me both smile and be annoyed to see who won the Balon Dor.
23 Sep 2025 08:15:14
It's neither clever nor funny to gloat, Mr Red Man. :-)
23 Sep 2025 08:33:40
Red Man, in hindsight that looks an obvious call, at the time it was probably 50/ 50 considering the injuries that Dembele was dealing with. Either way well done.
Lets just hope that come the summer that phase of our past is done and the enigma that is Sancho can darken someone elses door.
23 Sep 2025 09:14:11
Whats he done to win balon’dor?
23 Sep 2025 09:21:01
It is questionable if he would be the same player for us, different league, coach, teammates. he was always a good player, no doubt.
23 Sep 2025 09:37:32
Ousmane Dembele would not have won the Ballon d'Or if he joined us Red Man. He would be a completely different player to what he is now.
23 Sep 2025 13:53:53
My son was all for Sancho. I was not. Looks like I was right. Yay me!
Maybe if Sancho had stayed where he was rather than being wrested out of Dortmund for a ridiculously excessive transfer fee and wage he would have become a better player than he now is. Being at Man Utd over the last dozen years or so has hardly improved any player's career.
23 Sep 2025 15:15:05
All he would've won with us is a fat paycheck on a long contract!
23 Sep 2025 18:57:55
Dembelle didn’t arrive at PSG the player he is now. It’s more a case that PSG have worked extremely hard to change the club’s culture, and Dembelle has responded by matching his talent with effort.
I’m glad that United didn’t sign him. Would be a shame for a player like that to wither in this club’s toxic culture, whereas Sancho fits right in.
24 Sep 2025 05:02:01
We’ll take a pat on the back Red man, I said we should have got Flick, Or Luis enqirue, was given loads of stick, said we should never have got ETH or signed Sancho, said Amad never a RWB, said our team will struggle defensively this season… but bully for you RedMan, you said we should sign Dembele that was actually what 140 million at the time and next breath you moan about over indulging on players…. LOL.
24 Sep 2025 05:16:47
Dembele had injury concerns and disciplinary issues at Barcelona when he left PSG. It's the culture there that changed him. If he had gone to United as he was back then, I reckon he would have been similar to how Sancho is now.
{Ed001's Note - also he was never going anywhere else, he had no interest in joining anyone but PSG.}
24 Sep 2025 08:45:47
He's a phenomenally gifted player, yet his injury record is awful. The reason he has been a serious Balon d'Or contender this year is because it's one of the few seasons he's been able to stay fit for most of it.
That is why Barcelona were happy to let him leave.
I'm 100% sure that if we signed him and he had the same injury record with us that he has had so far in his career then pretty much all United fans would be calling him a flop and a bad signing. You just need to look at the opinions of Mount to know that.
24 Sep 2025 11:23:47
I don't know about everyone else but with Messi and Ronaldo off the scene in terms of future winners of the Balon d'Or, I don't see there being an outright best player in Europe right now. I know those two were on a different planet, but there never felt like a third best player behind them, more like them then everyone else. Neymar liked to put himself in the same bracket but for me he never belonged in the same sentence. Closest for me until recent seasons would have been De Bruyne.
24 Sep 2025 13:13:13
AnotherUpset
At the time I suggested it Dembele price was circa £35m and Sancho £75m. I suggest you wind your neck in and get your numbers right.
24 Sep 2025 13:22:22
Shappy
Instead we signed Sancho and look how that worked out!
24 Sep 2025 13:37:54
As a new poster when did you post all this anotherupset?
24 Sep 2025 19:38:04
Ken ?
Crazy how easy it is now to spot the identity of this one troll.
24 Sep 2025 23:35:20
He makes it so obvious within 1 post every time. Will be blocked again and come back as another name. Like clockwork.
25 Sep 2025 05:24:02
Does it matter what name he uses, the facts are he is always right virtually every time… just sad you guys hate him for that, says more about you than him/ her…
BTW it’s not me…. but knock yourself out if you think it is.
25 Sep 2025 12:13:49
Ha! We're on to the denial stage. Enjoy this whilst it lasts folks, the impending full blown near fallout stage comes shortly where the posts become ever increasingly erratic and push the boundaries of.
25 Sep 2025 12:45:38
German was a dope. Glad to hear its not you.
25 Sep 2025 18:34:03
Have we ever considered that these are like different personalities for them? Like, they are all these different voices in the head united by the same persistently negative football opinions?
25 Sep 2025 19:01:35
Bit deep Danny…. Maybe he just thinks and is honest in his opinion… RA is not level required like many of the players, but he is willing to admit it others ain’t!
25 Sep 2025 21:29:11
Oh Christ the clown is talking in 3rd person. Back to the asylum.
26 Sep 2025 09:43:02
''the facts are he is always right virtually every time'' 60% of the time, it works, every time!
22 Sep 2025 18:22:07
Really good to see De Ligt get some praise. Several posters here I think really underrate him. I get why Amorim played him at RCB as he's more aggressive than Yoro but Maguire in the central position is worrying given his lack of pace. However until Licha is back I think we'll see this again. As the season goes on I expect our first choice back three will be Mazraoui, De Ligt, Martinez.
22 Sep 2025 18:35:38
Always rates him. Think he’s our best defender on his day followed by Martinez and then yoro.
22 Sep 2025 21:18:54
Delighted when we signed him, and delighted he is beginning to show what a good player he is.
23 Sep 2025 08:39:18
I really like De Ligt and think he is growing into the team a lot more and will likely see more time over the next couple of seasons with Maguire likely to leave next season.
Will be interesting to see where Amorim lands him long term whether as the centre CB or the right sided CB and in turn where Yoro lands. Expect some rotation over the next few weeks.
23 Sep 2025 12:10:58
The thing with De Ligt that has always set him apart from many of his peers is his brain.
Since he left Ajax, his capacity to grow as a player has been somewhat stymied by injury gremlins and the pressure brought by the intense spotlight and scrutiny after big fees are thrown about.
What we are now seeing is:
A. A more mature player who can handle the pressure better, and,
B. A player who has had the time and platform to assess and adapt his game to accommodate the EPL style of football.
I've questioned his pace and acceleration, but I've never doubted his IQ - he is fast becoming our defensive rock and is now among the very first names on the teamsheet.
This 'Leadership Group' thing has merit, but out on the pitch, commitment and trust present the real group that matters, and De Ligt is right up there in that one.
24 Sep 2025 08:54:17
He's been a very underrated player. I think because he's played for both Juventus and Bayern before joining us many were under the impression that he had "failed" at both other clubs. Which just isn't the case.
Juventus only sold him due to FFP and Bayern made a huge offer for him. Logically something they wouldn't have done if he had flopped at Juventus.
Bayern only sold him due to them having bought several other CB's to cover for injuries, then had too many and were looking to sell one of them. Apparently only Kim Min-Jae if the CB's was not available at the time. We made a good offer and he was prepared to move to play with his former manager.
24 Sep 2025 19:38:56
I like what you did there Eric ??.
22 Sep 2025 13:06:53
Whats going on with Amad? Decided to be selfish and go the Garnacho way, has he? He has been poor in the games he has played in so far this season.
22 Sep 2025 14:43:26
I don't think he's been selfish but maybe has lost a bit of confidence.
I didn't think he looked bad exactly in the Chelsea game, but rather he had hardly any chances to affect the game.
When he gets a regular run of games in the same position, rwb it seems, he should gain a bit of his form back.
He also always works hard so i think selfish is not a good way to describe him.
22 Sep 2025 17:52:02
What's he done?
22 Sep 2025 18:02:03
He isn't a RWB and the 10s we have are better than he is currently.
He may in time get moved on!
22 Sep 2025 18:09:18
RA appears to have same knack at upsetting players like ETH did…. still least he covers up his own shortcomings as a coach that way.
22 Sep 2025 18:49:43
I think when he's played at RWB he often now finds Mbeumo in the spaces he'd normally look to play in.
They are both smart players and I'm sure they'll figure it out, it will just take a little time.
While in the last two games he has been played as the left No.10 which isn't really his best position. Certainly not one he's played much before.
22 Sep 2025 21:20:23
Exactly what Shappy said. It’ll settle down and he’ll get used to that position. It’s either him or Dalot….
23 Sep 2025 08:42:50
Lots of players still finding their feet in either new positions or moving around. Amad is still young and probably just having a developmental phase having to understand what is expected rather than his natural game. Whether he eventually ends up as the RWB or back as a rotational 10 will be interesting as the season develops.
With Mazroui back I think he will stay in the team as he offers a good attack/ defensive balance and is intelligent to understand what Amorim wants. Liklely allows Dorgu to push higher up on the other side.
23 Sep 2025 09:15:34
Over rated and gash. Gets high praise because he can control and football. Never does anything for me. 5 years time he will be at necaxa in Brazil.
23 Sep 2025 09:17:35
Or in Brazil*.
23 Sep 2025 09:41:52
I’ve never understood the mentality that some players “can only play one position. ” With the amount of time spent training and the salaries involved, you’d expect a certain level of adaptability and willingness to learn new roles—just like in any other high-paying profession.
If I were earning £100k a week at my company, I’d be expected to know the business inside out, maybe even be the CEO. To me, saying you can only play one position is just an easy excuse for poor performances. With the resources and support available at top clubs, retraining and adapting should be part of the job.
23 Sep 2025 19:13:13
Exactly Kurtis. So maybe he just isn't good enough.
23 Sep 2025 19:55:55
He’s clearly a good footballer, works hard but often his final ball and decision making is lacking and he struggles with consistency. I’m not sure he will make it at United long term but he’s certainly not ‘gash’ and he works hard, nothing like Garnacho imo.
24 Sep 2025 03:25:44
He was great up until his injury earlier this year, that seemed to knock his momentum, but signs against Chelsea it was beginning to return.
24 Sep 2025 08:57:22
I'll just add that he was one of our best players last season (not a huge achievement I know), and his best performances came from RWB. Such as his hat trick against Southampton.
22 Sep 2025 10:51:21
Time to turn our attentions to Brentford.
They do have a great long throw weapon that will cause issues.
Early kick off next sat a win would be great. Even the slightest bit of momentum would be gratefully received.
That chap that hasn't cut his hair until we win 5 in a row will be getting excited.
22 Sep 2025 12:05:12
Next 2 games are massive to where we can expect to be this season I think.
Two wins puts bang in contention leading into the Liverpool game.
It also would take massive pressure off amorim going Into the international break about his future.
I hope we win both for the manager more so than anything.
22 Sep 2025 14:45:06
To get somewhere this season, we need to win a good run of games in the easy runs of games.
With the toughest part of the season now behind us, we can hope to build a bit of momentum to get into the top 8.
22 Sep 2025 18:11:06
Let’s be honest Maresca appears to be as poor as RA as a manager…can’t help but think Chelsea lost that game themselves rather than we won it….
22 Sep 2025 19:31:23
Anotherupset, how many accounts now? Give it a rest. Maguire to start against Brentford for the set pieces alone.
22 Sep 2025 20:55:31
I think he will start supasub.
I think his aerial presence will be vital. Brentford are finding their way free with Chelsea last min v Liverpool but have lost a couple too.
I think at home they can make things difficult. A good start for us will be vital. We have not converted on our strong starts . Its a very different game when you do that.
23 Sep 2025 13:31:15
Agree Ken, probably same back 3 of De Ligt, Maguire and Shaw. Ugarte in for Casemiro. Probably start Mazraoui at RWB, Dorgu left. Should be enough to keep Brentford out and leave the front to bag a goal or 2.
24 Sep 2025 03:29:41
Agree with Tum, we have struggled to build momentum with a series of wins and you can see the mentality of the team panic when things get tight.
If this team can start to gain confidence and belief that it can win games it might make all the difference.
22 Sep 2025 09:21:47
Rashford really can't get out of his own way can he. brilliant against Newcastle and got lots of plaudits then dropped at the weekend because he was late for a team meeting. Honestly this kids career is in danger of going down the toilet if he doesn't sort himself out. Ability without mentality is worthless and that's where Marcus falls short time and time again.
22 Sep 2025 14:34:23
He’s not a kid though is he. He’s in his peak years.
To be fair, most footballers would take playing for Barcelona in their peak years, having already amassed millions in the bank and multiple international caps.
I get what you’re saying though.
22 Sep 2025 17:52:47
Wasn't he brought on though? So i'd imagine it was okay. Had it been serious, I'm sure he just wouldn't play.
23 Sep 2025 05:55:45
He probably forgot to put his Rolex forward an hour after arriving back to Spain after the Newcastle game.
23 Sep 2025 11:29:12
Doesn’t he wear two watches? They can’t be set for the same time surely?
22 Sep 2025 07:39:02
{Ed's Note - Shappy has posted a new article entitled, Onwards And Upwards For Manchester United
21 Sep 2025 18:58:36
I've been less than convinced by RA, but I thought he had the team up for it yesterday, they were pumped and took his feedback on board.
The energy and aggression was clear from the start and continued throughout, our continuing challenge is converting the chances we create.
MDL was immense and popped up everywhere, someone put a rocket up Shaw, and Maguire was hyped. Mbuemo looks like a great buy, and it was good to see Cunha and Mount back.
The worry I guess we all have is CM, it continues to look light. In those conditions, it would have made sense to take Cas off after an early booking, but hey ho, it worked out OK.
If we can keep that passion and aggression, it augers well for the next games.
22 Sep 2025 09:25:50
I think there has clearly been a big push from the mainstream media to try and put pressure on Amorim with the aim of getting him sacked.
Our form this season so far has been massively blown out of proportion. When we played City they were BELOW us in the table yet nothing was made of that.
We have the toughest fixture list to start the season, by a long way. In our opening 5 games we have played 3 of last seasons top four teams. With a respectable record (given where we are currently) of won one, drew one, and lost one.
If games against the top four are the toughest games you should play in theory at least, and we've played 3 of those 8 games, we've already played 37.5% of the toughest games we should face this season.
We've also had to do so while dealing with injuries. Our big three summer signings, brought in to transform our attack, haven't been able to start a game together yet.
Despite all that we are actually amongst the top teams (actually top for many) when looking at key performance statistics. Despite playing with key injuries against some of the best sides.
The players look committed, they are fighting for the team and the manager in a way that we haven't seen in ove.
22 Sep 2025 11:10:05
I would argue about the aim of the mainstream media is to get Amorim sacked, however, Manchester United headlines certainly bring more attention then any other club in this country so I suspect the mainstream media “wants” Manchester United to either thrive spectacularly or collapse dramatically because it gives them a clear story line.
I think Amorim summed it up perfectly in his press conference before the Chelsea game where he said we are playing better but it's around each box we need to improve and for me, it's hard to argue this. Decision making at both ends is a bit of a problem at the moment. Versus Chelsea, Fernandes should be rolling Diallo in to make it 3-0 but tries to reverse it to Sesko which is the harder pass, 3-0 and that is game, set and match but 2-0 up is a dangerous score line, especially when you ae lacking some confidence.
Versus Fulham, Dalot tries to recieve the ball on the turn whilst it's in the air when he should just control it, set it back to the CB who could then lace it or keep better possession but he loses the ball and Fulham equalise. Against Arsenal, their corner comes from Fernandes and Yoro both trying to play out of the box from an Arsenal cross, both could have laced it but Arsenal won it back and won a corner from which they scored from.
So we could and perhaps should be sitting on 10 points and in the top 4 but we are on 7 which, on reflection, isn't horrendous, same points as City, 1 off of Chelsea and 3 off of top 4.
The next 2 games, for me are the important ones, if we beat Brentford and Sunderland I would say it is a good start for where we were last season and considering who we have played.
22 Sep 2025 18:13:53
Think RA is doing fine job on his own to get the sack he don’t need any help from anyone…. stat man back on % but in reality we never had a problem against top teams where we are useless is against lowly teams, Grimsby being perfect example….
22 Sep 2025 19:54:13
Nice to have you back German.
21 Sep 2025 18:33:12
With the disastrous season we're having (according to all media outlets, and most of the fans) you wouldn't know we are 3 points off 2nd in the league, having played arsenal, city, and chelsea.
22 Sep 2025 09:17:02
We’ve been struggling to score and beat bottom end teams and got outplayed against Grimsby. Now isn’t the time to be tooting our horn. It was a good 3 points at the weekend. Under different circumstances (them not playing midweek) we might’ve struggled.
Results are all that matters and now we need to start getting them.
22 Sep 2025 11:11:58
Only 5 teams have scored more than us this season in the league so its a common enough issue at this stage.
22 Sep 2025 12:57:06
It is a common issue that we judge our team un a vacuum. Every team in the EPL is getting up to speed in the season. Even liverpool with 5 wins have looked shaky at times and have had some pretty decent slices of good luck and timing to get those 3 wins.
Players take time to start a new season. New players take time to fit into a new team and environment. No team in the history of the EPL has ever won the league in sept or oct even. Not that we are in that race of course.
21 Sep 2025 16:52:58
Just watched the U21s, away at Liverpool in the league, we went 0-1 down. Chido Obi equalised at end of first half and we got a winner late on.
Don't care at what level, always good to beat them. That's 4 games played and 4 won in the league.
Talked about Shea Lacy before now and he was playing today, he's only 18 but had a very good second half and really stood out as being technically very gifted. Certainly one for the future.

Good result.
If we can head to Anfield with 3x wins, by hook or by crook. I’d be delighted and give us a chance.
The team needs confidence.
